I remember back in my early twenties, I used to obsess over every single scrap of gossip, checking my phone every ten minutes during work. Now, I try to stay more chill about it, but it’s hard when the speculation starts feeling so heavy. It feels like the "glue" of the squad is constantly being tested by clubs from different leagues or even different countries just looking for a quick fix.

I was thinking about this the other day while watching some old competition footage, and it got me wondering about the psychology of the "off-season" in high-stakes environments. We are all obsessed with the pinnacle moments—the championship finals, the gold medal ceremonies, the massive stadium crowds where everyone is screaming in unison. It’s the peak of the mountain. But what about the climb? What about the months, or even years, where the stakes feel almost non-existent to the general public?

There is this strange phenomenon where we, as spectators, tend to treat certain periods of time as mere "filler." We treat them like a loading screen for the actual content. If a major event isn't happening, the interest just... evaporates. We stop checking the stats, we stop following the narratives, and we stop caring about the incremental progress being made. But for the people actually doing the work—the ones grinding away in empty stadiums or training in near-silence—that "filler" period is actually the most critical part of their existence.

I remember back in my college years, I used to play in these local tournaments where maybe fifty people would show up. It wasn't glamorous. There were no cameras, no big sponsors, and certainly no national recognition. Sometimes it felt like we were just playing for the sake of playing. But looking back, those quiet, unobserved moments were where I actually learned how to compete. You learn more about your own discipline when nobody is watching than you ever do when you're standing on a podium with a trophy in your hand. We want the 15-second clip of the incredible feat, but we have zero patience for the four-year buildup of sweat, failure, and repetition that made that clip possible. We want the climax without the rising action. This creates this weird disconnect where the people who are actually pushing the boundaries of human potential are often invisible to us for 95% of the time.

There’s a certain beauty in the "dress rehearsal" phase of life, isn't there? The period where you can test your limits, fail miserably, adjust your technique, and try again without the crushing weight of global expectation. It’s a laboratory for excellence. If every single performance had to be a world-class spectacle, no one would ever have the freedom to experiment or grow. You need the low-stakes environments to build the high-stakes legends.

I also think about how this applies to everything else—business, art, even personal hobbies. If you only practice when you have an audience, you're never actually practicing; you're just performing. Real growth happens in the shadows. The "off-years" aren't gaps in the timeline; they are the foundation of the timeline.

By the last half hour, I was struggling to even focus on the screen, mostly because I'd grabbed this huge soda and, well, after sitting in a theater for three hours straight, I'd basically finished the whole thing...😵

It's mostly just pure shock, honestly... She knows exactly what the games do to people and she's staring down the barrel of what's coming her way over the next few days and weeks.

That's really the core of her struggle right now—she's trying to figure out how to save her own skin while potentially having to kill the guy who basically gave her a second chance at life in the first place.
He was there for her when she was at her absolute lowest, and ever since then, she’s been carrying this heavy weight of feeling indebted to him, especially since she never got to say thanks or really pay him back for everything he did.

When they call his name, it hits her that she’s subconsciously been looking out for him her whole life ever since that moment with the bread... checking to see if he's okay, where he is... and now, realizing they're on opposite sides and she might actually have to take him out just to survive.

She stays away from him on the train because she can't bring herself to see him as a friend or as her savior, and deep down, she's probably just hoping he's forgotten all about that day and the debt she owes him.

Look, as a massive book nerd, I gotta say—after being absolutely floored by how they handled the last movie (Flame is hands down my favorite in the trilogy too), I walked out of the theater feeling kind of meh.

The biggest issue right out of the gate is how they chopped the book in half. I get it, the whole thing with Peeta is a shocker, and splitting the film works great for people who haven't read the books, but personally? It would’ve been way more impactful if the pacing was just tighter—like, making the attack on District 2 (if I remember correctly) and the moment they shoot Katniss feel much punchier. Instead, we got this totally manufactured climax. In the book, they just tell her Peeta’s safe and Gale was out on a mission, but here they threw in this fake high-stakes moment that felt more like a teaser for the actual action. Also, what was the deal with Finnick uncovering the secret about the white roses and President Snow's bleeding mouth? If memory serves, they found that out from the lady in The Capitol who gives them the coats for the final assault (and if they cut that out of the next part, then seriously 👎). That scene where she sings Hanging Tree also fell flat for me. They really should have dug into the backstory of the song since that was such a standout part of the third book. Plus, the tempo she uses is the exact opposite of how I pictured it (but hey, that's just me—glad some people dug it).
Honestly, throwing Effie into the mix (which doesn't happen at all in the third book until the very end) and giving Alma Coin so much screen time is actually the one decent change they made compared to the book.

In the book, Finnick says exactly what he says in the movie, so it feels like that monologue was lifted almost word-for-word for the film 😁
Maybe that theory gets confirmed when they meet up with that woman, but in the books, Finnick is the first one to start talking about it.

I actually liked having Effie in the movie too, even though she shouldn't really be there according to the book... her commentary honestly just brightened things up for me. 😁

The main thing is I just couldn't find her on the search results... 😵

Lines and Colours is a brand-new pop rock outfit out of America.

Even though they're a fresh face on the scene, they definitely aren't rookies... the members have been grinding on stages all over the States and Europe for years now, and they've got hundreds of shows under their belts from their previous projects.

They've basically pulled all that experience together to craft their own specific take on what a modern pop rock band should sound like in this Century. Their debut single, "Beautiful Addiction," drops on November 25th, and they actually teamed up with Sean and Alex Silverman—members of that well-known American band This Century—to make it happen; plus, the mixing and mastering was handled by Colby Wedgeworth, who's a pretty big name in the US scene, having worked with heavy hitters like Taking Back Sunday and a whole bunch of indie rock bands.

As for the track itself, "Beautiful Addiction" is really diving into that timeless theme of love... you know, those intense feelings we once had and then lost, but ultimately focusing on how true love is invincible and finds its way through whatever mess life throws at it.

To be honest, I don't really know where I got this from, because my parents never fed me any fairy tales or anything like that, and I've definitely dealt my fair share of sketchy people and bad experiences in my life, so if anything, maybe that's why I choose to lead with trust instead 🤷

So, I’ve sat through a handful of those 3D flicks, and honestly? I’m voting a hard pass on the whole thing... mostly because those glasses are just such a massive pain in the neck, and after a little while, my head starts absolutely throbbing from staring through them... plus, if you actually take them off to give your eyes a break, you can't see a single thing happening on screen...
I mean, don't get me wrong, *The Critics* was actually way better than most other movies shot in that format, but even then, I've pretty much decided I'm done throwing my money away just to go through the hassle of watching something in 3D again.
