Would you actually feel comfortable—or respected, for that matter—if a cashier at your local grocery store barked, "What the hell do you want?" instead of a polite, "How can I help you?"
My social circle uses profanity too, but certainly not in every single sentence.
There is a massive difference between someone venting their frustration in a moment of anger and someone who talks like a sailor every time they open their mouth.

Swearing is often a sign of helplessness or uncontrolled rage; so, frankly, if someone is dropping F-bombs constantly without any provocation, they clearly have some internal issues to work through.

Back in the day, I’d run into similar vibes at those little hole-in-the-wall diners tucked away far from the main highways in the Midwest. But honestly, the food was so damn good that I couldn't have cared less about how they addressed me. 🙂

Just because your circle thinks a swear word is some kind of personal attack doesn't mean it actually is. It honestly just means you're hanging out with a bunch of sensitive losers. ☕

ruggedbison40 said:You are one of the rare individuals who swears and spits on this forum with such fine structure that I have always tolerated you, though you have certainly crossed the line into the waters of pure primitivism more than once.

In any case, I distinguish people like bluecyclist64 from those who are simply revolting, mindless, and incapable of coherent thought.

There is also a distinction between swearing in general and swearing at someone. I might let out a string of curses occasionally, but I generally try to avoid being sacrilegious; it's usually just a muttered "damn it all" when things go wrong, or perhaps a well-placed profanity that simply slipped out...

But I don't direct it at people, rather at the situation itself. And I don't do it in public, considering I view this entire forum as a public space, which is why I keep my language to a minimum here.

Aww... honestly, this sounds just like that little cricket chirping at a knot on a black mulberry tree, or maybe one of those ocean waves that just wants to say good morning. 🙂
placidwolf27 said:Well, seeing as you’re just an organic system—one that emerged from yet another organic system—it’s entirely relevant to the subject...
Fetal development matters here; the formation of all those biological building blocks, the aftermath of birth, whether you were an only child or if siblings came out of that same organism before you did... how old was that organism at the time? Was it healthy, or was it already worn down? You have to consider the stress levels during pregnancy, the hormonal fluctuations, and all that other physiological noise...

Now, I’m asking out of pure personal curiosity—frankly, I couldn't care less about the "topic" itself—but it’s deeply connected to what you’re asking. In fact, almost nothing else determines the outcome you're inquiring about, so I'm asking...

Furthermore, this idea that you are "the same"—that's just a baseline assumption. Most people don't actually "grow" in a meaningful sense; they just reach a certain state and then proceed to age...

To actually become different, you would need to be exposed to experiences and circumstances that deviate from what your organism has been conditioned to handle. That is when you undergo change, or adaptation, or whatever one chooses to call being conditioned by the environment...

But what you are specifically asking about is something known to occur based on maternal age or epigenetics rooted in early development—say, the first three years of life, for instance. Honestly, anything falling under the umbrella of early development might actually be more relevant than the topic itself...

Honestly, you sound like you're describing a faulty dishwasher. You forgot to mention the limescale buildup! 😁

That would be a whole different ballgame. A real emerging market play. It’s a darker—but way more profitable—version of those "do-gooder" proposals everyone keeps pushing. Basically, if you ask me... we’re talking about moving straight to spontaneous complications. We'd need specialized clinics on every corner, which is a booming sector anyway, and it would provide a massive cash injection for the healthcare system. Plus, you've got seasonal and off-season medical tourism... all-inclusive packages, basically...

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I’ll just head over to my neighborhood clinic. You mentioned yours is covered by insurance. 🙂
analogviper9 said:Honestly, what does someone's choice of vocabulary have to do with how the entire economic system functions?🤔>

That's huge. Honestly, just because... This one. One marriage could end up failing, and honestly, that might be a good thing for the economy. Think about it: one household splits into two. Suddenly, you need two washing machines, two refrigerators, two couches, two dogs, double the utility bills, and twice the property taxes. Once that critical mass starts moving, the economy really starts to hum. What would happen if we all just started splitting up left and right? 🤔
Language as a sign of alienation in Philosophy ·
Some people argue that the issue isn't actually the language itself, but rather the invention of writing.

I'm not really one to sit down and pore over stuff like this, but I figured I'd share it here in case anyone else finds this whole debate interesting.

Language as a sign of alienation in Philosophy ·
This is such an interesting topic. Sociolinguistics also suggests that language acts as a sort of mental prison. Still, trying to grasp a pre-linguistic state feels nearly impossible, unless you're perhaps looking into some pretty intense entheogens. 😁

I’m particularly drawn to the idea of timelessness serving as the bridge between pure spontaneity and conscious thought. I'd love to hear if anyone here knows a bit more about that concept.
vividskipper39 said:I mean, everyone’s different. For some people, swearing is just their whole vocabulary because they grew up without much, while others use it just to add emphasis... then there are those who are just plain unrefined.

