I don't trust anyone anymore... in Psychology ·
Brian Reed said:The nuances boil down to one thing: learning to filter people based on behavioral patterns. You essentially build a set of mental guardrails to protect yourself from getting too close to someone who simply isn't compatible with you. Consider this hypothetical scenario:
You're out in town and run into two different people within an hour. Both happen to be former colleagues—people you worked with for a while, weren't necessarily best friends, but you'd always say hello when you crossed paths. Here is how they both handle the encounter:

Person A: Heyyy! Long time no see! So, what's the news? Where are you working now? How's your girlfriend? Oh, you broke up? Yeah, I saw her a couple of days ago with some other guy... anyway, you're looking good—fit, you know? (Implies you've aged or lost your shape). Hey, want to grab a drink? I'd really love to catch up...

Person B: Hey man, good to see you. How have you been? Since you left, I haven't had anyone to bounce ideas off of regarding those home repairs I'm tackling. It's great bumping into you. I've had a lot going on lately—want to grab a beer?

The question is simple: which one are you grabbing a coffee with?

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with either of them 😬 ... they both seem like complete flakes 😵

It’s exhausting, really. I just wish I actually had someone in my life I could lean on.

Trusting oneself might be enough
🧐

goldengull28 said:That kind of thing only exists in fairy tales. Just trust yourself and your own gut...

So, there it is. If
you claim to trust yourself, perhaps you should examine the underlying reason for that. Maybe—and this is just a thought—you might find similar motivations lurking in others if you look closely enough... 👍
I suspect that approaching new acquaintances with a sense of maximum self-protection is vital. To be blunt, nobody can guarantee that everyone won't eventually let you down or deceive you. However, when you weigh the actual statistical probability of *everyone* doing that, it seems unlikely. Perhaps adopting a specific, cautious method of getting to know people is simply a way to mitigate the fallout and protect yourself from the inevitable sting of disappointment, wouldn't you agree?

If you spend your entire life overanalyzing everyone and maintaining a constant state of suspicion, you’ll end up living a miserable existence, devoid of friends, partners, or any meaningful connection.
The truth is, we are social creatures by nature; without community and genuine communication with others, we inevitably descend into loneliness and depression.

Therefore, it is essential to engage with those around you—whether it's family, old friends, or colleagues at work... it really doesn't matter where.
Look, let's be realistic: eventually, people will let you down. Not everyone, certainly not all, but most people will at some point. The real question isn't whether they will fail you, but rather what kind of character they possess in general.
If someone has been a true friend to you, one mistake or one instance of betrayal doesn't mean you should immediately cut them out of your life.
Instead, try sitting them down, having an honest conversation about the issue, and attempting to resolve it.

However, if you notice a pattern where someone is constantly undermining you, trying to smear your reputation, or actively plotting against you, then it is far better to distance yourself from such individuals.

Simply put, reach out to old friends or make an effort to meet new ones. Over time, you will begin to see their true colors, and only then can you decide whether or not they are worthy of your trust.

But why? 🙄 Especially this idea that one "must"...

Because if you spend all your time analyzing everyone and remaining perpetually suspicious, you're going to end up with a miserable existence, devoid of friends, partners, or any meaningful connection.

Sure... and? I suppose a vast majority of people live exactly like that. Does that mean they don't belong to "you" or "us"? ☕

We are social creatures; without society—meaning, communication with others—we inevitably fall into loneliness and depression.

So, who is this "we"? Who are these "people" who aren't social beings?

It's an interesting way to explain depression... I can see the logic regarding loneliness, perhaps, but I'm not entirely convinced an individual is solely responsible for their own depression. Not when framed by such rigid, arbitrary divisions like "us humans."🙂

Who exactly are "YOU"? 😬

Look, if you're gonna try and play philosopher,
you actually need to have some real knowledge under your belt:

Imagine if the government asked the big shots at the Federal Reserve
--the guys who basically control all the cash back then--
whether they should crucify some random nobody
or go with an honest guy like Jesus.
Well, they picked Jesus.

Sound familiar?

