boldcanyon14 said:Look, I can't really speak for the other subforums since I don't keep tabs on everything, but I can definitely speak for my own. Five users were hit with partial bans, and all five already had hundreds of active points and dozens of warnings for off-topic rambling, fighting, and general nonsense. They had two months to shape up, and I personally reached out to them via DM to try and smooth things over.

A few of them are actually clones who have been trolling the Economy section for years. Honestly, I was willing to look the other way if they just started posting on-topic and stopped insulting people under fake names. But when I saw zero progress, I handed out the partial bans.

If you genuinely think those guys are examples of what Gerald Chavez7 meant by "economic discussion," more power to you, but this isn't even 1% of the garbage he’s been dumping in the Economy section that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual subject. Maybe you enjoy reading that stuff, but there are dozens—even hundreds—of users who don't want to deal with it. They report the posts, they complain, and when they see no action being taken, they end up getting dragged into arguments and insults themselves.

When a thread gets so heated that we have to scrub 20 or 30 posts, yeah, some decent posts get caught in the crossfire too. But those posts can't stay because they inevitably reference the toxic mess surrounding them; if I leave them up, the whole cycle starts all over again. It’s entirely on the people writing those posts. If they had just made a clean post without referencing an off-topic argument, it wouldn't have been deleted.

Besides, Kerefek isn't banned from sharing his predictions or whatever; he just moved over to the Alternative section because no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make those posts fit in the Economy section. If it were true what you guys are claiming, he'd be banned from the entire site to silence him, and no discussion would be allowed at all.

As for the topic he claims was shut down because it didn't fit the narrative, it still exists; it's just under Politics. All the players I told to stop clogging up the Economy section are free to post about it over there, because that's where it belongs. Believe it or not, they're even allowed to argue against the narrative. 😲 Kerefek is still posting his stuff, just on the Alternative board, which proves everything is permitted—it just has to be in the right place. If we start talking about everything everywhere, then there's no point in having subforums at all. We might as well just have one giant chat room where everyone talks about everything at once.

It might not look that way to you, but talking about vaccines, the planet Nibir, global elites, secret agendas, and all that junk in the Economy section is like talking about it in the Food section. It makes zero sense. Even if one single post tries to link something back to the economy, the next ten posts fly off into total nonsense.

Tony, you're a solid moderator... 👍

Look, Veli, I wasn't trying to point fingers at you... I just wanted to make it clear that we can't pretend there isn't some level of censorship and content review happening on this forum. It's just not okay to act like it isn't there...
Just stick to the topic, please. No direct insults or even those subtle jabs... just keep it civil and follow the rules. I think the night finally got the better of her...

And this was during that stretch when the economy sub wouldn't moderate anything... back then, you could scroll through pages and pages of people just absolutely tearing each other apart for days without anyone stepping in. But the second someone drops a high-quality economic analysis about exchange rates between warring parties—right in the middle of the relevant thread, mind you—it’s gone. Deleted within thirty minutes... typical.

Got it. Understood.
So, how’s the economy actually holding up now that all those sanctioned players are causing such a mess...
Are there more posts?
Maybe read more...
More debating?...
Is this sub actually better now? Or just different...

So, how are the numbers looking?

True enough... 👍
But man, boldcanyon14, you've got the misfortune of seeing how the Economy is basically the widest net that catches everything else. By definition, it should be the most open area. But where do you draw the line? Who knows...

Oh, really? So WEF agendas, the WHO, wars, geopolitical games, pandemics... none of that has anything to do with the Economy?

Or even politics? What does that have to do with the economy? 😁
Especially here in the States... ☕

No, these aren't posts from the Alternative boards; they belong right here on the Economy section 😲 ...and I mean literally through hundreds, if not thousands, of posts (and unfortunately, I can still see your deleted ones). Every single year since roughly 2011, you’ve been predicting the total collapse of the US, falling even deeper into the rabbit hole.

You had a bit of luck throughout most of 2022, mostly because the main board didn't have any active moderation going on—Wand had basically checked out, and I was just sticking to the sub-sub-forums... But once boldcanyon14 stepped in, of course, he cleaned things up and we all agreed on the partial changes. The Economy section isn't going anywhere.

And thanks a ton for putting those posts up, especially that last one... really appreciated it.
It just goes to show how little people actually grasp cause and effect... the economy and the broader financial landscape are really just two sides of the same coin. It's all one thing...

That's too bad... 😢

boldcanyon14 said:The only sad part is that you still clearly don't get why you were banned. Or rather, I bet you do, but you prefer playing the victim and clinging to these conspiracy theories about "information suppression" instead of looking at your own posts to find the real reason.

