It’s not always true that the past was superior—sometimes it’s actually better now. That's just how people work; it's built into our DNA to be nostalgic for no reason...

Oh, come on, what is your problem?
Of course it was a better time... though, admittedly, I was only watching the highlights of those years from a few years older than myself... back then.
Even today, I have punks asking me, "Why wasn't I born back then? Just a few years earlier, just a tiny bit..." 😢

So, maybe you actually prefer what we have today?
Like some sort of flying saucer—you could probably win someone over just by sticking your tongue out at it... 😉 🤣

I actually got caught up in the "New Wave," and then—as if that wasn't enough—the movie actually came out too 😕

Oh, how cruel the fates can be 😁

I can hardly wait, I truly can't wait... 🙏

vividcobra46 said:whenever my right ankle starts clicking🙄 . It’s not just a little pop—it’s loud enough that I feel like people are staring at me while I walk. Honestly... it sounds like my ankle is actually skipping a beat or snapping out of place.

I’ve been through this exact same thing myself. My ankles don't even click anymore—now it's other parts of my skeleton starting to act up 😛

I used to find the whole situation almost absurd—especially when I started my current job and my ankle would snap with every single step I took on the stairs. This 55-year-old woman was left completely baffled by her own body.
"So young, what's going to happen when you're actually old?" they'd imply...
As if being "young" today carries the same biological weight it did thirty or fifty years ago... 🙄

Now you've gone and reminded me... I was actually at the Mayo Clinic just last week.
Walking through the hospital corridors—passing right by the Veterans Affairs Mental Health Services wing—and there she was... standing about 20 or 30 yards away from me...
The chills I got! The sheer terror! It was intense!

I didn't see her up close, so I couldn't tell if she was younger or older... though honestly, it doesn't really matter.
Her jeans were several sizes too big for her, her leather jacket looked sickly thin, and her movements were so delicate, almost sluggish... she was just sitting there brushing her hair...

I practically bolted out of that hospital with tears in my eyes.

Every girl struggling with Anorexia I’ve ever met fits that exact description... if anything, I’d say they tend to be borderline hyper-ambitious about it.

Exactly.
Sister started college this year, and we all know how that goes—the endless studying, the pressure...
Does she actually know the material? Sure, but her goal isn't mastery, it's just getting that perfect 4.0.

And when she actually steps foot outside, she preps herself like she's walking a runway in Milan; the whole routine takes hours.
Even if she's just grabbing a coffee, heading downtown, or walking across campus... she has to look "perfect."

She spends an hour or even ninety minutes every single day flat-ironing her hair, just so it looks "just right" for the public eye.

But then you look at her bedroom, and it looks like the aftermath of a disaster in Chernobyl... she's perfectly fine living in a layer of dust and cobwebs amidst total chaos.

I know.
Of course the underlying causes are rooted in emotions, attitudes, and other "mental health" factors...
It doesn't necessarily have to be about achieving a certain look; she could have been suffering from an entirely different illness altogether—it wasn't strictly a case of Anorexia.

Ashley Vaughn79 said:Depression. It’s honestly terrifying how those people actually are—just deeply depressed. Or so I’ve read...

I have a friend who was hovering right on the edge of Anorexia a few years back—at least, if my estimation is anything to go by. Within a blink of an eye—maybe a month at most—she plummeted from about 155 lbs down to 128. She would go entire days without touching a single thing.

Now, seeing "128 lbs" written out might sound perfectly fine to some, but believe me—she looked deathly ill. She had always been around 155 and it suited her perfectly (it just sounds ugly when you write the number out, I suppose)...

I have no idea what snapped her out of it, but she eventually worked her way back up to 155. She looks great again.

Anyway, I don't personally know anyone else struggling with Anorexia. Thank God for that.

With my Sister, I never really noticed any depression. Even when there were hints of it, she’d snap back to her usual self almost immediately. So, unlike me—since depression tends to tear me apart quite frequently—she didn't deal with it. And yet, I never once considered that my appearance needed to be a certain way just to make an impression on the outside world.
Since I've never been in that position myself, I can't truly wrap my head around the mental state of someone who is capable of starving themselves... My Sister spent two months eating nothing but slices of bread a day, but she was away for the holidays, so we didn't see it. When she finally came home, though, she was throwing food away, hiding it, stuffing it into bags and stashing them in cabinets or under the bed—all while insisting to us that she had eaten.
Back in high school, she looked like she was still in elementary school—her lowest weight was maybe 85 lbs at 5'5".
There’s another issue, too: she always viewed me as a role model (she’s the type of person who will rarely admit to copying someone or seeing something and deciding to replicate it; everything is always "her own idea").
I have a very fragile build—I'm about 99 lbs, though everyone tells me I don't look like that number suggests—whereas she is quite curvy.
Today, she understands what she did to herself and how she used to look; she loves her body now, even though she realizes she quite distorted it during that period of starvation... but you can't undo that.
She used to wear an A cup, now she's a C... I don't know what she weighs now, and she doesn't even care.
Ultimately, she’s an attractive young woman today with the kind of curves men admire.
Unfortunately, Anorexia left its mark on her psyche.

Casey Palmer5 said:boldeagle3, it isn't actually about having a "weak skeletal structure."

