Carol Palmer90 said:It’s quite clear that we were raised with much better manners. Looking at kids these days, they don't have even a shred of etiquette, let alone anything else. On top of that, they’ve become incredibly arrogant and disrespectful.

I recently witnessed two young girls on a subway in New York City; they were both squeezed onto a single seat—on that hard plastic part—and seemingly felt that because there were two of them, they weren't obligated to stand up for anyone.

My own experience was actually more difficult. When I was about three or four months along, the weather wasn't exactly warm, so I wore a jacket to camouflage my pregnancy. I didn't even bother asking anyone to give up their seat, because I feared people would judge me and think, "Why on earth should she get to sit?" I did mention to one lady that I would have appreciated a seat if I weren't pregnant and having such a rough day—she hadn't asked, of course, but I just felt awkward since she didn't seem to notice...

I also hold a grievance against JPMorgan Chase, as they offer no priority seating or special accommodations for pregnant women or mothers with small children...

I was at Chase with my baby once. The woman behind the counter called me over to come right up immediately.

What kind of schools are you guys even talking about???

Whatever, man... I don't see the big deal. I'll grab a sandwich and eat it outside the restaurant, or just hit up a McDonald's...
I've got cats too...

Honestly, what really gets under my skin is people touching my stomach. Random strangers and everyone else—except for my husband and kids.

I’ve eaten basically everything... especially all the deli meats... the local, homemade stuff... there is zero chance I'm passing that up...
And you can bet I'm getting my salad too...
Plus some real farm-fresh cheese and sour cream, eggs... you name it...
I haven't avoided a single thing.

It’s not actually that small, haha...
But whatever... it is what it is at this point.
I pointed out that if they're basing the grade on rod dimensions alone, it doesn't seem particularly fair to me...
She didn't even say anything back.

Update on the grading situation:
The technique was fine, but since the nest looked a bit smaller than what they were looking for, she gave me a 3.
The teacher was expecting this massive nest on the chimney, but mine ended up being way under the expected size (she even told me herself it looked small)....
Anyway, I didn't get any real explanation out of her....
Now I’m starting to think it wasn't actually a big enough deal to warrant a C....
But whatever....

Jose Diaz3 said:I was one of those students who desperately needed to pass PE. I’ve always been clumsy; things like jump rope or even just basic coordination were never my forte.

I absolutely hated art class because creativity just isn't my thing. If my kid ends up being the same way and pulls a C in that subject, I'm perfectly fine with it. It feels like art, music, and PE are mostly there just to pad everyone's GPA so they can get an A. Honestly, these "elective" subjects should probably just be graded on participation rather than forcing a B or an A.

shadowcrane91, I’ve been following your updates since the start. I'm curious to hear what the teacher actually says today regarding why she received a C. From what I gathered, you're heading to the parent-teacher conference this afternoon.🙂

I have the conference tomorrow.
And hey, maybe she actually drew a sparrow or something.
Now I'm seriously curious.
I also think grading these subjects is kind of stupid because some kids just aren't talented, and since art and music are so tied to raw talent regardless of how hard you try, it basically just drags down their overall GPA, which is such a shame.

Jason Morgan said:That’s spot on. It’s almost always the parents who turn it into a tragedy.
Though, to be fair, kids do feel the weight because they know how much their parents will react to a bad grade.

I completely understand that feeling, but for the sake of the child, it’s probably best to just hide the grade from them, tell them they'll do better next time, and leave it at that.

Don't even worry about it....
I already told her we'd try again next time.
Honestly, I'm the one who felt super awkward about this whole thing...

Alright, you guys actually managed to bring me back down to earth a bit (even if I still can't wrap my head around how someone manages to cram math and art into the same conversation)....
🙂

Look, even in art class, they give you an explanation when you get a grade. I have no clue why it wasn't mentioned here. But seriously, it just wasn't there.
My little guy got a B. And nope, still no explanation for him either. 🤔

I feel like that trio of art teachers is being way too harsh on this subject. I can't see how they justify it unless the kid is just completely lacking any shred of talent whatsoever...

