Eric Newman75 said:It isn't about forum rules; it's a software limitation. To put it bluntly... (explained).

Are you certain that in your attempt at simplification, you haven't ignored some of the critical properties of this 'software limitation'?

For instance, my ESET antivirus prevents me from disabling it if I have checked the Self-Defense option. That box can only be unchecked in Microsoft
Safe Mode... ...and if someone doesn't know how to do that, they're stuck. They won't be unchecking anything.

I assume the forum @Admin isn't fully aware of such vital details. Furthermore, I am deeply convinced such protections exist—if only to maintain global peace, let alone our own local stability.

But consider this:

Should it happen that such a thing does not exist, then the solution to this 'problem' would be just a hair's breadth away from average human intelligence:

- colleague @Maria Cox64 could unlock the subforum (maybe set it to read-only if she prefers... though I doubt it);

- in the event that someone chirps on a thread they weren't cleared to post in...
...then it's a simple "Thanks and goodbye. No need to close the door behind you—we'll do it; and we'll do it literally forever!"

To repair any potential damage caused by her actions to that subforum in the meantime, it will obviously take years of sacrifice from the hardworking citizens of this forum...
Then again, offering another chance to a human being is such a phenomenon in these parts that witnessing it 'in the flesh' is something one shouldn't begrudge the cost of...
restlessdrifter12 said:But the real headache is that I'm not seeing any option to translate at all.
When I pull up a webpage, there isn't even a prompt or a suggestion to translate the text

If those instructions actually hold water, then a certain page should have been translated automatically the moment you opened it. 🤷
It’s entirely possible that what you’re dealing with actually stems from @fadedorca66.fadedorca66 He wrote it.

Looking for translation quotes. ('Translate this page.') You can get it too, if you want. Regardless of which browser you're using.
Google homepage. In American.: Google

Na Google.us Type "English" into the Google search bar. (or German, French, etc.) Search terms.
Each result will come with an option to...Translate this page.... so instead of clicking the actual result, you end up clicking that.

Example:
People usually know exactly which page they want translated.
Copy the "original" page URL or the article headline. Or just grab a short, specific sentence from the piece and paste it between quotation marks. Google.com Search... then hit the button.Google search.'.
Za Windows 10 Microsoft Edge browser : Quote : in The browser:
The user provided an incomplete prompt. Please provide the full text you wish for me to rewrite.translate toSelect your target language from the list. By default, it uses whatever language you have configured for the Microsoft Edge browser. To start the process, just click 'Translate'.translateCheck the "Always translate from [Language]" box if you want it to happen automatically every single time.

Google Translate /slightly modified/:
On the list...translate intoSelect. Language. On which one? You want to translate. The page...
...because otherwise. Target language for translation. The language settings you configured for Microsoft Edge.
To translate a page, just click 'translate'.
If you're always going to automatically translate from the source language, confirm the framework.Always translate from... [Language.]'.

So, if I'm following this correctly,
Or just change the language in the settings. Microsoft Edge The browser in...American...then click as needed.translate'...

...or perhaps... or rather...i!!!Same thing over there. Confirm the framework.Always translate from. [Language.]'.
I don't even get what's unclear about that.Always translate. s ...English? German? French? ...And even then, only if we're talking about that specific case. One.(Specifically, which language?)

I’d bet anything there was a thread most/recent date just yesterday addressing this exact question...

So, what's your take on this entire bizarre 'situation'?
Did you follow the replies in that thread of yours (assuming it was actually yours—but even if it wasn't)?

If you have a restriction on the Corona section, try browsing the skeptic subforum without logging in, then attempt to join a thread there...
It might work, it might not—but why not try if that's the deal...

...

I wrote the above strictly regarding the following case:
- the restriction was applied to the corona pdf Coronavirus during the time when the Skeptic pdf did not yet exist;
- the restriction was issued due to views that are perfectly 'legal' on the Skeptic pdf;
- violating general forum rules (communication style, etc.) was not among the reasons for the restriction .

wanderingpilot1, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

If you see that message upon logging in, you lack permission to actively participate in that specific subforum or thread—meaning your account ('registered user', for example) has nothing to find there.

