Yeah... Brutal and Terrorizer... even Napalm Death (Harmony Corruption) back when I was really into metal 🙂

Do bands that good even exist anymore?

I was watching some news clip online yesterday... during the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers, there was this Black Muslim man caught in the chaos, just collapsed on the ground. Suddenly, this man appears—an Orthodox Jew with his traditional sidelocks and hat—and he tells him, "Give me your hand, brother, let’s get out of here!"

🙂

I suppose people might be aware of the general history between Muslims and Jews.

I agree. 🙂

I guess it’s because people interpret the origin of that specific law in different ways.
Usually, they just describe certain scenarios where it applies, along with various techniques for using it. I suppose that's where the creativity really starts to run wild.

I wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but I guess some of those comments were probably a bit unnecessary.

Look, honestly, commenting on stuff like "it makes me sick" is unnecessary. That kind of reaction usually tells you everything you need to know about where a person is at. 😉

Brian Foster3 said:Look, I haven't touched the book and honestly, I don't plan to. But let me tell you something about Abraham's teachings—it’s just Kabbalah by another name. The word itself comes from the Hebrew "le kabel," which basically means "to receive." The whole teaching is just a method designed to teach you how to receive everything that's supposed to be yours from a higher power. It's all about learning how to receive things the "right" way.

A lot of people study this. They all talk about the same principle, they just use different theories to explain it.

driftingfox15 said:Like I was saying before, the whole secret is laid out in a pretty straightforward way, and personally, I found it quite inspiring since it helped me dive headfirst into the entire law of attraction system, though I guess using Abraham's teachings allowed me to go a step deeper. After just a little while of reading, I felt like I was actually making some progress, which I know is mostly on me, but the book definitely acted as the catalyst. It does a really solid job describing meditations, which was great for me. So, I’d recommend the book, but again, I'm just giving you my own take 😉 Maybe I'll find something better tomorrow 🙂 But honestly, the most important thing is just constantly working on yourself.

Once you've grabbed the basics from books, they aren't even necessary anymore, at least not for finding some big secret or special technique. Just paying attention to your daily thought patterns... that's probably the hardest and most vital work you'll ever do. 🙂

Freud viewed it that way, and while it was certainly one of the more developed theories of its era—quite groundbreaking at the time—it’s clear by today's standards that it falls significantly short.
The idea that willpower is merely a tug-of-war between the id and the superego doesn't hold water for me. Based on my own observations of people in the real world, that theory simply doesn't align with reality.

Look, you could easily read this as: You think you're such a big shot, but maybe you should go take a little stroll over to psychology.🤣
You can't be serious about wanting to kill me. Willpower. What are your thoughts on participating in philosophy debates?🤣
What should I get myself?🙈 And what about Chicago?🙂

If you take a look at this thread, you'll see that other members have been contributing alongside you and Cervantes. Besides, forum etiquette dictates that if you aren't replying directly to someone in the middle of a conversation, you address the original post. These discussions are public across all subforums, and anyone is free to jump in whenever they like. I didn't specifically intend to follow your or Cervantes' particular line of reasoning just so I could quote one of you and track your specific flow. To be honest, I didn't even have the patience or the inclination to read through it all. So, please, spare me the patronizing—or should I say, the "guidance." 😕
I personally favor a philosophy centered on the relentless pursuit of truth—a constant effort to uncover facts and calculate the reality of any given situation. To me, that is what true philosophy is all about.
In every direction. I understand it quite well—it’s light, flexible, and completely unburdened. If you want to put it simply, it's straightforward.😉

Look at that. Just look at how much I’ve overindulged, and what it's doing to my ego.🤣🤣🤣

Exactly. That involves a conscious investment of personal resources. Essentially, you are investing energy, because everything ultimately boils down to energy—whether that’s labor, effort, or anything else.
It works like this: you have a drive, you want to satisfy it, and that's where willpower enters the equation.
But look, I have sexual drives, and I can satisfy them through either easy or difficult means, involving varying levels of energy expenditure. Why would I choose the harder path? Why would I invest more energy when the most natural thing to do is act economically and follow the path of least resistance?
I feel like there's a missing link here.
Where does the motivation come from to consciously pursue a more attractive goal at a higher energy cost? Because that is what true willpower actually looks like.🤷

Earlier you mentioned that "... it doesn't happen just because will exists."

