What a total disaster.🤦 I mean, seriously, what kind of world are these people living in? We've hit rock bottom, and then somehow found a way to dig even deeper. 🙂

All set. It looks like I won't have to wait long at all before I get to take them for a spin😁.

swiftgull12 said:Just to expand on my previous thought so nobody walks away with half the story: if you're looking at rain gear, those shoe covers are absolute game-changers. They're something like this.

👍That’s exactly what I need😁. Honestly, I am so done with having soaked feet😁. If you can guarantee they actually hold up against the water, I'm ready to pull the trigger on them right now.

Does anyone here ever bike over to the Salesforce Tower or some other big corporate high-rise downtown? I’m trying to figure out if these kinds of office garages actually have space to park a bike. And more importantly, can you feel relatively safe about it? Like, would the garage staff actually keep an eye on things?

Thanks!

They actually have dedicated bike racks there, and the whole area is covered by security cameras. As for how secure it really is... well, whenever I ride to work, I leave my bike under the cameras near a little coffee shop. Still, I usually make it a point to buy a latte from the barista just so they’ll keep a casual eye on the area for me. It’s all about those small connections, right?😉

Take a look at the Walmart over in the suburbs. I was passing by the other day, and man, they were packed😁
Personally, I think you get a ton of value for that price.

👍 Hats off to you. That’s the true 😁 spirit right there. If God wills it, I might just go out on a whim tomorrow myself. It’s not like the snow is piling up too high, and besides, the roads are actually pretty clear 😉

Look, I was actually out riding my bike yesterday😁. But today? It’s been an absolute disaster. Just constant stop-and-go.😁

So, I decided to bike to work today. Honestly, I didn't even make it out of my own driveway before things went sideways😳. The streets just haven't been cleared yet. Every ten yards or so, I’m getting snagged by debris or slush. I remember thinking, if I keep pushing through this, I’m either going to be late for my meeting or end up with soaking wet legs by the time I arrive😁. So, I turned back, changed into my gear, and just took the car instead😁.

wearyotter36 said:Exactly. But you don't actually have to strip off the foam layer.

You’ve got a point there. There's really no need to pull the foam part off. It’s just that, personally, I find it a bit of a hassle when I'm trying to get them off.
It’s much smoother going if I just clear away the foam first. Besides, they pop right back into place without any real effort anyway.😁

It’s actually pretty straightforward. Once you peel away that fuzzy bit, just press from the inside toward the outside right at the top where the frames meet.

It’s either you’re crawling along at two miles an hour because your sweat glands decided to take a permanent vacation, or you’re soaked through like a drowned rat after just three minutes and then you're stuck wondering how to fix it.

And honestly, why on earth would anyone choose cotton?

That’s just my commuting gear for when I head into the office. I tend to pedal a bit more leisurely (not quite two miles per hour, mind you😉) just to find that sweet spot where I don't start sweating buckets but I also don't freeze. When I actually have free time, I switch over to my proper cycling kit☕.

Donna Parker14 said:Can those of you who are out driving around between 6:00 and 7:00 AM give me a rundown of what you’re wearing? I'm trying to decide whether to send my husband off to work on his bike or not. It feels like the temperature here is always a degree or two lower than it is in New York City.

Let's start from the top😁. A hat, sunglasses—that's the basics. As for clothing, I usually layer up with a cotton short-sleeve tee, followed by a long-sleeve one, then a sweater, and most importantly, a puffer vest. On my legs, I wear long pants with sweatpants pulled over them for extra warmth. And, of course, gloves are a must. When I'm geared up like that, even if it's about five degrees below zero outside, I don't feel the chill at all.🙂.

Yeah, sure, there's plenty of commercial fluff out there, but hey, life's too short to be a snob about it...

"It's Not My Time" is a great track—really well done.

Am I too old to get serious about cycling? in Cycling ·

I’m 26 and I’ve really been getting into road cycling lately. Don't get me wrong, I’m not planning on riding in the Tour de France or anything crazy like that, but I’d love to dive deeper into how the sport actually works. My goal is to find a local club where I can train whenever my schedule allows, and maybe eventually chip away at some local amateur races. I'm looking at this purely recreationally—definitely not trying to make a living off of pedaling. That said, I could use a little guidance on a few things:

1.) Am I too old to start?

2.) Do clubs even take people like me on?

3.) Which club would you recommend since I'm based in Chicago?

4.) How much cash am I looking at for decent gear and a proper bike meant for training?

Thanks in advance! 👍

Are you too old? Honestly, that’s entirely up to you. Even Lance Armstrong is still out there competing in the Tour de France at 39, so age is really just a number if you have the drive.🙏
