Blockbuster or Indie? in Movies ·
dustycanyon5 said:Honestly, most movies coming out of the US indie scene definitely fall into that category...

Oh, right—because absolutely nobody has ever heard of them, right?

dustycanyon5 said:The original 90s series was definitely a commercial hit, I'll give you that. But the Twin Peaks movie and this latest season? That's pure Art through and through.

Alright, let's settle this: what exactly do you mean by "Art"? Give me a definition. What makes a film "Art" in your book?

Amanda Robinson4 said:I’ve been spiraling down this rabbit hole lately thinking about the whole "high art vs. commercialism" debate... It totally takes me back to my high school days when listening to anything on the Top 40 charts was basically social suicide! You had to be into indie stuff or some obscure garage band just to stay cool. I feel like that exact same tension is playing out in movies right now.

The thing with music, though, was that there was this massive push to find the next cult classic—you know, that underground sound or the rising artist that nobody else knew about yet.

But hey, obviously that’s such a narrow way to look at things, and honestly, we should probably steer clear of that mindset altogether. We’ve already talked about how you really can't separate the two... Every piece of "art" carries some level of commercial weight, and vice versa, whether they managed to hit the mainstream or stay tucked away in a niche category or not.

Looks like you were a total product of that era, Amanda Robinson4.
I can't even begin to explain how much this sucks...
You don't even need to look any further.

Personally, I’ve always leaned toward the latter without even thinking twice about it. I mean, don't get me wrong, a few years back I was totally fine watching those massive Hollywood blockbusters—stuff like Terminator, Die Hard, or Lord of the Rings... but everything changed once I really started diving into actual cinematic art. Once you discover directors like Lynch, Bergman, or Tarkovsky, there's just no going back. Nowadays, I mostly stick to those deep, artistic films and tend to steer clear of the big commercial stuff...

Look, I’m no expert on technical genre definitions, but I think you might be mixing up your metaphors here. "Art" is really about a specific kind of creative expression, whereas "blockbuster" is just shorthand for how much money was dumped into a production and how much it pulled back at the box office. Theoretically, an art film could absolutely be a blockbuster. Even in practice, Lynch’s Twin Peaks series probably fits the blockbuster mold because it was a high-budget production that became a massive commercial hit.

Correct me if I'm off base.

Fine. I'll deal with it when the next glitch actually pops up.

A screenshot isn't going to do squat because the only time I can actually grab one is after the damage is already done.
A screen grab would just show me the notification and the post text—hardly useful info for any tech support guy looking to fix a bug.
The only way this works, at least in my book, is if I had some kind of specialized software running specifically when I log onto Reddit, though even that’s a headache since the program would have to distinguish Reddit from every other site in my browser...

Despite how much effort the moderators clearly put into trying to sort out my mess, I think I'm just going to have to accept that these glitches are part of the deal now.

I will say one thing, though—in my case, the mods reacted instantly . Cheers to rustydrifter10 and dubiti.

Here we go again. I’ve tweaked a bunch of the wording, tossed in some extra bits, and added "The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters."

Just double-check that you didn't accidentally hit quote instead of edit... honestly, it’s the same kind of glitchy nonsense you get from some of these mobile apps.
You open up the quote box, tweak something inside that little window, but then don't actually type any new response—and boom, that's it. The system just flags it saying there's no message to reply with... It's pretty easy to verify if you actually look at what you're doing...

I don't even bother using the quote function, but even if I did, there's zero logic to it—the software would have to register an edit of at least one single character for it to count, but right now, it won't even recognize when you swap out entire words...

rustydrifter10 said:Yeah, and it got fixed last time too. I don't know why you'd expect anything else this time around. This falls under the technicians' jurisdiction—I've reported what's happening to them, and they’re the ones who need to fix it. If you see the issue resolve itself, it would be great if you let us know so we can confirm everything is back on track. If this pops up again in a few months, there's a huge chance you'll get the exact same answer... because it'll still be up to those same techs that I report to, and then I'll just notify you once I've done my part. Please just reach out if the problem persists so I can tell them it isn't actually resolved. 🤷

I don't think the problem is you, rustydrifter10. Honestly, I have my doubts about tech support... because, first and foremost, when a tech team actually handles things, they should be looking for feedback during the troubleshooting process. They're supposed to ask the person reporting the issue for details about the circumstances surrounding the glitch—it's the only way to actually pin down the root cause.
You did your job perfectly fine. But since the technical department didn't even bother asking the basic questions that any standard US IT service asks by default (operating system? drivers? browser and add-ons?), I've got serious suspicions that this crew isn't actually interested in solving anything... which is why these issues keep looping back around.

Man, I really hate that this is falling on your shoulders when you're just trying to do your job honestly...

That's exactly how they act when they've been soaked by something...

Look, if I had, I wouldn't be asking questions here. I don't have a cat, and I certainly don't have ghosts haunting my desk.

Now it feels even weirder because it seems to happen in waves. Like, everything is perfectly fine right now—not a single glitch in sight...

I just ran into the exact same headache. I was trying to go back and tweak a few sentences on my philosophy thread on Reddit, and out of nowhere, it hits me with this: The message you entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters.
My keyboard is going haywire! in IT Support ·
I’m typing away at my keyboard pretty fast, and lately, things have been going completely sideways. Out of nowhere, right in the middle of a sentence, Firefox menus start popping up everywhere, or some random programs from my toolbar just launch themselves... It’s incredibly frustrating because these windows hijack my keystrokes—I end up having to fight through all this junk just to get back to finishing a single post on a forum.
The weird thing is, if I slow down my typing, the whole mess stops happening. Everything stays quiet when I'm not flying through the keys.

So, what gives? What am I looking at here? I already ran deep scans on my C: drive using Malwarebytes, Norton, and McAfee, and honestly, I didn't find a single trace of a virus or anything suspicious.

People over here just don't get it—they have absolutely no clue about the legendary status this movie actually holds.

Too damn good!!! 😁

Solid acting and a great vibe overall. That said, the concept itself isn't exactly groundbreaking—it’s a pretty familiar story being told through a standard lens.
There are definitely a few standout moments that managed to creep under my skin... just subtle, unsettling stuff that sticks with you.
Some of the motifs actually reminded me quite a bit of King's Dolores Claiborne.

To be honest, based on the trailer, I was expecting something completely different, so I hit a bit of a slump of disappointment during the first third of the movie. But slowly—thanks to some truly masterfully handled cinematography—the atmosphere starts to build, which really pulls the film out of its somewhat mediocre beginnings.

If you're the kind of person who appreciates those small, subtle details, it's definitely worth your time to watch.
Is The Naked Gun a genre-defining spoof? in Movies ·
Kung Fury

It’s not quite on the level of The Naked Gun, but honestly, it’s a much more aggressive parody of those cheesy, over-the-top 80s action flicks we all grew up with...
The whole thing is just one non-stop barrage of ridiculousness. Every single scene is basically a massive joke. 😁

I set my Windows Pagefile to a fixed 4GB back in Windows 7, but now Skyrim OSD is telling me the system is actually pulling over 5GB... What gives? Is there some weird catch I'm missing here?