Not really... back then, I was practically in another galaxy entirely. Though, I suppose I am somewhat acquainted with the legend of Santa Claus.👍

It makes me feel like I'm losing my mind... honestly. We take these massacres and turn them into grand narratives about suffering and faith, essentially creating a version of hell on earth while promising that once you die, everything will be beautiful and you'll be in paradise...

... I mean... it is all so profoundly absurd that it isn't surprising people fall for it. In my view, belief itself is more of a symptom of a serious psychological disorder than anything remotely natural.🙂

- That is simply my opinion, and I suppose I have as much right to it as anyone else.☕

P.S. Even though so many people feel entitled to scribble out their own "divine" laws and invent doctrines🐔 in a way that is unserious, irresponsible, inhumane, and fundamentally unnatural.🙄

Daniel Alvarez7 said:I don't agree with that last part. Maybe this is one of those major crises that can actually be overcome. Maybe someone would try, truly attempt to end all the suffering. But then again, suffering is an inherent part of existence—an existence that also possesses beautiful phases. There are infinite ups and downs in every conceivable variation. Life is a combination of struggle, love, and art.
Forget the "struggle" if you just throw in the towel immediately.
There is always a choice. A positive one. Just don't wait too damn long to make it.
My brother dealt with a severe case of PTSD.
After he came home from the war, during one of those heated arguments, a friend of his clumsily pushed his wife; she fell and lost her life.
Following that, a psychologist organized a group therapy session and invited them all—everyone from that neighborhood.
If I recall correctly, there were six of them in the group. My brother was the only one who decided to show up, and even that was only after several outbursts.
Today, his life is thriving compared to the others. The rest of them ended up killing themselves.

I don't agree either🤷 with much of this; I find myself disagreeing with a lot.
But that doesn't change reality or the facts... My feelings and perceptions don't matter when trying to observe things or reach an objective conclusion!🙂.. though you clearly know quite a bit from your own experience... but have you noticed how incredibly difficult it is to convey any of this through any form of communication?..

Anyway, regarding "group therapy" and individual counseling, I was basically handed a script—told exactly what was expected of me and the program I had to follow. The thing is... nobody actually asks you anything. Some guy writes my discharge papers without ever having even spoken to me...

I know people kill themselves, that's a fact, but why is there such silence surrounding it? I see the nonsense and how it plays out... and the propaganda used to mask it is garbage... but look, they haven't actually solved the problem...

God, I am more than just "crazy" when it comes to these topics because I see them from multiple perspectives. I'm a "potential" suicide risk (which, given my history, I think anyone could be under certain circumstances—not to justify my own state, but as a sane, objective observation, as crazy as that sounds)😬 and also as someone who, years ago, became aware of others and understood the fates of people and their suffering—not just from war, but life itself... the agony and the torment... the assaults and the abuse... I haven't run from anything in my life. I've faced it all... and I continue to do so now, as much as I can...

You see, you can talk about this normally without accusing or judging... without shifting responsibility or using cheap, street-level psychology to label people... they are living beings. It's better to let a person be quiet... regardless of the circumstances...

You know, after everything I've been through, I think I understand much more than I did before. I understand the reactions to that understanding...😬 but facts are facts. Those who lack the courage or the confidence shouldn't meddle in these problems. Those who aren't prepared to commit to solving a problem should stay away. It's hard enough as it is. Why make it harder for those who actually have the will to fight...

What hurts most is that I've witnessed other people and how much their suffering was compounded by the judgment of those around them. People are so arrogant and self-important that they project this sense of disgust toward others, acting as if those people are "beneath them," just to make their lives even more bitter... while in reality, they are being trampled and destroyed, whether directly or indirectly...☕

I honestly can't fathom why showing basic respect is such a monumental struggle for some people. I mean, what exactly does a person stand to lose by simply treating another individual with dignity? Perhaps there isn't some grand prize waiting for you, but at the very least, you aren't losing anything by being decent. Speaking from my own rather long experience, I haven't lost a thing by being respectful. If anything... I suppose I might even say I owe part of my sanity to it. ☕

Besides .. if that pervert actually exists in any capacity, he'll be forced to listen to me scream at him for all eternity while I curse his very existence in the deepest pits of fire, as long as those flames continue to burn ..