Just look at the nonsense you write here, in a thread where you're begging for access back to the subforum where you totally lost your mind. Do you seriously think anyone sane would let you back in after all that blowing up and subtle disrespect? But sure, let's just claim it's all some massive conspiracy against you. It could never be your own fault, right?

If it makes your life easier to believe you're always right and the entire system is out to get you, go for it.

For years, you were essentially exiled from the Economics section because you turned it into your own little playground to rant about COVID, wars, vaccines, chemtrails, globalist agendas, shadow governments, Nirvana planets, and whatever else. You act like some enlightened guru, turning every single topic into the exact same repetitive debate. So fine, go around telling everyone you were banned over an immigrant labor thread if that helps you sleep better. We won't mention the hundred warnings you racked up across ten different threads or the frantic DMs begging you to calm down.

By the way, there *is* a thread about immigrant labor, featuring the exact same crowd and the exact same arguments as the one in Economics. Only now, it's in Politics, which is where it belongs since it didn't fit under Economics. In fact, most of the posts there are actually against importing labor. There goes your theory about "suppressing information" and "controlled discussions." Just like always with your posts—you're just shooting blanks.

Tonci, look, I'm not saying people don't stray off-topic sometimes or pick up a ban when they deserve it... but don't act like we haven't seen those posts in the Finance section. They were perfectly on-topic, great arguments, followed every rule of etiquette and forum decorum... then suddenly, they just vanished into thin air.

No bans, no warnings. Just deleted.

They just messed around a bit and ended up with a single duplicate quote, and the regulars in Finance immediately knew what was happening.
You'd have to be blind to miss the "content review" happening right in front of us.

How many people did they toss into the void without a single reason, citing nothing but "increased sensitivity" ? And then they ignored them here when they asked why:

And during that period, there were a million threads here where long-time users with spotless records got nuked solely for having an "unpopular opinion," even if they stayed on topic and followed every rule. The mods just swallowed high-quality posts overnight without any explanation. It's textbook censorship.
Even the guy in the link above explained it to an intelligent person by saying: it isn't crap, the dog just had an accident. 😁

I'm not pointing fingers at you, but please, stop burying your head in the sand.
Now the Finance section is exactly what you wanted—a half-empty shell where everyone who sparked a real conversation was kicked out, leaving behind half the reading and half the posts. 👍

But hey, at least the content is actually "high quality" and stays on track with the narrative 😍

The moderator is basically non-existent; instead, troll Elvis just shows up and acts out until the whole topic becomes about him.

First, it was that thread about Gen Z managers under 30.

quietangler47 said:Roommates and Regrets

I’m picking up where I left off in that previous thread—which, for some reason, got shut down. Should this have been moved over to the psychology subforum? Honestly, I’ve never quite wrapped my head around how the moderation here works, but I’ll try to calmly lay out the rest of what I couldn't say there...

So, here's the deal: I took in a girl who just turned twenty, and we’re living in a tiny apartment together. I am seriously torn right now between whether I should kick her out, move out myself, or just somehow push her away from my life entirely.

She came from a domestic violence shelter, so she’s dealt with some heavy family stuff. Initially, I felt nothing but sympathy for her, but lately, it feels like life is just throwing one shock after another at me. First, her parents thought she’d committed suicide and had the police showing up at my door, then she started bringing guys back to the apartment... now I’m getting the distinct impression she isn't just using these guys, she's using me too, treating me like some sort of surrogate mother. After I started that last thread, an older woman from next door actually knocked on my door and lectured me, saying I need to look out for the kid, that she's basically still a child, that I should help her get a job and whatnot... Look, I *do* all that, but I’m just so frustrated. I come home and there’s some guy sitting on my bed—someone she considers just another "friend"—and they’re practically making out right in front of me, only for someone else to show up the very next day...

I’ve already told her straight up: no guests. But does she listen? Not even a little. To make matters worse, the girl can't even remember my name, which is pretty ridiculous considering it’s a super common American name. Sometimes I genuinely wonder if something is wrong with her, like, is her head actually okay? And this whole thing with the older guys she hangs out with is terrifying; one of them has a real temper and gets aggressive. I’m honestly scared she’s going to end up a victim of more violence or something even worse.

The guilt is eating at me. Part of me knows I need to get out, but then I start questioning if that’s the right thing to do. Should I wait until she gets her first paycheck to see if she’s actually exploiting people or if she’s just broke? But deep down, my gut is screaming at me to just run for the hills. My perfumes are disappearing, my makeup is being used, my food is being eaten... she’s lounging on my bed and using my towels... I really can't take it anymore.

