But because of groups like Catholic News Service (as you guys call yourselves), the state feels entitled to label itself "Catholic" and let those values bleed into every single sector... from major institutions down to the local level. As long as those census numbers don't change, you're going to see Catholic influence everywhere—from preschools to public schools and government offices alike.
Personally, I’m fine with it... and clearly, that 86% majority is fine with it too.
Look, Catholicism, just like any other religion, is always looking for ways to spread its reach and promote itself everywhere.
For them, having an 86% majority is the perfect green light to dominate this region and embed itself into every institution possible.
And as long as that percentage stays that high, the Church is going to keep digging its roots in deep, and they'll feel justified doing whatever it takes.
I'm telling you... it doesn't bother me. If anyone else has a problem with it, they can either go change the demographics or just shut up about the path they chose for themselves.
Everyone else can complain all they want, but I don't see the point in whining while the number of Catholics remains this massive.

Look, you can say what you want... we clearly aren't seeing eye to eye here...
It honestly cracks me up when people who only bother stepping foot in a church twice a year claim they’re die-hard Catholics with such passion.
I mean, sure, they're Catholic on paper... but there are millions of people like that all over this country.
And then, once the government decides based on those numbers that this faith is the dominant one and deserves special status in our institutions and everything else...
Suddenly everyone starts revolting—like, "Wait, how could this happen?" or "Why is this happening?"
Well, there's your answer right there.

Nobody’s even asking about the animals anymore... people just assume we're all about kids and pets now

Look, sorry, but your description sounds like what a "Catholic" looks like on paper... you know, those people who only bother showing up to church twice a year.
As far as I'm concerned, those aren't even Catholics.
You aren't actually living your faith—you're just picking and choosing when it’s convenient.
So what, you're a Catholic twice a year at a funeral or when you're a godfather, but the rest of the year you couldn't care less about the church, confession, or anything else that actually comes with being part of the faith?
At least, that's what I'm getting from your post.

Larry Walker24 said:And you think 86% of people actually live out their faith?! 🤦

I never even said that, and it’s not even the point of my post...
Where on earth did I say that?????
The bottom line is—America is just following suit based on that logic...
And as long as these so-called Catholics keep pretending they’re SUPER devout, the whole country is going to keep aligning itself with them.

In America, about 86% of people identify as Catholic... and you can see how the government and all its institutions bend to that reality.
Once those self-proclaimed Catholics stop identifying that way, I assume the state would actually have to shift its "policies."
But as long as they keep checking that box—well, I don't see anything changing.
There just aren't enough people bothered enough to speak up publicly and demand the government change its ways.
Look, personally, as a Catholic, I’m not going to sit here and lie and say that seeing religious doctrine and Catholic symbols everywhere bugs me... because it doesn't.
According to every statistic out there, we are a Catholic nation, and until those numbers start looking different...

Am I "horrified" that there's religious education in schools????
Hell no...
I still don't have an issue with it, even if my kids were the only ones showing up... honestly, my kids would go regardless of how many other students signed up.
As a Catholic myself, I'm never going to tell you that having religion classes in school bothers me...
And even if they weren't in school, I wouldn't complain either...
But am I going to sit here and claim that religious ed in the classroom is some huge problem for me? No way...
Sorry...

What bothers me is that people are too scared to just be themselves...

It kills me that people pretend to be Catholic when they clearly aren't...
And it’s because of those so-called "Catholics" that we even have this debate about religion in schools in the first place...

It's pathetic how parents raise their kids to mock other children...

It’s heartbreaking that she’s afraid to raise her kid to actually be who they are...

The religious classes aren't the problem... the problem is the people and these fake Catholics...

Around Christmas, people flock to our local parish church—it gets so crowded you can barely drive past because of all the cars parked on the street.😁 Personally, I only know three families who actually attend regularly every single Sunday.
Most other people just show up for the big holidays like Christmas and Easter.

But honestly, that’s just sad to me.....
I don't get it... what does it even mean if you're "Catholic" only on paper????
You either are, or you aren't....
It's not like—"Oh, I'm Catholic twice a year."
To me, that feels just as fake as someone going to church when they don't care at all. I hate that pretense.

I’ve noticed maybe ten families from my neighborhood and school who actually go (people I actually know)....
Yet the entire class signs up for religion class.....
Where are they??
My little girl's best friend isn't religious at all, but she still takes religion class because her mom (who I get along with great) doesn't want her to stand out from the crowd......it's not about faith for her, it's about avoiding the cruelty of other kids....
And what am I supposed to tell her now...?
No matter what I say, she's just terrified of being an outcast......
My kids are fine—they take everything in stride because we taught them to embrace diversity from day one.....but still....I know there are kids out there who will mock you regardless of the reason....

The Bible is all about interpretation... it really just comes down to how you choose to read things...
Obviously, God didn't just snap His fingers and finish the whole world in six literal days. I mean, those "six days" could easily represent millions of years of evolution and time passing...
And look, Jesus wasn't actually born every single year, yet we still celebrate His birth every December...

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with everything written in the Bible either... and I definitely don't think all Catholics are narrow-minded...
There are plenty of other faiths out there that are way more hardcore and rigid than this...

But yeah, sure—there are closed-minded people everywhere. It doesn't matter what religion they follow.
I swear, irresponsible people are honestly the absolute worst.
So they invite us over without even a heads-up that their kid has lice. Seriously?
And of course, who exactly is going to sweep them all up?
Ugh, seriously?! Now I actually have to deal with this crap too... lucky for me I’m stuck at home with nothing better to do.
And those people are supposed to be our "good friends"!!!!
I'm seriously losing my mind here...
Look, if your kid has an ear infection, you don't go inviting people over and you definitely don't go visiting anyone else... seriously. Good grief—some people really don't think things through.

