Arthur Garcia59 said:Of course it isn't. It’s much like how "The Fog" isn't actually about monsters and attacks.
Those kinds of elements don't even need to be explicitly highlighted.

The past year was actually quite, quite exceptional.
You failed to mention "American Gangster" (as someone pointed out), you missed "Zodiac," you left out one of the most skillfully directed pieces from Darjeeling Inc., and there is so much more you overlooked
ranging from "Control" to "4,3,2" and various other films from Romania, and so on.
Even if you limit your scope strictly to the USA, you have bypassed at least ten solid titles.
Take "Transformers," for instance, or "Stardust"... half the people can barely even remember them.

p.s. I haven't seen "Borneo," so I can't speak to that.

edit: Ah, I see now—you actually ARE arguing that this year was good. Your opening sentence threw me off.
Never mind.

Indeed, I am.

And yes, I didn't intentionally omit the titles you brought up—well, except for "Zodiac," which simply slipped my mind... because, frankly, "American Gangster" is rubbish, "Transformers" is just mindless fluff for kids with plot holes so massive they're practically structural failures, and as for Darjeeling and those other European films, I haven't sat down to watch them, so... but that year, 2007? In my estimation, it stands as the finest year of this century.

feralnomad99 said:Charlie Wilson's War actually hit theaters in 2008—to be precise, its release date was in 2008, not 2007.

I tend to group all of those under 2007.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472062/
which is technically what it is.

Have you actually sat down and watched Mr. Brooks???

feralnomad99 said:You list all these titles and then somehow manage to omit what I consider the absolute best film of the year:
''American Gangster''

To be perfectly blunt, *American Gangster* was one of the biggest pieces of trash released last year. It was a project that neither a legendary director like Scotts nor an actor of Denzel’s caliber should have ever touched. It felt bloated, the execution was clumsy, and the narrative—regardless of its basis in true events—was fundamentally flawed. The films actually mentioned in this thread are lightyears ahead in terms of quality compared to that mess. Besides, one has to wonder: how many of the movies on this list have you actually sat down and watched?

mr. No said:In my humble opinion, this has been one of the absolute worst years for cinema... I can only pray that 2008 proves to be a bit more forgiving—if it manages to reach even half the standard set back in 2006, I’ll consider myself a very satisfied man..

One of the worst years???

If you ask me, 2007 was actually one of the standout years for film production.
There Will Be Blood
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country for Old Men
Charlie Wilson's War
War and Peace
Eastern Promises
Ratatouille
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Bourne Ultimatum

I am truly asking Bog to make this upcoming year at least half as high-quality as this one... if that happens, I will be absolutely overjoyed.

Look, redowl90, I told you exactly how this would all play out...

I truly feel for anyone who disagrees.

😂😂😂😂😂

I suppose I needed a good laugh, because... whew...

But, moving back to the matter at hand... the film is bad. It isn't quite so abysmal that I couldn't sit through it until the credits rolled, but damn, it is just plain bad.

Bringing Out the Dead, Hostel, and The Elephant Man... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA☕
Mr. Brooks in Movies ·
This Film was such a pleasant surprise... Kevin is absolutely legendary when he plays the villain... It’s honestly a shame we don't see him sink his teeth into more antagonist roles like this lately... But hey, it's never too late for a comeback 😁

An absolute must-watch... 🙏
Ratatouille (Juhu-h) in Movies ·
An absolutely stellar animation... Truly one of the finest pieces I’ve had the pleasure of watching lately.... If you haven't seen it yet, consider this your mandatory viewing instruction.
Warner Bros. in Movies ·
I caught this one recently, and honestly, it’s a fantastic film.
Viggo Mortensen delivers such a powerhouse performance, though I have to admit, Naomi Watts remains one of the most grating actresses in Hollywood for me.

redowl90 said:When someone uses terms like "heart-pounding" and "adrenaline-inducing films," I’m looking for names like John Woo and Michael Bay. Are they represented here by their work? Because if they aren't—then the whole list falls apart.

Dog Day in Afternoon and All The President's Men definitely don't fit that description. It just seems off.

😂🤣

I honestly can't believe what I'm reading here... this film is an absolute masterpiece.🙏

I’ve already sat through this one twice, and honestly... what can I even say? It’s absolute perfection... just phenomenal...

It is absolutely worth your time... and the rest of it is simply flawless... 😁

Vertigo was a snooze, 2001 is an absolute Odyssey of boredom, and honestly, anything else on that list felt tedious. Casablanca, The Third Man, I even sat through Alien 3... I suspect someone will inevitably chime in soon about No Country for Old Men, The Godfather, or There Will Be Blood... those are the only ones I'm actually waiting for.

I have just one question for everyone here:

Does it even make sense to keep debating this thread? Because, frankly... it feels a bit silly to me.

For some, Magnolia will be a masterpiece (it certainly is for me), while for others, it’ll be total nonsense.

To my mind, 12 Monkeys is boring to the point of pain and wildly overrated, yet someone else will undoubtedly call it a masterpiece.

I mean, this is the only way we can end up bickering... everyone is going to have their own unique Top 5, Top 10, or even Top 100 list of the most boring films ever made.

And that list above, the one in the very first post? It's pure nonsense, as I've already said.☕

That list above is absolute garbage... personally, looking at all those famous, highly acclaimed movies, I find 12 Monkeys and Oldboy to be incredibly tedious...

redowl90 said:Honestly, I think you’re just throwing words at the wall to see what sticks—you have no idea what you're actually saying, and there's zero substance behind it.

The thing is, you can't even defend your own argument, even though I've asked you repeatedly to provide some semblance of logic.

😂

Now, redowl90, you are truly a legend! 👍

Every single time, you manage to give me a good laugh... especially with that claim that John Rambo is the greatest film ever made!

redowl90 said:I don't follow. What on earth does any of this have to do with your specific definition of a "smart" movie?

Well, yes... that's precisely my point...

I wasn't exactly expecting you to grasp the nuance here......

As I've already stated, go get a life....☕

redowl90 said:I’m going to need you to provide an actual, concrete definition of what constitutes a "smart" movie.

Oh, dear... my apologies... I seem to have inadvertently insulted your absolute favorite film of all time... (I think I'll keep its name to myself just to spare you the embarrassment).......

Seriously, go out and get a life...☕

Caught a movie today...

So, we're looking at a thriller here. I won't spoil the plot or beat a dead horse by giving away the twists—let's just say this isn't exactly a crowd-pleaser for everyone.

Look, you can't expect universal acclaim with a piece like this; there are always going to be critics who absolutely loathe it. From what I can gather, that's exactly what's happening right now.

Honestly, the best move is to just go see it for yourself and be done with it. In terms of what's currently playing in theaters, it might actually be the smartest film out there, save for No Country for Old Men.

My rating... 10/10

Anyway, that's all for now. I'm just going to head over to the chat and check out There Will Be Blood, then I need to finish watching all five films nominated for Best Picture at the Oscar.😍
There are far too many brilliant ones to list them all, but I will single out one true genius who has always been my absolute favorite comedian...Jerry Seinfeld