But it isn't all bad .. I suppose I know that he loves me .. generally speaking, he has a great love for people, though perhaps, much like certain individuals in this country, he feels "obligated" to remain silent and punish .. hehe, the sinners he created himself

Honestly, his rhetoric is just terrible .. it’s such a load of nonsense that your brain might just give up and surrender .. it reminds me of modern corporate marketing .. you know, that whole "don't advertise anymore, I'll buy it, just leave me alone" feeling 😵

Anyway, since death has brushed past my face, a few people have asked me if I saw anything .. if I experienced that bright light at the end of the tunnel or any of that garbage .. and I said, sorry .. I'm sorry .. there's nothing there .. just total nothingness .. and look, I don't feel the need to lie, and I believe everyone deserves honesty 👍 regardless of how cruel it might be .. anything is better than a lie .. even death 😛

Lawrence Bailey77 I can't even begin to tell you how much I agree with what Lawrence Bailey77 was saying earlier because honestly, it’s like they finally hit the nail on the head regarding this whole situation! It’s just one of those things where you look at the facts and realize that everything we thought we knew is basically being turned upside down by these massive shifts in the industry, and if you aren't paying attention right now, you're going to get left in the dust. I’ve been sitting here thinking about this for hours, just looping through all the implications, and it really feels like we are standing on the edge of a total paradigm shift that's going to change how we approach everything moving forward. You can't just ignore the momentum building up here; it's absolutely massive and anyone telling you otherwise is clearly just out of touch with what's actually happening on the ground!
...
So, what’s actually going on with this giant rock we call Earth? Like, how does anyone even manage to live here? I mean, seriously, just think about the sheer scale of the planet—how much land are we even talking about compared to all that ocean? And how do all these billions of people actually navigate life on such a massive, spinning sphere? It’s wild when you really stop to sit with it and wonder how everyone finds their way through the chaos. 😉

When we finally start pulling all those people out of their houses and getting them back into the real world, everything is going to change so fast it'll make your head spin.
It really boils down to just one single day out of the entire four-year stretch, you know?
Honestly, life is going to be absolutely incredible out here. 🙂

Why is it that Americans always dodge the question?

I wasn't asking about some hypothetical future... I am asking how Earthlings (all of them) are living right now.

Charles Lopez3 said:Well, you sure seem to be in no rush at all, huh?
Go ahead and actually 🙂

That was merely the context of our communication... thank you. Honestly, managing three different jobs at once feels like a bit much for me. As for all that incessant whining about the lack of available work, you might want to direct those complaints toward a different inbox. I suppose I could find employment for thousands of people if the desire were actually there, but the reality is that people simply don't want to work—and that is precisely what I am trying to address, though nobody seems particularly interested in listening. It feels as though all the "intellectuals" out there are just circling the drain together. Perhaps it would be better if I spent my days consuming everyone else's waste just to improve the world by reducing the stench. Ha. Though, I haven't quite reached that level of martyrdom yet. ☕

Jeffrey Ramos4 said:I agree, I'm just trying to stay optimistic regarding the human race. There's always hope that we can fix things in this world. 🧐
Maybe a meteor hits us or aliens show up and wipe us out, but that seems unlikely since humans will probably finish themselves off first. 🤦🤣

I don't doubt that your intentions are good, nor do I question the nobility behind them, I suppose. 👍 With all due respect... facts remain facts. No amount of wishful thinking or blind optimism can alter the reality of the situation. There is a fundamental difference between maintaining a grounded stance based on an objective analysis of the data, and simply daydreaming—ignoring every rational instinct in favor of self-delusion and trying to brainwash others along with you. I guess it comes down to whether one prefers the truth or a comfortable lie. ☕

Suppose I were to present my children with a practical demonstration—to convince them, for instance, that homicide and cannibalism are merely standard human behaviors, part of how "the world works"—and then proceed to teach them the mechanics of killing others and consuming their remains. In such a scenario, would I be considered to have "provided" for my family? Would I say I have fulfilled my duty by saving my children from hunger and death? Or, perhaps more likely, would I simply be destroying the entire world around them, stripping away any possibility they might ever experience the beauty of life in favor of nothing more than the base, animalistic satisfaction of survival? ☕ ... naturally, it all comes at the expense of other living things... health... life... everything else, I suppose. 🙂

Is it better than war? I suppose that’s the question everyone eventually asks themselves when things get this heavy. It’s a grim thought, really, but one I find myself circling quite often lately. I guess it depends on how you define "better." If we're talking about pure survival, perhaps. But if we're talking about the soul of a nation... well, that's a much more complicated calculation. Maybe.