James Alvarez2 said:Wait, so you're saying there’s only one shift and religion class can't be moved to the second one? 🤣

Does that mean the whole school just sits empty from 2 PM until tomorrow morning?

Whoa, where am I even claiming that???
It *can* happen, it just isn't happening right now.....
Personally, I don't have an issue with it

Look, I don't even work in a school... and personally, I'm fine with how they've laid everything out. Those gaps aren't a big deal to me at all.
You happy now?

Look, we only have one single shift for grades 1 through 8 here...
So basically, religious ed can't be scheduled in a different block, and we can't just move everyone to the first or last period... which means it ends up stuck right in the middle of the school day.
And yeah, sure, a staff member—like a teacher or a janitor—might catch them out in the halls if they're wandering around...
But it’s not like they're being supervised for the full 45 minutes.
Honestly? I'm fine with it.

Am I allowed to actually have an opinion and say this is okay to me?????

Or am I supposed to just bow down to your collective consensus and pretend it's a huge problem????

melloworca6 said:My generation worked fine that way too, but you can't compare then to now. I know how much traffic there was back then versus how many cars are on the road today—it's a massive difference. And don't even get me started on anything else.

Look, I'm all for not raising kids to be helpless, and they definitely need to be encouraged to be more independent, but that doesn't mean letting them run around school unsupervised just because there's a risk of someone tripping in a pothole due to this kind of nonsense. If it were some unsolvable problem we just had to accept, fine, but here, it just takes a little bit of common sense and effort to organize things differently.

There’s always some staff member wandering the halls anyway... at least in my kids' school, they're popping in and out every 10-15 minutes like clockwork.

I don't see why that wouldn't be fine. Are we seriously saying they strictly need constant supervision and someone to micromanage their entire 45-minute period????
Or maybe even more often if you know there's someone around who's prone to causing trouble????

In my kids' school, it’s a revolving door of janitors and cafeteria workers, and the principal spends more time in the hallways than in his actual office......

Personally, I think it's totally fine....

melloworca6 said:Sure, you can always just start over. 🤦

Besides, schools are educational institutions. They aren't babysitting services, but then again, it’s hardly reasonable to expect kids to just look after themselves, especially the little ones in elementary school.

I don't know... I was basically walking around with a key around my neck starting in first grade.
I practically raised myself while my parents were at work... which is like, over 50% of my friend group.

So, to me, this stuff is totally normal.

But honestly, not much feels "normal" these days. For example:
It seriously makes me sick when I see a 7, 8, or 9-year-old whose parents still have to tie their shoes or zip up their jackets for them.

Like, are you kidding me????

Michelle Nelson4 said:I have to wonder, isn't twinma actually a teacher by profession? Given that, her posts honestly have a certain eye-opening quality to them.🍿

Nope... I work in childcare... that's not exactly "teaching" by academic standards...
In daycare, it’s all about caretaking and supervision, whereas school is supposedly more about actual education...

I dealt with the same thing—having gaps in my school schedule where nobody was watching us...
So, to me, it feels totally normal...

For the next 11 months, my kids are going to be stuck home alone for an hour or so twice a week when they get back from school until my husband gets off work...
And honestly, I'm fine with that too...

But...
There's always that tiny chance a car might hit them if they run outside...

Sarah Hall53 said:Would you really be just as okay with it if, say, your kid decided to wander off to the corner store during a 45-minute gap in their schedule without anyone watching—and then got hit by a car in a crosswalk? Or would you suddenly go dark and start screaming about why the school let them out in the first place, acting like it was somehow your fault for sending them to class instead of letting them roam the streets alone?
It’s honestly wild how many parents sing the exact same tune when everything is going smoothly, but the second something actually goes wrong, suddenly it’s all the school's fault, they’re the ones responsible, and they should have been babysitting the kid every second...

Why on earth would I expect the school or the teachers to watch my kid like a hawk?????
I mean, they aren't at school to act as nannies, and from what I know, schools employ teachers, not daycare workers....
If someone looks out for them because they want to, cool... if not, also cool... it's not their job.....

Sending kids to the store without cash????

I don't know about you guys—I always hand my kids the money first before they even head out to the corner store or the bakery....
And yeah.... they walk across the street by themselves whenever I send them....
And yeah..... a car could totally hit them right then, too..... and yeah, I can't help but worry about my poor kids....

analogseal18 said:First off, we are talking about small children here. Furthermore, injustice is always a valid reason to stir up a bit of trouble and cause a scene, is it not? Much like how it is fundamentally wrong to separate or label children based on their religious background.

black lotus, :5, you hit the nail on the head with that one. But what can one truly expect when dealing with someone who simply refuses to understand...?

What really gets under my skin is how everyone assumes kids are totally helpless... walking to school by themselves, coming home alone, handling a gap in their schedule... I was already heading to the corner store or the bakery by myself when I was seven.

Are my kids just "weird" because they actually have that kind of independence at seven years old???

Sarah Hall53 said:Look, just imagine if the roles were flipped—and I’m talking about fifteen kids choosing elective computer science instead of just five. If that class happened during third period, and your kids were part of that group sitting out in the hallway because, for whatever reason, you didn't sign them up for the elective... would you really be totally fine with that? Would everything just be sunshine and rainbows?

Yeah... a gap in the schedule is still a gap in the schedule...
My stance is that they don't take it, and if there's no other option, they sit on a bench. Period.

I’m cool with it, so I don't see why everyone needs to lose their minds and start a massive drama over nothing.
