Blade (202*) in Movies ·
Raymond Anderson4 said:I’m with you there. I don't think he's got what it takes for Blade either. I seriously doubt he can pull off that vibe where a guy just walks into a room with zero emotion and starts tearing everything to shreds.

People had their doubts about Ledger, too. And then look how he totally blew everyone away.
quietskipper4 said:but honestly, with most of his stuff, I get this vibe that it’s all just so technically flawless and rehearsed that I have to wonder how much of the emotion is actually real versus just being part of a highly polished performance.

I’m not saying that’s inherently a bad thing, but for me, the emotion I hear in most of his tracks doesn't feel like it's coming from some deep, soul-stirring passion for the music—it feels more like a meticulously planned part of the act.

That is exactly what I’ve been chewing on, I just couldn't quite put my finger on the right words for it. His emotional delivery while singing doesn't strike me as genuine or spontaneous; it feels calculated, like it's part of a scripted routine. Compare that to Lara—she’s just as technically gifted, sure, but she feels completely raw and sincere. I "feel" every single word she sings, regardless of which language she’s using.
Look, I’m not claiming this is an objective fact, it’s strictly just my own take on it.
Since we're talking about Lara... her cover of Carus
actually hits me harder than the original. It's a perfect example of pure, unadulterated emotion. She basically made that song her own (with all due respect to Lucia).

Elizabeth Jones71 said:Look, I get that you aren't feeling his vocal tone—everyone’s got their own thing when it comes to music—but I honestly don't get this whole "zero emotion" argument. There are so many of his tracks where you can just sit there and feel the raw sadness, the pain, or even a sense of pure joy. If you're feeling brave, give this one a spin and then try telling me you don't feel a damn thing:

I mean, sure, I can hear some emotion in there, but it's just not hitting me. It’s probably just his voice—it clearly isn't my cup of tea—and the songwriting itself doesn't grab me. It’s just not my style.
It’s also pretty likely that my first real introduction to him was through that cover of the Lara song mentioned earlier. Honestly, Lara took that track to a level of vocal and emotional perfection that's hard to beat, so I guess any cover of it is bound to feel like a step down. Seems like the guy is getting blamed for something that isn't even his fault, thanks to 🙂
Elizabeth Jones71 said:Here’s a few more tracks, just so you guys can get a feel for his vocal range and the kind of stuff he puts out.

So yeah, if anyone actually feels like sitting down and listening, I’d love to hear what you all think.

I first stumbled upon him when he was doing an Adagio cover of that genius Lara Fabian track
(Dimash Kudaibergen's version), https://youtu.be/jKtNuLG5jAo (Lara herself). Honestly? The guy absolutely butchered the song.
Setting aside that terrible interpretation for a second—look, there's no denying the dude has a massive vocal range. But personally? His actual tone is super uninteresting to me, almost even grating after a while. Technically, sure, he might be singing perfectly, but he's missing the one thing that matters most to me. Emotion. At least, I'm just not feeling it. 🤷

Man, talk about turning your brain off. Honestly, I’m starting to think Michael Bay movies don't even have "real" scenes anymore. Everything is just pure spectacle.

rowdyotter12 said:Yeah... honestly, he’s bored out of his mind with them too. He even mentioned he was done filming this kind of stuff,

he’s practically itching to pivot into some quieter, heavy-hitting drama roles. But let's be real—it looks like he's stuck.

He’s been typecast so hard that's basically the only thing studios will cut him a check for.

It's just Easy Money at this point...

Acid Bath - Cassie Eats Cockroaches

I feel the wetness of her tongue
That slides across my skin
The viruses crawl over me and feel for some way in
Cassie loves to swallow
This bleeding will not stop
I left cassie hollow
Cut you with my cock
Cassie likes it in her hand
Cassie's dead inside
I came to fuck the open wound
So hold it open wide
Cassie loves to swallow
This bleeding will not stop
I left cassie hollow
Cut you with my cock

Take me into the ocean
Lay me out on her shore
Wake me when the sun burns out
And we'll run forever more
We're all gonna die tomorrow
The freaks are screaming burn it down
She can't feel the weather
I can't touch the ground
Pale and twitching,
Twisting to the cold dance
Watching the room grow old
A funeral romance
Somewhere, someone's screaming that the world's gone
Smear me with your blood
And let these dead boys play their grave songs
Suck
Slide across the warm red floor
To meet me
Lock the bathroom door before they crawl
To eat me
Cut our throat
And whisper that we're going home
Twitching to the cold dance
They suck the meat from her bones
Suck
Suck
Suck

