What drives a person toward self-sabotage? in Psychology ·

I wouldn't say that's quite right; maybe just do a little more digging into the history of pride...
What drives a person toward self-sabotage? in Psychology ·
Self-centered pride is ultimately what leads a person toward their own downfall....
that's really all there is to it...
everything else—those flaws and the impulses that drive us toward bad decisions—seems to stem from pride... things like feeling superior or inferior to others...

Jealousy in Psychology ·
I have a feeling that we tend to underestimate the impact of jealousy or envy. People often brush it off as just a standard part of being human... and I suppose there’s some truth to that, since none of us are born without those impulses. We all have that inclination, but it's something that can—and should—be managed. If left unchecked, it becomes this toxic seed that grows into a monster capable of spiraling completely out of control.
It’s frightening how far people will go because of jealousy. It usually starts small, but then it shifts into resentment, which hardens into pure hatred. And once you reach that level of hatred, it can lead to a desire to actually cause harm, to destroy someone's life. In a very literal sense, hatred is what fuels violence.
And it all traces back to that initial spark of envy.
Some of the most horrific crimes in history began exactly this way.
If you let that sense of envy fester and grow, it poisons a person from the inside out. Eventually, their heart can become truly malicious.

Yes, I suppose there is.
In the sense that jealousy can act as a catalyst to protect something we hold dear, or perhaps to shield someone we care about from harmful influences...

That seems to be the healthy kind of jealousy, as opposed to the toxic variety, which is really just envy...
Jealousy in Psychology ·
Envy is essentially a darker, more toxic version of jealousy.
Someone driven by envy might secretly resent the success of those they envy, or perhaps they even hope to see that person stumble.
At times, an envious person can't quite mask their true feelings, which might lead them to act openly against someone else....
Even if jealousy doesn't dictate your entire life, I suppose we all deal with it to some extent—whether it's managing our own feelings or navigating the resentment others feel toward us. We’re all susceptible to it, but I think it’s something we can learn to manage and eventually overcome……

Envy is that sense of discontent or disapproval triggered by seeing what others have achieved, owned, or simply who they are....
An envious person craves what belongs to someone else, often feeling as though they don't deserve what they currently possess.
In the struggle to pull themselves up to the level of those they envy, an envious person tends to suffer a moral decline, sacrificing their integrity in the process. Even if they actually succeed, I suspect any gain is only temporary.

Ultimately, envy is just an expression of HATRED....
The root of this feeling lies in Selfishness Inc.
To cope, an envious person might try to tear down those they envy by using unfair criticism or questioning their competence and motives.

It also makes people prone to being UNRELIABLE and DISTRUSTFUL toward their rivals.

An envious individual can be POSSESSIVE, excessively suspicious, and overly demanding regarding rules and expectations.

And at the end of the day, true LOVE IS NOT JEALOUS....

Have you ever dealt with someone who tried to undermine you out of pure envy? Or perhaps, can you recognize those jealous impulses within yourself?.....?????
Do you find yourself leaning toward jealousy at times, and if so, why... or do you stay clear of it entirely?.....?????

Is this actually a disease?

How deeply embedded is it in human nature?

And I wonder... is there even a way to overcome it?

Enchantress said:brightnomad0, I didn't really mean to imply they were being coerced or forced into specific behaviors 😁, but when you belong to a particular religious community, members tend to abide by its tenets. Some of those communities simply view blood transfusions as unacceptable. I hope that clarifies things a bit. 😉

I suppose so, 🙂

I would just add that before anyone decides to join a religious group in the first place, they should ideally have their own personal Faith. It shouldn't be about blindly following rules, but rather about understanding the scriptures—assuming we're talking about a Christian faith...

We've already covered religion quite extensively on this thread, so I won't dwell on it too much here... if anyone is interested, you can check out the other topic... here is the link

And I suspect it isn't just an opinion held by certain groups, but rather an interpretation of what the Bible actually says regarding BLOOD.

In Acts 15:29, it mentions that we should "abstain from blood" and "refrain from blood"...

So, it's primarily a matter of Faith 🙂

...because we believe that God wants what is best for us... since He knows better than we do as our Creator...

Ban them???????😕 I wouldn't go that far....

Don't we all still have the right to choose... about anything?

Do you honestly believe anyone could actually forbid something for members of any religious organization?
Don't you think everyone holds their own Faith and personal convictions they don't want to violate, just like how everyone follows their own conscience....

Blood is essentially tissue...

It also represents life itself (Genesis 9:4)

What you believe, you manifest in Spirituality ·
Norris said:Essentially, the idea is that Space (God, a higher intelligence) supports us in everything we believe, such that
"whatever we believe in becomes true for us".

In other words, through our thoughts, attitudes, feelings, words, and actions, each of us creates our own reality.

I suppose that's how it works.......🙂

The thought is that God supports us in everything we believe, but I also suspect that because He loves us, He teaches us and nudges us to think in ways we perhaps haven't considered before. It’s as if He corrects our perspectives so we might draw closer to Him, provided that is truly what we want. If we desire to know God more deeply, He will open our hearts and minds to just the degree that we are prepared to receive Him.....to the extent we are ready to understand.

It seems true that we create our own reality through our thinking, attitudes, emotions, words, and deeds. Everything operates according to spiritual principles established by God, which aren't really things we can bypass.

There are circumstances beyond our control and others we can influence, but those external factors shouldn't really hinder us from reaching our goals. In truth, it depends quite a bit on what we prioritize in life and what we actually intend to achieve.

Whatever we strive for, we can achieve with the help of the One toward whom we strive.
Through the guidance we receive—provided we can recognize it—combined with our own effort and ability to follow that direction, we can reach our goals... the ones we hope for...
We can influence our circumstances through our intentions, and those very intentions can prompt us to receive the guidance we need and desire...

What we strive for matters. During the time I was striving to find true love, I found God. And since God is love, He is the source of all true love. If we don't strive toward love, light, and goodness, we can't expect to encounter the One who is the source of all those things, nor can we grasp Him through intellect alone. You don't find God through pure intellect, but rather through the spirit He grants us so that we may know Him—and even then, only if we seek Him in the right way, from the heart....🙂