Actually, maybe I was totally tripping when I called those art instructors a trio

Whatever, I’m heading to the info session tomorrow anyway since I already signed up.
Honestly, I’m not even sweating my grades; they aren't my top priority by a long shot.
But I don't know why, this C just really rubbed me the wrong way. Like, personally.
Maybe it’s because it’s Art—it feels weirdly rare to get a C in a class like that (at least it was back when I was in school), but it still stung way more than getting a C in any other subject (especially when the grade book is full of A's through F's). This one actually got under my skin. Me. I get that there are grading rubrics and all that, but for Art, they aren't presented nearly as clearly as they are for other subjects, so you almost don't expect it to happen.

Joseph Martinez4 said:We’ve got kids in our class getting Cs in Art too. One mom was just as pissed off (and honestly, I feel you), but during the parent meeting, the teacher explained exactly what they expect in subjects like Art (or Music, or PE). She laid it all out—what they actually need to do to succeed. Apparently, Frendic got a C because he wasn't cutting his shapes where he was supposed to, even though she probably told him ten different times how to do it properly.

See? In our case, she told us during the meeting that for Art, Music, and PE, the most important thing is just putting in the effort. She didn't even give us a specific grading rubric, other than saying if you try hard, you'll land a B or an A...
That's why I'm feeling more bummed out than actually angry...
I mean, even if that "bird" she drew looked absolutely nothing like a bird (even though she claims that's what it is), she should've given her a B just for trying, if not an A for some other reason.
I didn't even ask about the grade specifically; we talk about what they did in class every single day, so she just mentioned it while talking about my kid's work (even though I already knew what the grade was)....

Look, preschool is free if it’s just part of the standard kindergarten prep program at the daycare center, but if you're sticking with the same facility and they're running a separate preschool track alongside their regular childcare, then yeah, you've gotta pay for it.

I work at a daycare too (it’s private, though) so I haven't heard anything about that yet...
Honestly...
I’m actually gonna hit up a friend of mine who works for the city school district to see what's up.

Harold Cook2 said:Quick question here...
Is it actually true that if you defer school enrollment and just keep your kid in preschool for another year, the daycare becomes free so you don't have to shell out any cash?

First time I'm hearing that... I know a few parents who asked for a deferral, but they’re still paying their full tuition every single month.
I don't get the logic here—what kind of crazy loophole would even make childcare free just because they skipped a grade?

Michelle Nelson4 said:Honestly, I always get a little chuckle out of watching people act like their specific religion is somehow superior, more profound, or inherently "smarter" than everyone else's. It’s such a strange ego trip. I actually ended up being accused of hate speech once just because I pointed out that the idea of sprinkling holy water feels about as logically sound as spraying chicken blood around a Santeria altar.

And look, let’s be real—all these different faiths carry the exact same weight in my book. I don't see a single logical reason why Catholicism should be considered any more enlightened or valuable than any other belief system out there. Whether someone sees that as narrow-mindedness or just pure consistency really depends on how you look at it, but either way, I’m certainly not letting anyone force a belief system on me. Though, if I'm being honest, it feels like the Catholic one is the only one constantly being shoved down my throat in daily life... ☕

Look, everyone thinks their own religion is the most important thing in the world... if it doesn't matter to you, then just walk away from it...
Why all the mockery?
Nobody is making fun of you just because you don't believe in anything... or do you?????

By the way... those four candles on the Advent wreath actually represent specific symbols... maybe try doing a little research once in a while.

It's actually pretty simple.

Oh yeah? Then you go ahead and prove God doesn't exist...

Every single faith is built on BELIEF...
It’s pretty simple... religious studies isn't exactly a place where you look for Santa Claus... so there’s zero need for anyone to prove anything... and they're totally right about that... in our faith, he just doesn't exist... any kid sitting in a Sunday school class should already know that, because that's exactly how they ought to be raised.