I don't know what to tell you guys, I just can't wrap my head around it. It’s one of those things that feels like everyone else is seeing something completely different than I am. You know that feeling when you're staring at a piece of modern art in a gallery in Chelsea and you're just thinking, "Is this a joke, or am I actually missing something?" That’s exactly where my head is at right now. It feels performative, almost like people are just nodding along because they're afraid to look uncultured. I've spent enough time wandering through museums from NYC to LA to know when something feels genuine and when it feels like it was manufactured just to drive up the auction prices at Sotheby's. Honestly, it’s exhausting trying to keep up with the hype cycles. Sometimes I just want to go back to basics, you know? Just simple, raw talent without all the layers of pretension wrapped around it. It’s a bit cynical of me, I guess, but I've seen too many "groundbreaking" movements fizzle out into nothing within six months. Anyway, just venting. I probably just need more coffee and less Twitter. kaže:

I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate when things just fall apart for no reason at all. It’s like the universe wakes up every morning specifically to mess with my head. You think you’ve finally got a handle on things—maybe you’ve cleared your inbox, grabbed a decent coffee from Starbucks, and actually feel like a functional human being—and then, boom. Total chaos. It’s exhausting, honestly. I was sitting there yesterday, just trying to enjoy a quiet moment, and it felt like everything that could go wrong decided to happen all at once. It makes you want to just crawl under the covers and stay there until next Tuesday. Does anyone else feel like they're constantly swimming against a current that just won't quit? Or am I just losing my mind?

Man, this scene used to give me actual chills—like, full-on goosebumps. I am OBSESSED with this movie. Seriously, I absolutely love the original 2007 REC.

The sequel was alright, but the first one is just 🙏
pure gold.

I think I’ve lost count, but I’ve probably watched it 8 or 9 times by now. That whole concept of blending demonic possession/exorcism with zombie tropes? It's genius. The whole thing feels so raw and authentic, it actually hurts.

Mad respect to the filmmakers.
Totally agree. I mentioned this before, too. Those last 20 minutes? Absolute, unadulterated panic. It's easily one of the best examples of "found footage" horror ever made.

The Exorcist - that "Spiderwalk" scene
Blow Out - Rex's death. Even though it’s not strictly a horror flick, that one moment absolutely creeps me out. It honestly puts most horror movies to shame.
REC - that final scene where everything goes pitch black.

That's all I've got for now...

It honestly just drives me up the wall when people try to force this stuff down our throats. At the end of the day, the quality of the movie is the only thing that should matter. Why should someone get a nomination just because they check a box for gender or race if they didn't actually earn it over the other nominees? It’s just not right—it feels like blatant racism and misandry wrapped up in a neat little bow.

I am signing onto this 100%.

Honestly, there were way better movies directed by women last year. This one? It was just some mediocre, performative feminist nonsense.

Arthur Moore97 said:Wow, eleven years have passed and there hasn't been a single word about this movie on the forum. What can I say? Personally, I think the film is decent, but nothing more than that. The standout feature is undoubtedly how visceral and convincing the violence feels. It was shot on a shoestring budget with low-end production values nearly forty years ago, and that sense of realism is something that absolutely deserves credit; modern high-budget Hollywood horror movies often fail to capture even a fraction of that intensity. As for the underlying message or any supposed "deeper" meaning—well, that’s where things get pretty ridiculous. Deodato claimed he made this film to critique how the media hungers for violence. Okay, fine... but consider the plot: the guy searching for the lost expedition finds the footage and ends up fighting against the very TV network that sent the journalists there in the first place, all to prevent them from broadcasting those tapes. On those recordings, you see journalists committing atrocities against the natives. Seriously? What kind of TV network would actually air footage showing their own reporters massacring an indigenous tribe? It’s a massive logical leap that the movie really didn't need to make. In my opinion, Cannibal Ferox and The Green Inferno actually make much more sense regarding this theme, as they deal with naive, wide-eyed idealists. In fact, I feel The Green Inferno has a much stronger thematic connection to this film than Cannibal Holocaust does.

The problem is, compared to "Cannibal Holocaust," "The Green Inferno" just feels like some cheap, low-budget parody. It’s one of those movies where you finish it and immediately regret ever wasting your life watching it.
Eli Roth hasn't really made anything worth paying attention to since that first "Hostel" flick.
