How did Bruce Lee die? in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Watch out! 👍
Stardust in Movies ·
Robert De Niro is killing it, though Michelle Pfeiffer isn't bad either—actually, she’s quite good!

Hahaha, 😁 yeah—exactly like that old Kung Fu trope where you have to climb the "Pyramid of Death" just to become a master. You know the drill: five guys with sticks on the first floor, four swordsmen on the second, twin sisters swinging razor blades on chains on the third—and then on the fourth floor, there's this armored grandmaster who knows every move in the book. Honestly, that whole setup has been child's play since *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* first showed up...

Anyway, my point was that besides *Kickboxer*, there are actually a few other solid films that capture the Muay Thai vibe well—things like *Ong-Bak* and *The Protector*.

Christian Miller68 said:So, why did I actually start training? It was pretty simple—I walked out of a theater right after watching a Bruce Lee flick, and I just decided that if some guys tried to jump me, I wanted to be able to handle them without breaking a sweat.😁

Haha! 🙂 I had a similar experience—I remember watching that old martial arts marathon on TV and suddenly felt this intense urge to start smashing things around the house just to see if I could fly (I was about five). Then my dad took me to see *Ninja: The Five Elements* at the local theater, and that’s when the obsession really kicked in. I started hunting down every book on black belts and secret ninja lore I could find. I even fashioned my own "stealth gear" out of a wool beanie—I’d pull it down over my eyes and try to sneak through the park at night like some kind of shadow operative.

You can find the rest in the official biography—"Larry Harris54: The Journey of an Unsung Hero." Hahaha. 😁

Oh, man, I’ve missed it so much. The dojo, the sensei, my training partners, the sweat, the muscle fibers... everything! I seriously can't wait to get back into it.

It really isn't surprising that martial arts and spiritual growth are so deeply intertwined—it's all about that balance between mind and body—true peace of soul! 😁
Keeping it real! in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
Look, I’m the guy who’s actually going to be a better person here! 🙂

But in the last five years? Honestly, I can count the times on one hand. You learn how to sense when a fight is brewing—and when that happens, I just don't engage. There were those few times, though—damn it—when I was backed into a corner... and I'm incredibly glad I train. The proof is pretty simple—my nose and my face are still intact, and I've still got all my teeth.

You guys are getting way too off-topic here, madredeus. :P My teacher actually plays!

What were these masters actually doing with their lives?

I’ve heard that Gichin "Shoto" Funakoshi—the karate legend—worked as an elementary school teacher, while Jigoro kana was practicing law. Then you have Doshin sol, who was apparently a foreign service officer for the US government—basically a spy. Bruce Lee was a philosophy and sociology professor as well as an actor. Prof. Adolph Lundgren taught chemistry and did some acting too. I also heard Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi is a medical doctor. What about the others?

Bad question. Probably Ninjutsu.

I’d highly recommend checking out Shorinja Kempo at the "Shaolin" martial arts club—$67/mj, Mon-Wed-Fri, right by the Lisinski concert hall. You can find all the details over at www.shaolin.hr. Hope to see you there!

Is the belt actually useful? in Martial Arts & Combat Sports ·
"A belt is just there to hold up your pants." — Lee 🙂

You all hit the nail on the head regarding the practical side of things—really well put 😁. In my view, belts serve primarily to signal a member's status, knowledge, and skill level within a club
.
As for whether the meaning of belt ranks is universal? That’s debatable—especially when you consider how a black belt in Judo compares to one in Karate... it can get a bit confusing