It looks like Olivia Evans8 might be on the right track. No matter how you look at it, you can't escape the concept of will. Using the term "will-less" probably just describes a tendency toward a task, but if you're being forced, you have to direct your will toward solving the problem itself.🙂

slymaker9 said:My view is that when a person acts against their will, they lack the psychological readiness to commit their resources.

Which impulse, for example?

The mind has to find a way to make the goal happen.

Sexual drive. Like, if a stranger catches your eye. Usually, you're much more willing to put effort into talking to someone like that than to people you aren't attracted to.
Willpower in Philosophy ·
slymaker9 said:If a person acts against their will, it implies some form of external coercion or an outside threat.
Beyond that, action doesn't seem to require conscious intent; one can also act simply to satisfy an impulse without any external pressure involved.

Your definition of will seems to include all the same elements present when someone is acting against their own volition.

I think impulses actually drive the will. 🙂 Maybe I got that wrong.😁
Willpower in Philosophy ·
slymaker9 said:Willpower is essentially the psychological readiness of an individual to commit specific personal resources—namely energy, effort, and time—toward achieving a particular objective.
Something along those lines.
But if the goal is clearly defined, why does willpower fluctuate so inconsistently?
Is it a conflict between competing objectives, or simply following the path of least resistance?

But what about those moments when you do something without any will at all, or maybe even against your own will?

Will 😁

A sign that there's a need for something?

briskharbor35 said:Just a heads up, before I finally crossed paths with Christ, I’d already burned through most of the books you guys are talking about—tried all sorts of meditation stuff, transcendental meditation, you name it. But honestly? It all feels kind of hollow, like it just pulls you away from the Truth, which lives entirely within His Spirit. He’s the one in charge of everything, the ultimate wisdom and knowledge, the only thing that's truly whole. If those ancient Eastern philosophies were actually the key to saving our souls or finding eternal life, reincarnation wouldn't even be taught, right? And look, Jesus did everything specifically so we could receive the gift of eternal life. Even if reincarnation were a real thing, He took it all upon Himself on the Cross so we wouldn't have to go through the cycle of being reborn over and over. That's why God gave us His Son—so we can receive the GIFT of eternal life through Him. Because let's be real, NOBODY can achieve unity with God for eternity through good deeds or spiritual practices alone unless they are done in Jesus's name. I mean, what kind of God would He be if He just ignored His Son's sacrifice and offered other ways to reach that eternal union?

The absolute best part is that all we really need to do is repent for our mistakes and ask Jesus to come into our hearts with His Holy Spirit. Then, we just declare to the spiritual realm with our own voices that, from this moment on, we accept Him as our Savior and Lord who looks after every single part of our lives.🙏

That kind of spiritual experience often results in total freedom—spiritually, mentally, and even physically through healing. So, grab a copy of "The power of positive thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale to help fire up your faith in Jesus, then just call out to Him. You'll experience something so personal you won't even be able to put it into words, but I promise, the story will be incredibly joyful and full of freedom.👍

Man, I believe in Buddha and Jesus!
What happens to me then? 😢 🙂

"....if the Vedas were...." You don't have a clue who Jesus is. Because if you did, you wouldn't be spitting on the Vedas! 👎

I sincerely hope that one day you start actually feeling things instead of just stubbornly rattling off definitions you were taught.

Oh God!
The limits of your arrogance are as endless as the human imagination...

Do you think I'm lying or just stalling? No emojis from me—I’ve had some weird experiences with them. Especially when they feel "toxic" or fake. They just clutter up this whole forum and end up confusing me personally. You get what I mean? My honest take... look, I wish I were playing games. I can explain more if you want, fine. Just don't take it the wrong way.🙂 (😂Can't get the link to work. I'll just pull it out sentence by sentence instead. Cool?