You will also receive such a message if you attempt to log in to the ban corner pdf while not banned... Or, if you try to log in to an admin announcement thread with a 'standard' account... ...etc. etc.
...essentially, you get that message if you try to log in to a subforum where your account has a restriction.

I have no idea why (for what reason, why) you were sanctioned, nor do I care—you don't need to explain to 'me' specifically how 'nothing happened'.
Wait for a response. If an authorized person reaches out, fine; if not, oh well... Aside from the Coronavirus&Skeptic pdf, there are plenty of other subforums.

As for posts like 'being treated like a child', ignore them—just as administration 'ignores' them, though you should ignore them for more sensible reasons.
Specs for this laptop? in IT Support ·

What data are you actually looking for, and what's your offer? This thing is years old and isn't exactly top-tier hardware...

This Acer Aspire e might be close to certain specs on the sticker,
(trying to find a price comparison... though at this point, it's probably long gone)...

Something feels off here:
Between @Morgan Ortiz6 and his friend, there is technically quite a 'high-quality' (e.g., being able to send photos) line of communication.

A few direct questions should clear up everything our colleague is worried about. For instance, ask for a screenshot of 'This PC/Properties'... and things like that.
Morgan Ortiz6 said:A friend is offering me a laptop for a third of the usual price, but I'd rather see the actual specs first. The issue is I can't find any info on it online. He sent me a photo of the sticker, but the text at the top doesn't make sense...

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍

Look... you can't change it. Neither can I—or any of us common folk.
It’s like seeing " Out of Order " on an elevator door... or God forbid, a sign on a local diner reading " Closed ".

That's why saying "Solved. 👍"
is like two guys arguing over who gets the last sip of a beer, only for a third guy to swoop in, drain the bottle, and declare "There, problem solved!"

Everything is structured specifically to ensure any changes don't mess too much with your initial frequency.

Plus, here is what actually matters to you: this change won't mess with your other frequency.

rowdyjackal35 said:What's the issue? ...

It isn't actually an issue...

...unless you find a buyer willing to pay a premium
(meaning extra US dollars),
just because YOU(YOU) installed Windows OS (the OS mentioned below) on the laptop.

In your case, it isn't funny THAT you'll be installing Windows OS on that laptop,
it's funny that you expect such a move to increase its resale value.

Retailers charge more for a computer with a pre-installed OS, (though slightly cheaper), for different reasons.
Especially when buying an OS from a (retailer), the customer is fully protected—licensing, user limits, warranties, and so on.

Ultimately, why would anyone who just needs a laptop pay extra for an OS they might already own...
or rather, why would anyone pay you for having Windows OS installed if they're buying the laptop specifically to install Linux instead?

rowdyjackal35 said:... I kindly ask (@cosmicorca16) not to act smart or funny, as it's clearly not working. Thanks.

Sometimes, someone's perspective and expectations regarding a matter are simply comical due to their sheer naivety (their lack of realism).

Ronald Chavez2 said:I can't.

Ugh, I'm having a hard time decoding this one; could someone give me a hand?

Sure 🙂 (not an official stance, obviously)

On the 'Coronavirus' forum, posts started appearing that were unacceptable for such a serious (public health / pandemic/) section.
To allow those with 'unconventional' views to still participate, the 'Skeptics' subforum was created within the 'Coronavirus' section.

At that point, back then everyone who had been penalized due to their 'alternative' stances on the single 'Coronavirus' forum
... ...was given the chance
(specifically those penalized strictly because of 'thematic' non-conformity)
to post in that 'skeptic' section of the 'Coronavirus' forum.

My take was (!!!), that you don't qualify to post in 'Skeptics' because your penalty came from other reasons (meaning, you were flagged for the 'usual' reasons).

Larry Walker24 said:Sure, you can just write it in a PDF, you skeptic.

I don't think it works like that.

The whole "alternative facts" crowd moved over the second the 'Skeptics' subforum opened up...
...which, for the record, wasn't even intended for those types using 'alternative' logic on the main 'Coronavirus' subforum.
