Alternative History: The USA as a Socialist State in 2011 in Close to Politics ·
So, if we’re looking at what would have happened after the 90s, things would have gone south fast because losing access to those markets in the USSR and the Eastern Bloc would have absolutely gutted us. Between being totally uncompetitive on the global stage, having zero liquidity, and dealing with all that fake, artificial employment, we would’ve seen massive waves of layoffs hitting everyone like a freight train! And even the lucky souls who actually kept their jobs? They’d be scraping by on maybe $110 a month on average. All capital projects and infrastructure stuff would just grind to a dead halt. Then, once the creditors started knocking on the door to collect, wages and pensions would get slashed even further just to pay down the debt. The League of Communists of America would still be ruling with an iron fist, too, and any tiny spark of resistance would be crushed instantly—I'm talking seeing the American People's Army rolling tanks through the streets as a regular occurrence, with the government spinning it as some noble fight against "forces of chaos and disorder." Everything would be in short supply, from basic groceries to gas for your car. Imports would basically dry up or be shut down entirely, and since they'd slap insane customs duties on anything coming from abroad, people would be forced to buy nothing but local goods. We definitely wouldn't be part of the EU or NATO. Relations with capitalist nations would be ice-cold, leaving us stuck in a bloc with countries like North Korea. Getting your hands on foreign currency would be nearly impossible, and we’d be staring down hyperinflation in the thousands of percent, with people carrying around billion-dollar bills! The grip of communist ideology on society would be tighter than ever, with the police and secret services micromanaging every single aspect of life. It's actually pretty wild to think about—would there even be internet in socialist America? Maybe, but it would be under such heavy state surveillance that "verbal offenses"—you know, getting thrown in jail for something you said or wrote—would apply to your online posts too. Honestly, the one silver lining in this nightmare scenario is that we wouldn't be bombarded by all that trashy media, like celebrity scandals, Big Brother, Farm, Super Talent, or that yellow journalism focused on who got drunk or showing someone's nipple or butt in the news. Just pure media garbage.😁
A calendar without Christmas? in World ·
By the way, there’s this super interesting bit at the end of the article where the Commission spokesperson basically says they might stop mentioning religious holidays altogether in the next edition just to dodge any potential drama! Does that even make sense to anyone else?

Total nonsense, right? It feels like Europe is actually embarrassed by its own Christian roots.
Honestly, I’ve got a gut feeling this was done on purpose.

There isn't even a snowball's chance in hell, not even if you squinted really hard at it.

There you go, hope that helps you out! 🙂
Mexicans are never going to hold a majority in Canada. It’s just math at this point because we're already looking at something close to 50% Canadians, and their population is actually growing steadily. The only thing that really seems to be shifting is the number of Americans, which is honestly pretty heartbreaking to watch since those numbers drop every single year—especially over in Republika Srpska, where if things keep going the way they are, there won't be anyone left there in about ten years.