And using sexual innuendo or being extra suggestive during a conversation can mean a million things. You really have to get to know someone first to figure out what they're actually getting at or if there's something deeper bothering them...

Can someone please walk me through the logic here? How on earth is a vocabulary filled with swear words somehow "poorer" than one without them? I'm struggling to make sense of that math. 😵

Apparently, even for "man's best friend," we have to pay a tax.
Is this some kind of tax on companionship? A levy on our love for a living creature that can literally save a human life? We're talking about beings that serve as emotional anchors for the lonely, the abandoned, or the elderly folks who might have nobody else left in the world to lean on.

And then you've got certain animal welfare organizations backing this, likely hoping to pad their own pockets with the revenue. Isn't that just a blatant conflict of interest?

Jesse Mendoza4 said:When parents don't take a kid's emotions seriously—regardless of whether they're a boy or a girl—that’s straight-up neglect. That lack of impulse control and all that built-up frustration you're talking about? That’s the direct result of long-term, inadequate parenting.

I honestly feel like the fallout you're describing comes from parental neglect rather than gendered expectations specifically. To me, it's just as wrong to tell a boy to "stop crying, man up" as it is to tell a girl she's being "too sensitive" or "acting like a girl." In both scenarios, the kids end up feeling hurt and unsupported.

Girls can deal with the exact same psychological fallout from that kind of upbringing as boys do.

So, I'd say the issues people face as adults are really just consequences of poor parenting, not necessarily tied to those specific "be a man" or "be a lady" clichés. The heavy lifting is on the parents; a parent who is actually present and engaged will raise a child who feels secure in themselves. Neglected kids, on the other hand, often grow up needing serious help, just like you described in your post, regardless of their gender.

In broken homes, you'll see siblings—a brother and a sister—both struggling with the same issues, like suppressing emotions or acting out destructively. But in healthy, functional families, you'll see siblings who are both stable, living good lives, and expressing themselves in a healthy way. At the end of the day, I think it’s much more about the quality of the upbringing than any specific gendered phrases.

Amen.

Donna White50 said:Look, we're part of a bigger machine here, and unfortunately, the way our economy works today is basically set up so that only a tiny handful can win at everyone else's expense. That's just the reality we're living in. It’s the driving force behind why so many young women are pushed to grind through college just so they can land those high-paying executive roles tomorrow—roles that, let's face it, usually end up going to men about 60% of the time anyway.
Masculinity and femininity define us, and even if gender roles didn't exist, biological patterns that shaped our species would still make men, well, men. What really bugs me, though, is this current trend where masculinity is being stripped away in every possible way, and power is being shifted from men to women across the board. The tragedy is that we haven't even come up with a new blueprint for men to follow; instead, we're seeing this push toward feminized masculinity and other lifestyles being treated as the new "in" thing.
Then you've got this massive clash between the old school and the new generations because of all these social shifts, and the modern man is basically losing his footing. Like, what you do with your family or whether you want to wear a skirt—that's your business, totally private. But in the workplace? People expect teamwork, expertise, skill, education, and results... if you don't bring that to the table, you're basically invisible.

Donna, I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. What on earth does the economy have to do with the ideal of masculinity?

Sure, even without gender roles, men would still be men because of their biology. That holds up. (Well, not always, but that's beside the point). As for this "transfer of power," as a supposedly "clueless woman," I haven't seen anyone take away a man's manhood through policy. Period.

(And look, I don't really take the whole transgender thing seriously, no matter how much it makes me feel like a bad or politically incorrect person.)

I also don't see "feminized masculinity" becoming trendy. Most young guys I see are hitting the gym constantly or going for that rugged lumberjack look, growing out beards thick enough to hide a family of ferrets in.

And yeah, your fashion sense at the office shouldn't matter. Why should it? It's perfectly normal to expect skill, education, and knowledge regardless of what someone wears. Teamwork and success might be more critical in some jobs than others, but again—how does any of that relate to being a man?

Look, maybe I completely missed the point since I haven't watched the movie and don't plan to. Honestly, I'm pretty fed up with the PC feminists who mourn over men being unable to show emotion because of "the patriarchy." They brought these issues on themselves; they can deal with the consequences. It's not like women don't have plenty of our own problems to worry about.

Honestly, I think that's a pretty solid way to look at it. As long as you stay far away from those self-proclaimed gurus.
