Does this thing actually handle software updates, or am I just looking at a static library? Is everything here guaranteed to be the most current version available...

edit: I see now, it seems mostly up to date, with almost everything being the latest release...
Timothy Taylor42 said:Are you referring to this specific part?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I had in mind... good job. I'm just wondering if there might be an American version available somewhere, just to make things a bit easier to navigate... 😉

On a side note, if the flash drive has a larger capacity, will I still be able to utilize the remaining space for other things?

@Jacob Foster11/">@@Jacob Foster11: I was talking about the setup itself. I don't need pre-installed versions of Windows sitting on there; I just need the installation files... 👍
I’m hoping the title makes my intentions clear enough.

We are all intimately familiar with the process of burning an image onto a CD or DVD and watching Windows crash—or at least, I am specifically referring to how it affects Windows systems...

What I am really trying to figure out is whether we can replicate that exact same behavior using a USB flash drive instead of optical media. It seems far more practical to carry around a single 16GB thumb drive loaded with various programs and installers rather than lugging a bulky case of CDs everywhere you go...

If this is actually possible—and my intuition tells me it should be—then I need to know the method. How does one burn an image onto a stick so that it functions with the same utility as a DVD or CD?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. 👍

All those initial teething pains disappeared back when they released the beta, let alone now.
Making the jump is definitely the right move, and honestly, highly recommended in every sense...

I second everything said here.

I dealt with a few minor glitches during the beta phase, but my laptop has been running flawlessly for several months now without a single error...

Samuel Evans14 said:Look, Windows just doesn't have a future! It is an incredibly unstable operating system... Every single time you boot up your computer, you're left wondering if the system will even load properly. It’s always some kind of mess... To actually keep things running smoothly, you practically have to reformat your hard drive every two weeks.🤣That is unfortunately the reality, and things are only going to get worse from here. Windows 7 was a bit of a sensation because it felt like Vista without all those ridiculous background processes, but honestly, the best version was Windows XP SP2. Once they rolled out SP3, they really started cluttering everything up with useless junk...

Oh, so that's why Bill Gates is the wealthiest man on the planet? 🤣🙏

Good grief, what on earth are you all struggling with? Now I finally see why there’s such constant whining about Windows every single week. Honestly, people, it’s becoming clear that most of you don't even know how to navigate an operating system properly... and then you lose your minds just because some random software isn't behaving. For heaven's sake, the information regarding these programs has been repeated a million times across the entire internet already.

Just save yourselves the headache and download PowerISO instead. As for the rest of your questions, I truly have nothing to say... :image

To be perfectly honest, Hotmail is absolute garbage. It’s just a buggy, broken mess. I can never get it to function properly regardless of which OS I'm running... Gmail is clearly superior, though I have to admit the interface doesn't quite sit right with me either.

Furthermore, the old 2003 version of Office worked much better for my workflow than this current iteration. They completely botched the design for no good reason...

John Clark6, forgive me for saying this, but I’m starting to seriously question your technical competence. Why? I don't know if I'm just exceptionally gifted at troubleshooting everything myself, but I haven't encountered a single one of those issues you listed. Not one. Ever since the very first RC version of Windows was released, I have followed its development closely. There were bugs, there were hiccups, and every subsequent release fixed a handful of them. By the time the final 7600 RTM version arrived, it was perfectly stable. I didn't run into a single glitch or error. And consider how much time I've spent with it; from the moment I installed it, I haven't looked back. To this day, I run it on my newest laptop and my desktop, and I've even handled installations for about ten of my friends, none of whom reported a single issue. One friend complained to me once, but it turned out his hardware simply clashed with Windows and wasn't performing properly. I went over to his place, wiped the drivers, installed them manually, and suddenly Windows 7 was running like a dream. I even had to mess around with the registry just to get his DVD-ROM working correctly. Sometimes an installation would take me two and a half hours, but it always finished without a hitch. Honestly, I've faced plenty of obstacles. Take NFS Most Wanted, for instance, where my laptop's resolution wasn't supported; I managed to fix that too. Not a single thing that ever annoyed me has remained unresolved. Why? Maybe I know what I'm doing, or maybe I don't. But whatever tiny detail gets under my skin, I find a way to fix it. And I can tell you right now, I might be the biggest perfectionist on this entire forum when it comes to operating systems...

I can't stand it when things go wrong and I can't settle the matter until the problem is solved. And mind you, I am typing this right now on my Windows 7 machine, which is running flawlessly.

