I’ve never quite grasped the obsession with facial hair... though I suppose that depends entirely on your background and how you were raised.
Take that guy (the sanitation worker) at the first Exchange—he thinks having one slightly long fingernail makes him look tough or something... 🙄 But everything finally clicked once they showed where he actually comes from, who he hangs out with, and when we got a taste of those "opinions" rattling around inside his head... 😠
It’s nearly noon, and I am still stuck in a total stupor... 🙄 At this rate, I won't be coherent until tonight—it's a given at this point... 😢
Spring? Look outside, the sun is absolutely blazing... 🙂 Let's just chant the mantra: spring, spring, spring... 🙂 😁
I’m fairly certain anyone who actually dared to step outside this morning felt every single freezing bit of this cursed winter right down to their marrow. Honestly, I thought I was going to die. That biting, relentless ache in my fingers and toes—if you haven't experienced it, you truly have no idea what I'm talking about... it’s impossible to understand. I’ve been at my desk for forty-five minutes now, yet I’m still shivering and feeling completely dazed from the shock.
One of these days, this American winter is actually going to be the death of me. If I had happened to be heading home instead of commuting to the office, I probably would have just broken down in tears from the sheer misery of it all... just to find some relief.... ABSOLUTE TORTURE 😢 😢 😢
Hannah Price3 said:Oh, and you want to know what else is great? The sauna. It’s been ages since I’ve gone, but when I do, I usually sit there for about 15 minutes—or however long I can stomach—then jump straight into a cold shower. Honestly, I only really enjoy that part during the summer; otherwise, I feel like I'm dying, though I worry the effect won't last... If I manage to cool my head down under the spray, I can usually hang out in there for another half hour. If I’m not "brave" enough to get my temperature down, nausea sets in and I have to cut it short. And then, once again, back to the shower—though I don't always torture myself; sometimes I’ll opt for a lukewarm rinse instead of something ice-cold. 😁
I suspect that as an asthmatic, I probably ought to steer clear of the sauna... 212°F, right? That seems like a bit much for my lungs to handle 🙄
nimblegull23 said:I read somewhere online that ginger tea is actually great for circulation—so I’ve been brewing some lately, and honestly, it seems to be helping...🙂
As for me, I know there are those Ginkgo supplements sold here in the States (usually marketed toward the retirees 😁 ) that people claim don't even start working until you've been taking them for several months...🙄 🙄 🙄

I actually just finished restructuring my entire professional life quite recently... though I have no idea where you're coming from, Emily Sanchez3... 😁 one should be content simply finding decent employment—even if it doesn't exactly align with one's personal temperament 😛...

😱 There are plenty of other ways to stay active, too... 🙂
Peyo said:I’ve been coughing non-stop for the last two weeks—constant sneezing and hacking up all this lung mucus... plus, my hearing has been getting worse over the past few days. It feels like there's water stuck in my ears... some days it's just one side, but today it's both. What should I do? I haven't seen a doctor yet, mostly because I don't have a fever, and with flu season hitting everyone right now, the wait times at the clinic are ridiculous—I'd probably just end up catching the flu while sitting in the waiting room anyway.🙄
Just go see a doctor... sounds like your Eustachian tubes are clogged with similar gunk 😁 (they'll probably just flush them out with some warm saline solution) 🙂
Robin Collins5 said:Basically, I see these crowds of girls out there in tiny crop tops—no scarves 😁, no hats, no gloves—and honestly, good for them! I can barely survive the weather as it is.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you all... does anyone else deal with their skin cracking from the cold? I’m constantly slathering my hands in lotion (and using lip balm, obviously), which helps mitigate things slightly, but then there's the issue of the cuticles!!!!! 😠 😠
A total nightmare! help me out here...
Regarding that first point, I have never quite understood it... my sister heads out at night wearing nothing but shoes and fishnets (just fishnets, mind you—her legs are basically bare. And when she goes to her university classes during the day, she wears the exact same thing... just maybe some sheer tights... I mean, how, how, how... 😕
As for the second issue, I don't really have any problems; my skin stays as soft as a baby's... 😳 😁
Hannah Price3 said:One day, after being at the pool, I just stood under a steaming hot shower until every last drop of hot water was gone. It probably went on for more than half an hour...
I warmed myself right down to my core—it kept me cozy for at least three days.
I felt completely rejuvenated.