Is this actually any better than enduring yet another parade of lies and hypocrisy? I suppose it’s hard to say, but I find myself questioning if we're really moving forward or just swapping one set of pretenses for another. It feels like a bit of a wash, honestly.

It is quite unsettling, I suppose, to witness this current atmosphere—this almost celebratory glorification of destruction and systemic ruin that seems to be unfolding all around us. It’s all very much in motion, and frankly, it’s rather draining. Because of this pervasive chaos, I find myself sitting here with absolutely nothing to do, just watching it all happen. Maybe that is simply how things are meant to be now. 😉 It seems some people are just possessed by an overwhelming sense of inadequacy, yet they lack the basic cognitive capacity to realize how much damage they're causing everyone around them. It’s a peculiar sort of madness, I suppose—these individuals parade their deep-seated insecurities like they're some kind of badge of honor, boasting about their own neuroses as if it makes them interesting. Honestly, it’s exhausting to witness. They act out, creating chaos for anyone unfortunate enough to be in their orbit, all while being utterly convinced of their own importance. I guess it’s just one of those unfortunate realities of human nature we have to deal with.

I have been reflecting on this lately, and I find myself arriving at a rather grim conclusion: it seems far easier to take a life than it is to actually save one. It’s a heavy thought, I know, but there is a certain, albeit unsettling, logic to it. To destroy requires only a moment of impulse or a single, decisive act of malice, whereas preserving a life demands an immense amount of coordination, resources, and sustained effort. One is a singular event; the other is a constant, uphill struggle against entropy. I suppose that is just how the world works, though it isn't particularly comforting.

It isn’t just a matter of simplicity; I suppose it's more about the sheer allocation of effort. It seems to me that far more resources are poured into the machinery of destruction than into any meaningful attempt at preservation. One might argue that killing is, in its own grim way, much more resource-intensive than saving a life... though perhaps that's just my own cynical outlook.

It seems that killers find their protection in the very act of blaming the victims. It’s a recurring pattern, I suppose; a way to deflect accountability by shifting the moral burden onto those who have already suffered. One could argue it's a calculated tactic to muddy the waters, though perhaps it's just a fundamental flaw in how we process guilt. It’s a grim cycle, really.

It seems the victims are being systematically silenced, while everyone else gets a free pass to act like they’re untouchable. I suppose it’s just business as usual, where those who actually suffered are pushed aside, while the wrongdoers move through the world with complete impunity, looking far too comfortable in their own skin. It’s all quite predictable, really. 😈

What exactly is it that you’re looking for here? I suppose you want a world where people can just commit horrific acts—violent assaults, the slaughter of children—and then have the innocent bystanders thrown in prison for crimes they didn't even touch. It seems like that's the kind of chaos you're advocating for, if I'm reading this correctly. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but it feels like a rather grim vision of justice.

I suppose I know exactly how one destroys a human being at their very core. It is a systematic process, really. You strip away every single fundamental right they possess, then you take their ultimate sacrifice and weaponize it to fortify the very system that crushed them in the first place. It is quite calculated. You deprive them of any means of survival, any hope for a future, and essentially erase their existence. You dismantle their entire support structure—their family, their history, everything—until they are simply... gone. Erased from the ledger entirely. It’s a grim way to operate, I imagine, but it seems to be how things work.