I have this nagging feeling that there might be something deeper going on with her, like all of this can't just be a series of coincidences...

Well, us readers are wondering the exact same thing about you—like, who did you pick to end up in this mess? At least I'm asking.☕

We’re just shouting into the void here, aren't we?

I see Nice handed out a card, so clearly this thread isn't invisible to the mods.
But I'm curious if they'd be so kind as to actually answer 👍

The real question is: why are on-topic posts being scrubbed when they don't break a single rule?
No warning, no card, no explanation... just wiped from history like they never even happened.
Meanwhile, the users who actually write them get to lose points...

Because honestly, it feels like: your opinion, your thoughts, your perspective—if it doesn't fit our vibe, you're gone. Cowardly.

Maybe they should consider a "card" for unpopular opinions?
At least a 500-point penalty for it☕

Or maybe they could try categorizing users by their handles?
Since the mods are already all black, red, and purple, why not paint certain users yellow—maybe with a little ribbon—and label them the court jesters? Just because their views don't line up with the front pages of the "serious," approved news outlets...

Or perhaps fully realize the forum version of a concentration camp over at Alternative?
Where anyone with an unpopular or "unaligned" opinion gets banned from every sub-forum and forced to post only in Alternative?

And then stick that section right at the bottom of the site because:
You go to the back of the bus, scumbag!!!!
*Spits aggressively*...

🎉

Just dropping a link here so readers can get some perspective... 👍

I know your question was rhetorical, mostly because you already know the answer...
The "content reviewers" have finally arrived at Reddit too.

So now, it doesn't even matter if you follow all the rules and aren't offending anyone.
Your opinion actually has to be pre-approved first!

And when it comes to the war in Ukraine, you're only allowed to say the approved line: that Putin is a lunatic and a war criminal who UNPROVOKED invaded Ukraine!

That’s the bottom line. Anyone thinking differently is just crazy, a conspiracy theorist, and belongs on Alternative—where else would they go? 😁

They won't even bother trying to argue that they aren't censoring anything. They'll just claim you're a problematic user who's always posting nonsense and conspiracy theories, and then they'll just lock the thread nicely... 😍
(maybe they'll mention Nibir, too)

You're persona non grata, my friend!
Because your views and opinions are just way too dangerous!!!
So, my thread is getting totally ignored by the mods and admins again, which means history is just repeating itself:

They're labeling this as hate speech and docking 500 points?!?!?

The whole situation is honestly just embarrassing...

Once again, I’m asking the Admins and mods to please actually take a look at this.

Wand,

It’s pretty obvious you’ve got a massive grudge against Kerekes. You're just sitting there, waiting for any tiny excuse to drop the hammer and ban him...

The thing is, lately, you haven't really had a leg to stand on when you try to "cool things down." Your only real reason seems to be: he’s getting on my nerves!

Look, you clearly can't stand what he posts, but you can't just ban him whenever you feel like it just because you disagree.
At least, you shouldn't.

Surely you have enough self-control and patience for that...
Posting what you consider to be "nonsense," even if it's on-topic, isn't against the rules anywhere.

Since this has turned into such a subjective mess, I'd ask the admins to take a look at the warnings Wand handed out to Kerekes... and actually check the reasoning behind them.

I'll just give one recent and glaringly obvious example

Thanks so much!

The folks over at the economic bureau—especially Rolandus—have already been getting dragged through the mud quite a bit regarding Ireland and the diaspora there.

I’m assuming you guys can see those posts and all the nonsense they've been pushing, so if you could take a look... just for some context...
Expats in Ireland - Rolandus Forum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
God bless!

There was an "incident" recently where an entire thread got trashed by posts from rolandus, so the mods had to step in and wipe the slate clean.

I’m not sure what penalties were handed out, but clearly, they didn't work. We still have rolandus hanging around, adding absolutely zero value to the discussion—he wasn't there before, isn't there now, and has no intention of being. He just shows up to vent his frustrations by bashing anything related to Ireland using those same tired clichés he constantly dumps on the economics subforum.

He doesn't pop up quite as often anymore since the mods finally put a stop to it over there.

Then you’ve got Ambient, who’s basically the same story, relentlessly harping on about Denmark in a thread specifically about Ireland!

I’d suggest the moderators of that subforum consider handing out some fines to these users for these exact reasons.

Through that specific thread, I’ve actually met quite a few people in person... I’ve participated in discussions with constructive arguments and advice, even acting as a bit of a "mentor" for some during their relocation and integration process. That’s exactly what the thread should be for. People living in Ireland sharing their experiences, and those planning to move asking for guidance and direction. All without having to wade through a sea of off-topic, frustrated posters.