So, excuse me, but I cannot agree with your assertion. I maintain that Windows 7 is a very solid OS; I believe it could be even better, and I trust that the lead developers are working toward that. Because if they weren't, I'd still be stuck on "good old XP."

The issue is that everyone wants to squeeze maximum performance out of everything, yet they are too lazy to actually put in the work. Windows was built by human beings. You claim to be perfect and insist that once you buy something, it should be flawless. Well, perfection doesn't exist. Even after all the years that XP has been around, I can still find a ton of unfixable issues that irritate users like you today. So, I suspect you will never truly be satisfied with your system, no matter how close it gets to being perfect.

That's all from me 👍

redsailor16 said:Guys, listen, the full version of Windows 7 finally dropped... I grabbed my hands on it after just a few days... though obviously, it was an unofficial copy... I'm not exactly made of money, you know... anyway, what do you all think? I'm seriously considering installing it on my laptop, which came pre-loaded with Vista... and frankly, Vista is a complete disaster...

Did your "v" key break and now you're stuck using "w," or are you actually just typing like a five-year-old? 😬

Jerry Baker66 said:I'm running into an issue here, and I can't tell if it's just some glitch from this past week... I simply cannot get the site www.wolframalpha.com to load, whether I'm using Firefox or Chroma. The only way it works is if I head over to the Computer, type the URL directly into the address bar, and then it finally opens in Firefox. How do I fix this? Everything functioned perfectly fine back when I was on XP...

That’s happening because you aren't using a real web browser—and by that, I mean Opera. 😁 Look, on Opera, the site opens instantly without any issues whatsoever...👍

Noah Sanchez39 said:I’m running the RTM version (Ultimate) myself, and Windows Update works perfectly fine on my machine; those Language Packs are listed as "optional," though I haven't quite figured out how to stop them from popping up in the future...

That’s exactly what’s bothering me too, because it looks like there isn't an easy way to stop it. Unless you go digging through the registry, which isn't something I particularly care to mess with since it isn't causing any real damage...👍

He found the American version, but even that isn't working
I installed it and I'm still running into the exact same issue...

Do you happen to have the RTM version on hand? You might want to try downloading it directly from their official website instead. If that fails, you'll likely just have to bite the bullet and install the final release version...
How do I password protect a folder? in Software ·
neongull3 said:I'm trying to figure out if there is an actual way to lock a specific folder on my PC. I've spent some time searching on Google, but all the software I stumbled upon seemed completely useless... All I really want is to put a password on a folder containing my private photos or videos, so that when I double-click it, a prompt appears asking for a password before I can actually access the contents...

Why not just toss everything into a WinRAR archive and protect that with a password? Or is it absolutely necessary for the directory itself to be locked...

Steven Hayes80 said:I should point out that the Windows 7 machines I’ve been working on are fully licensed, and according to the hardware benchmarking software I ran, this rig has more than enough power to handle the workload for a week straight.
Beyond that, I’m hardly some novice here. I’ve been working with computers for 20 years.
that's all.
Best regards!!

If you’re such an absolute expert, then why haven't you fixed the issue yourself? I mean, 20 years of experience... for heaven's sake, if you actually knew what you were doing, you wouldn't be posting on a forum because you'd have already solved the damn thing. It would be embarrassing...🙄

There isn't much to debate there, really. It’s Windows 7 Ultimate.

given my current hardware setup (4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 quad Q8200 2.33GHz, Nvidia GeForce 9800 gt 512 mb), which version of Windows would be the best choice for me... (Home, Professional, etc.)—and just to be clear, I won't be buying anything from a physical retail store (home, profešnal🤣,...) (neću kupovat u dućanu)

Is there any chance this is a one-in-a-million fluke, or is anyone else actually running into these same issues... 😕
It’s highly unlikely that the installation actually went smoothly... he might have just downloaded some complete garbage instead of Windows, or perhaps his own lack of technical know-how is tripping him up, or maybe they're just totally lost in the woods...

If you actually possessed a shred of common sense, you wouldn't be running into an issue like this in the first place... let alone considering making the jump to Linux... 😍

David Sanchez64 said:I just finished installing Windows 7 and now I'm dealing with these damn black squares appearing all over my desktop icons... I've rebooted the machine several times already, but nothing changes. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

It’s likely a graphics driver issue. Post a screenshot so we can see what you're dealing with.