Wait, wait... now I’m starting to sound like that self-proclaimed spiritual guru. You know the one—the guy who was constantly baffled by everything, including his own "glitchy speech" and his whole satanic-demon vibe, minus the pentagrams.🙂(I mean, what can I even say...) It’s like—"Why does everyone have it out for him?" (asking that seriously, yet somehow childishly). Yeah, the point is scattered, just harder for me to wrap my head around. But you're right; you aren't the only one telling me this. Can you actually follow along and get what I'm saying?
So, what do you guys think? Why is the spike breaking up like this, and where exactly is the root cause?
Sometimes I feel like I’m getting hit with a million pieces of information at once. It's impossible to track. If anyone here knows anything, please explain it to me—it's easier to talk when I don't have to look someone in the eye. I've got so many issues now that I can't tell what caused what. Everything just crosses over into a mess. Honestly, maybe it's the drugs, or maybe all these pills hitting my memory. My head feels like it's spinning. I can't go out in the sun without an epileptic seizure, then there's this syndrome from some explosion hitting my head... ear issues I'd rather not mention, PTSD, and my pituitary gland is a wreck because of how Pam hit the sella turcica. Now I need medication for life because my metabolism is shot—calcium and phosphorus levels, osteopenia, you name it. Plus all the meds for physical stuff after I got injured during a rupture back in '96. And then there's this. Since the war ended in '96, I fell into drugs because life didn't seem worth living. That was the moment everything changed. I met this self-proclaimed "spiritual guru." I don't blame him, despite how naive I was. I was a good target—came back from the war confused, broken, vulnerable. He saw I was an easy mark, someone who had been honorably discharged from service, and he circled me for a long time until we both went down—he to the grave, and me to hell. I snorted for a long time; I used to hate it, but then I became part of it. You know how the system works that first year while you're trying to get your footing. You have money, but without him, you have nothing. He knows how to make it and blow it, and he won't move without cash. So for a year or two, I paid, and he brought the stuff from the dealers—we split everything fifty-fifty. That's how he trapped me. After that, we were just spiraling deeper and deeper. You fall, and you try to hide that you can't change your ways. It's always, always the same story.
Look, if I'm off-topic, just say so. You started this thread, so you're bound to deal with some haters—people always find something to whine about, even when they have no right to. But that’s on them, not me. I just call it like I see it. I tell the truth. If I don't get something, I ask. Simple as that.
-That’s why I was asking about the truth. Honestly, I didn't mean to push too hard.
-I don't know. You tell me what exactly would kill me. I forget things constantly—total amnesia. But hey, if we could just wipe the slate clean so I don't have to keep begging for answers, since there's still plenty more I haven't said... then maybe it wouldn't be such a chore.🙂

I think I get what you mean. It seems like you're dealing with an issue regarding how molecules—neurotransmitters, I guess—transfer between presynaptic neurons and receptors on the postsynaptic neuron.

The receptors on neurons tend to adapt to the impulses they receive from various stimulants. If someone is using a specific substance continuously, then most of those receptors eventually adapt to the signals unique to that specific opioid.
That probably means fewer receptors are available to handle all the other responses to the body's internal and external triggers.

And since every exchange of information responsible for a person's psycho-physical state happens through these receptors, I suppose it’s logical to conclude that the only sense of "fullness" one feels is when the body receives exactly what it has adapted to most.

Drugs (much like other vices, I guess) indirectly mess with the positive and negative voltage between the surface of a neuron and its interior.
In a resting state (an inhibitory signal), the surface is positively charged while the interior stays negative.
When those charges flip (positive inside, negative outside), an action occurs—an excitatory signal.
Switching between these two states creates the impulse that eventually results in releasing neurotransmitters, which then latch onto the receptors of another neuron.

Substances found in opioids act on the receptors that pass the impulse along via these voltage changes, essentially seizing control of the entire nervous system and, by extension, the whole human body.

That entire electrical flow has to remain balanced, I guess.
But because opioids alter both the mental and physical state of the organism by bombarding it with so many triggers, it causes a sort of chaos within that electrical circuit.
Chaos in the circuit leads to chaos in the nervous system.
And chaos in the nervous system might result in, I don't know, "discontinuity."

The solution? Maybe it's simple. Stop the influx of the chaos agents, fall in love, engage in long-term intimacy, and maybe balance will slowly return. 🙂

In the meantime, check your PM for further instructions.