Thanks in advance!

David Torres87 said:Given how demanding those diagnoses are, you can't realistically expect to grind for eight hours straight. It wouldn't work even for someone perfectly healthy. In an environment like that, you're basically just a punching bag for everyone's verbal abuse. Healthy people walk away, while you're left at risk of a total breakdown. Handling money requires constant focus, too. Staying unemployed isn't the answer, but neither is destroying your health for a paycheck. Do you have any specific skills?

Exactly.

Taking a job at a call center when you're struggling mentally is about as smart as a vegan taking a gig at a slaughterhouse or a recovering alcoholic working in a distillery... 🤦

Gary Myers said:I started this job at the beginning of the year. It’s not high-stress, and I could see myself sticking with it long-term since it's actually somewhat interesting. The downside is that I'm officially classified as having just a high school diploma, so my pay reflects that, even though I have a college degree.

The issue is my cubicle mate. Ever since I joined, the vibe in our workspace has been "heavy"—if I can even find a better word for it. When I first started, she wouldn't even talk to me for the first couple of weeks. She’d only speak up when we needed to coordinate tasks. She told me straight up that I was the fourth new hire in a single month and she just didn't have the patience left for anyone else.

In the months since, it's been a cycle. One minute she's taking her frustrations out on me, the next she's venting at a few other people. It's hard to listen to, especially because she calls them names—not to their faces, obviously, but once they leave the room or hang up the phone. She's constantly criticizing. Because of all this, the atmosphere in our office has never felt relaxed.

During the "quiet" phases—when she's directing her anger toward others instead of me—we occasionally chat, but even then, you can feel the tension. We never actually laugh together.

She mentioned once that she's open to new ideas, but I get the feeling she actually hates it when someone suggests one. Once, she shut down an idea I had, calling it useless. I dropped it. Then, a while later, she brought up the exact same idea herself, acting like it was some brilliant concept and wondering why I hadn't thought of it.

I’m almost never included in conversations with the staff members she actually gets along with. When they come into our room, they’ll duck into another office to whisper or just close the door. And if I try to strike up a casual conversation with them, she’ll often cut me off, even though she wasn't even acknowledging my existence two hours prior.
Mostly, she only talks to them when she's gossiping about people she doesn't like.

Day by day, I'm finding it harder and harder to show up to work. I'm stuck...

Classic workplace bullying.

In a functional legal system, you'd file a lawsuit and she'd be fired on the spot.

Around here, you basically have two choices: find a new job or just suck it up.
It sounds like this is a government job, which usually means everyone is just coasting, so you'll probably end up choosing the second option.

Yeah, sure, the tension is exhausting every single day, but hey, at least the paycheck is steady and the workload is light...
Gross.
The real kicker is that the average person doesn't even move out of their parents' house until they're in their thirties. By then, they have absolutely no clue what it actually takes to live an independent life.
If you got kicked out at 22 or 23, you’d be forced to learn the hard way. A year or two of trial and error would teach you how to manage a budget... and you'd realize pretty quickly just how expensive everything really is.

But instead, people end up living under their parents' roof for years even after they start pulling in their own paychecks. They blow their money on designer bags, going out, or a flashy car—just exaggerating here, obviously. Then, once they finally settle down with a partner after a wedding or whatever, they act totally shocked when the bills actually start hitting the mailbox.

Plus, everyone loves using cash. Since nobody bothers with a budget tracker or anything, half the crowd has no idea where their money is even going... they just wonder why it disappears so fast. Nowadays, since most things are paid by card, your bank app basically gives you a full breakdown of your spending, which makes things slightly easier to track, at least.

I hear all the time that Americans are a financially illiterate nation. People claim it's because of everything from a failing school system to leftovers from the old regime, or just plain laziness when it comes to learning, plus a lack of decent financial education available...

What's your take? How do we fix this mess?

Please share any examples from your own circles that either support or debunk this idea...

Honestly, I think the core issue is that there’s zero mandatory education regarding life's finances. So, my finger points straight at the school system.

There’s no civic education. Nobody learns how taxes actually work, how surcharges hit your paycheck, how government agencies and services "operate," or who does what and why...
What are your rights as a citizen, a consumer, or an employee?

The school system offers absolutely nothing mandatory on these topics.

Sure, there might be a Politics and Economics class in senior year of high school, but nobody ever actually taught us anything useful about it...

How do we fix it? Instead of religious studies in high school, introduce actual civic education. A subject you'd attend at least once a week for two years minimum.

But then again, the people making those calls have a conflict of interest. It doesn't really serve them to have an informed nation.