Ha, please... I don't know.
I've always had such fragile bones—or so I thought—which led me to assume that was the culprit... 🙂

But honestly? It’s just pure laziness... 😵

Karen Brooks said:In this specific instance, I don't really see any underlying psychological issues driving the Anorexia—unless you count toxic ambition and the misguided notion that being skin and bones is the gold standard for beauty.😢

I mean, what kind of mental state would even drive someone toward that level of self-destruction??
Starving yourself just to satisfy some "toxic ambition" or the delusion that looking skeletal is the peak of aesthetics... that isn't exactly a "normal" way for a mind to function.

I spent two hours glued to the TV watching a documentary about a seventeen-year-old girl from London suffering from Anorexia. I still can't quite wrap my head around the fact that something like this even exists—that such a beautiful young woman could just... die from starvation. It’s absolutely horrific.

Is it psychological or what????

Why is it so hard to believe that this happens?
Honestly, this has been an issue among young people for a long time now—and it isn't just limited to girls.
I know quite a bit about the subject myself, mostly because my Sister fell ill with Anorexia a few years back.
She's been recovered for a while now, but at the end of the day, the root cause is always psychological...

I’m in the same boat as Kosturko. Whether this is just down to having a fragile skeletal structure—which, frankly, I do—or if my entire body is just prone to bleeding at the slightest provocation, I can't say...
For instance, my ankles started acting up when I was seventeen, though that eventually settled down after a few years. And don't even get me started on my knees. Staying active seems to be the only thing that helps.

Sometimes even my spine pops when I bend over, or my hip gives out during a sudden turn. It’s honestly awful. 😁
Back, neck, and joint pain... help! in Health ·
A sedentary lifestyle—staring at a computer screen all day long... I know the drill well enough.
You really have to commit to a routine if you want to see any results.
Perhaps you should try yoga or Pilates, much like what Casey Palmer5 suggested to you.
As for standard fitness classes or aerobics? Honestly, they feel more like an exhausting slog than actual training...

🙂
Dammit, I was supposed to get that movie uploaded to the video yesterday, but I just didn't...
Instead, I spent my entire night spinning my wheels from 10 PM until 1:30 AM. God 🙄
Consider it my own personal penance...

slylynx16 said:I honestly can’t quite put my finger on why, but I seem to run into very few women who actually appreciate a bit of edgy, dark humor—you know, the kind you see in a Quentin Tarantino flick, or shows like Jackass and South Park... It feels like the core fanbase for that stuff is overwhelmingly male. That’s the part that really kills the vibe for me. I’ll be sitting at a coffee shop with a girl, feeling bold enough to drop a particularly twisted joke that I thought was hilarious, only to be met with this blank, pale stare... At that point, there isn't much left to say except, "Whatever!"... 🙂''

I definitely fall into that demographic—I usually catch those kinds of movies either solo or with a guy... I honestly couldn't stomach watching them with a group of women—never.
When I first sat down to watch Four Rooms—specifically when that absolute riot involving Antonio Banderas, those kids, and the woman in the bed kicked off... I swear, I nearly fell right out of my chair laughing...
Four Rooms in Movies ·
FOUR ROOMS is absolutely brilliant... I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it, and honestly, I can never quite decide which storyline hits harder.
Actually, I do know—there's one specific segment that had me literally rolling on the floor laughing—it’s the part where Banderas and his wife head out to some party, leaving the kids behind, and oh boy...
between that woman in the bed and the little girl thinking her brother's feet smell like death...

🙏 😵 🤣

The whole thing is just pure, unadulterated chaos!!!!!

Anyway, once I get home, I'm definitely putting it on...
Devil's Advocate in Movies ·
I’ve sat through this one three times now, and it’s easily climbed into my list of all-time favorites.
To be honest, I wasn't nearly as blown away by Keanu Reeves as I was by Al Pacino—not that I'm surprised, given he's my absolute favorite actor 😉.
Anyway, I'll just say it... the movie is genuinely incredible.

Peter Myers29 said:I went through the exact same thing—stuck in this loop of indecision, wondering if I should pick up judo, wrestling, ju-jutsu, or maybe aikido... Then, by pure chance, I ran into some guys handing out flyers for aikido (ki-akido), and well, here I am five years later... My advice? Just go to one session. Watch how they move, ask the instructors whatever questions are crossing your mind... If it doesn't click with you, just try something else... 😉

Thanks for the pointer, Peter Myers29 🙂

I’ve actually been sitting here wondering what might catch my interest—provided, of course, I don't end up taking too many hits from those bamboo sticks...
But honestly, that whole "mental" aspect of it really appeals to me, if you know what I mean... 😉

Honestly, I was just sitting here listening to some ED Hunter music—which is practically begging me to actually pick up my guitar instead of just staring at it—and now you’re adding to the pressure...
👍 👍 👍

I’ve already "studied and absorbed" everything on the Kendo website.

Honestly, I went through all that trouble talking to that online advisor—I've been mulling over getting a Kendō set for about a month now, if I recall correctly posting about it somewhere...—only to have the whole thing be a total waste of time because the guy just tells me "KENDO."
Well, so much for jumping straight into the world of Kendō.... 🙄