Honestly, I’d do that every single day if I actually had central heating at home... my water heater barely gives me five minutes before it goes cold. 👎 👎 👎
Total nonsense. I’ll give them credit for the cinematography alone—it was visually stunning... truly great shots. But the plot? It’s nothing but pure, unadulterated American patriotism. And the acting... you've got Affleck and that other guy—what's his name again?—plus all those women where you can't tell who is playing what or even why they're in the scene... 🙄
Can you give me your take on these ski gloves—assuming we actually get any snow this season 😁? As for the rest of it... goodness, I didn't realize you were quite so sensitive. Personally, I’m dealing with a constant head cold, but I can count my actual sore throats on one hand—literally, in my entire life—but then again, I have that other thing... 🙄
Sean Lee7 said:You know they originally offered the role to Larry David? Apparently, Bill Murray was almost on board too, before he finally decided to go with Lost in Translation instead.
Who even is Larry David? 🙂 I've had about enough of Bill Murray... honestly, he just can't pull off playing such an unapologetically terrible Santa Claus quite like Thornton can.🙂
I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed that hard in a movie theater👍
But since I always hit up Cinemark for their cheese tacostand—which, frankly, gave me a bit of indigestion when they showed that kid with the dried-up nostrils on screen...🙂 😁
Anyway, Thornton has always been my absolute favorite, and I think he’s the perfect fit for the lead in this one (something that hasn't really happened before 😁 )
Ugh, honestly, nothing gets under my skin more than those people who insist that winter is "good for you"—that it’s somehow the healthiest season of the year... what on earth are they thinking? For me, winter just means being stuck with a cold 24 hours a day; any bit of sunshine is a godsend because it might actually clear my sinuses—even if it's just by a tiny fraction.
Gloves don't do a damn thing to help... especially during these freezing mornings. If I happen to pull my hand (glove and all) out of my pocket just to grab a pastry at the bakery............. I'm done for—my hand freezes solid, and it stays that way for the foreseeable future. It's gross.👎
And I truly cannot wrap my head around those folks who go ice swimming in the dead of winter and claim it's healthy; I guess it works for them, but for me, that's just a guaranteed way to invite illness for the rest of my life. At the end of the day, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I prefer taking showers so hot that other people would get burns... but even then, it hardly helps.😁
Melissa Cruz2 said:Even though I'm someone who absolutely dreads the cold, I still have a massive soft spot for winter and the snow. I’ve already started layering up with two sets of sweats... once the temperature really drops, I might just throw on some tights too.😁 My usual setup involves an undershirt, a T-shirt, a long-sleeved shirt, a heavy sweater, and then a coat. Plus a hat, scarf, and gloves. I run almost every single day—it’s become such a habit at this point that I honestly couldn't stop if I tried.
At home, I always need to wear leggings because the chill always seems to creep up from my feet... Anyway, I deal with low blood pressure.
I also struggle with low blood pressure. I've been living in tights for over a week now... 😁 And don't even get me started on hats—I can't stand them. 😠 But man, the cold just completely numbs my brain when I'm outside. I can genuinely feel it happening—when I come back indoors, my speech gets slower and more disjointed. I basically have to wait for my brain to "thaw out" before I can function properly again...😬
Henry Wilson48 said:I don't think there's any way to stop being perpetually freezing—which is honestly a bit awkward. But once you accept it as an unchangeable fact and just try to mitigate the damage... you stop obsessing over all those elaborate preparations and rituals... and life becomes much more comfortable. 😎
On another note—it’s actually quite nice to have a small fleece blanket or those oversized scarves handy at home for when you're just lounging in front of the TV. You can even toss a pashmina in your bag; if you end up somewhere where the heating is subpar, you just drape it over your shoulders.
Give it a shot and you'll find you can get through the winter without much trouble. 😉
This whole thing feels a bit excessive to me. Isn't there that old saying about how you actually toughen up if you don't stay overheated all the time? That you build some resilience against the cold? Personally, I would rather 😁 It doesn't get cold in my house, and I only really need to bundle up occasionally—usually after spending the entire day out and then coming home to stare at the TV until my circulation completely bottoms out... 😁 Plus, I'm out at concerts pretty often, and there's zero chance they'll provide a cozy spot for you—in fact, it's usually a sweltering 95°F inside while it's freezing outside... 🙄