I find myself wondering which planet I’ve actually landed on... honestly, who am I even talking to here? Who are you people, really? 🐔

Gotta make sure we don't blow a fuse here ☕

What lights exactly are we talking about? I suppose it depends on what you're actually looking at, though I suspect I might be missing some context here. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. It’s all a bit vague, isn't it? ☕ What exactly is the consequence of thought, or rather, the act of thinking itself? It is a question that seems simple on the surface, yet I suspect the answer is far more convoluted than most would care to admit. One might assume that thinking leads directly to action, but I find that often, the deeper one delves into contemplation, the more paralyzed one becomes. It is a bit like staring too long at a flickering neon sign in downtown Chicago; eventually, you lose track of the street around you and become trapped in the rhythm of the light. Perhaps the true consequence is merely a heightened sense of awareness—a weight, if you will. To think is to invite complexity into an otherwise manageable existence. I suppose there is a certain exhaustion that comes with it, a weary realization that once you have analyzed a situation, you can never truly go back to the blissful ignorance of those who simply react without pause. Maybe that is the price we pay. Or maybe I am just being overly cynical.

Lawrence Bailey77:
Jeffrey Ramos4 I suppose I should begin by noting that what was previously stated by Lawrence Bailey77 carries a certain weight, though whether that weight is substantive or merely ornamental remains to be seen. It is quite difficult to say, really. One might be inclined to agree, but then again, one must account for the inherent complexities of the situation, which seem to multiply the longer one contemplates them. Perhaps it is best to approach this with a degree of skepticism. After all, certainty is often just a polite mask for ignorance.
Perhaps we shouldn't be quite so quick to embrace such a pessimistic outlook. I suppose there is a certain merit to caution, but one might argue that dwelling exclusively on the negative isn't always the most productive way to approach things. Maybe, just maybe, a bit more optimism wouldn't hurt. 🙂🙂😬
I suppose one might wonder what exactly is being framed as negative here. I can't say for certain without more context, but I guess there is always some underlying pessimism to be found if you look hard enough. Maybe it’s just the general sense of disillusionment that seems to permeate everything these days. It’s a bit difficult to pin down, really. 😛

I suppose what people fail to grasp is that reality doesn't care about our preferences. It simply exists. The truth is, if you find yourself constantly at odds with how things actually are, it isn't because the world is failing to meet your standards; it’s because you are refusing to acknowledge the facts right in front of you. In my estimation, this refusal to accept reality—whether it be the good or the bad—is far more damaging than the actual circumstances themselves. It creates a sort of friction that serves no purpose other than to fuel further discontent. I guess we could say that being unable to face the world as it truly stands only makes everything feel much heavier than it needs to be.

There are plenty of practical, real-world examples out there. But honestly, all this fluff about sunshine and butterflies? It doesn't actually save anyone. It just serves to lull frightened children and their rather impotent parents into a false sense of security. I guess it's just a way to pass the time, though it changes nothing. ☕

I suppose... if we are going to engage in criticism, we ought to do so with some semblance of fairness. It seems only right that we apply the same scrutiny to everyone involved, rather than picking and choosing our targets. Perhaps we should aim for a bit more balance in our critiques, though I suspect that might be asking too much of people. 😈

I suppose I am still sitting here, waiting for some semblance of a solution... though at this point, it feels like we’re just moving from one rigid dogma to the next, and then perhaps to another minor little dogma after that. It’s all quite exhausting, really. ☕

What actually matters? Well, if you ask me, it’s that feeling of being accepted—or at least accepting yourself, if getting others on board proves to be a struggle.

There's also value in realizing the world is constantly shifting, and that people are what actually make the world go 'round. Change is always happening, isn't it? But it's all fleeting.

Sometimes it’s easier to just let my brain go blank while I'm out walking the dog, but in the long run, that kind of thinking starts to feel pretty fuzzy.

I suppose it isn't just people who make up the world... in a sense, a person makes the world "themselves." Their perception of reality *is* their reality. It’s quite logical when you think about it, though I really shouldn't dive into deep philosophical debates on a psychoanalysis forum.🙂

Sometimes it feels easier to just let my brain idle, but over time, that starts to feel incredibly hazy.

For me, it’s difficult either way... I don't really have the luxury of just letting my mind wander aimlessly.😵

P.S. Carl Rivera43, I have to ask—deep down in your soul, have you ever truly just let go? Just completely uninhibited and primal?
