Q&A: General Movie Discussion in Movies ·
So, let’s wrap this up... Cinematography is essentially the visual soul of a scene—it's that specific look and feel that falls squarely on the shoulders of the Director of Photography. They’re actually pulling those levers during the heat of the shoot itself, which means they're the ones calling the shots on everything Douglas Clark2 was talking about...
Does that include the post-production digital effects too? You know, the whole VFX suite... the digital stuff...

That’s all down to the cinematographer. I mean, Roger Deakins is the reason those scenes look so damn incredible. Just look at that hotel sequence in 'No Country for Old Men,' Harrelson versus Bardem. It seems like such a simple, straightforward scene on the surface, but it’s absolutely masterful.

Or take that moment in 'Prisoners' when we get our first real look at Jake, the detective.

I'm still struggling to wrap my head around this, honestly... because you've got all these different crew members on set moving things around—tables, chairs, cars, whatever they need to get the shot.
If I just show up and take a photo of the scene, what does that actually have to do with Cinematography?
In other words, how does that visual style actually weave itself into the fabric of the movie?

I’ve noticed some people tossing around the term "cinematography" in their reviews like it’s just another checkbox for a movie... but what are we actually talking about here?

Look, what's almost certainly killing your performance is having two or more antivirus programs fighting for control. If you've got multiple ones installed, you really need to wipe everything out except for one—pick whichever one you actually trust.
The issue is often just the sheer chaos of an antivirus trying to coexist with a separate real-time antimalware tool. They end up stepping on each other's toes because they're trying to perform the exact same functions at the exact same time, and that kind of conflict will absolutely drag your system down to a crawl.

So, what kind of security software are we even looking at here?

"Boss on Deck" sounds more like some vintage adult film title. 😁

This whole obsession with weird localized titles has been dragging on for decades now. Don't get me wrong—there were times when translating for the "vibe" made sense, you know? Like when a literal translation would just leave the general public totally confused for some valid reason. But more often than not, they had a perfectly good direct translation right in front of them... yet, for some bizarre, inexplicable reason, they decided to go ahead and invent a completely different "translation" instead.
Genius Mind in Psychology ·
When you throw around a term like "genius," you really ought to back it up with some actual substance.
Do you have some freakish knack for calculus? A deep understanding of physics? Or maybe you just possess the rare ability to actually think things through—unlike most people out there...
The truth is, I often end up looking like the smartest person in the room simply because people don't bother to process their own words before they open their mouths. There’s a massive amount of nonsense floating around that people spout without even realizing what they're saying. Honestly, you don't need much more than average intelligence to spot the contradictions and walk away with all the credit...

Hey there. 🙂
Two GPUs fried, could it be the motherboard? in Desktops ·
Look, a motherboard just doesn't have that kind of destructive power. When one fails, you're looking at issues strictly within its own circuitry—it isn't going to go on a rampage and take out everything plugged into it.
In my twenty years of messing around with hardware, I’ve never actually seen a motherboard die on me... but a power supply? Yeah, those things blow up all the time.

If you consider yourself a gamer, my advice is simple: grab a high-quality power supply first, and then move on to the graphics card.
When you don't even realize how much you're actually clueless, that’s when you really find yourself stuck in the mud...
How to deal with insecurity? in Psychology ·
Honestly, your mood is mostly just a byproduct of whatever hormonal mess is going on inside your body. Take your adrenal glands, for instance—if they start pumping out way too much adrenaline, you end up stuck in this high-stress loop. It can lead to this weird, inflated sense of self-confidence that doesn't actually match reality, which just leaves you eating yourself alive from the inside out... it's exhausting.
When your dopamine levels start bottoming out, you're looking at insomnia and a total lack of motivation.
If it’s your serotonin that's running low, then you're dealing with the whole trifecta: insomnia, zero drive, and full-blown depression.
No matter how badly you want to crush a specific goal, you're ultimately at the mercy of your brain chemistry—it's driving the bus, whether you like it or not.
That’s exactly why certain drugs hit so hard; they hijack that chemistry and push your behavior way beyond any normal baseline.

People love to tell themselves that their mindset is the only thing holding them back, but most folks don't realize that their hormonal profile is what actually colors the emotions they perceive as "willpower"... that little spark of thought that supposedly makes things happen.
There are plants and synthetic supplements out there that definitely impact that chemical balance. You can see significant shifts, but you really have to be careful and stay moderate if you're looking for results that actually last...
Is a Corsair 500W PSU enough for an R9 270? in Desktops ·
swiftfalcon89 said:I mean, how much more do you even have to add? If we aren't counting those random overseas discount shops... the cheapest R9 270 I can find is that XFX model with the two-year warranty that actually comes included... $0.40So, I’ve got an EVGA GTX 950 here—been running for about three years now... and honestly, it's starting to feel its age. $0.43 Well, you tell me... I'm just sitting here waiting to see what happens next... 🙂 A beefier graphics card, lower power draw, runs way cooler... plus you get an extra year of warranty on top of that. If you ask me, it’s a total steal... $29 I honestly don't even know where to start with this... there's just so much more to dig into here. It’s one of those situations where you think you’ve finally hit the bottom of the rabbit hole, only to realize you were just standing on a ledge looking down at a much deeper pit... anyway, let me try to unpack this properly. 😉

You're absolutely right. All I remember about the Nvidia 900 series is that it was insanely overpriced... I think I spent way too much time staring at the price tags for the 970 and 980 back then, and honestly? It left me a little traumatized by the cost... 😁
Is a Corsair 500W PSU enough for an R9 270? in Desktops ·
I mean, honestly... I’ve seen this exact same cycle play out more times than I care to count. You think you're finally getting a handle on things—maybe you just upgraded to an Intel Core i7 or grabbed a decent EVGA GTX 950—and then, boom, reality hits you right in the face. It’s always the same story with these hardware specs and software updates... you expect everything to run smoothly like a dream, but instead, you're left staring at a screen that's about as responsive as a snail on tranquilizers. It doesn't matter if you're running Windows Basic or trying to push some high-end setup through a Corsair 500 w power supply... the disappointment is universal. I was looking at those old R9 270 cards the other day and just had to laugh—remember when we thought those were the cutting edge? Now they're basically paperweights. And don't even get me started on the way people talk about the Nvidia 900 series like it was some kind of miracle. We all know the drill by now... you buy the gear, you install the drivers, and you pray to the tech gods that your favorite game—be it No Man's Sky or something actually decent—doesn't crash the second you hit "play." It’s exhausting, really... just a constant loop of hype followed by inevitable letdowns... kaže:
Look, you’ve got two choices here... either you go out and grab an EVGA GTX 950—which actually pulls less power and delivers slightly better performance anyway—and you can finally stop stressing about your setup and just move on with your life without having to swap out anything else... or you keep overcomplicating things. Honestly, just get the card and be done with it... 😛

Sure, if you want to throw some bucks in there... 😁

Alexander Moore67 said:If you’ve got even a basic Intel Core i7 paired with a decent graphics card, you’re looking at hitting a peak load north of 400 watts... and honestly, if I were sitting there looking at a high-end rig that expensive, I’d be shopping for a much beefier power supply. Just wouldn't risk it...

Look, I’m not trolling and I’m definitely not delusional here. My whole goal was to build the most powerhouse rig possible while keeping the power draw as low as humanly possible—because, let’s be honest, I only actually need that kind of raw horsepower once in a blue moon...
Look, I’m not exactly some hardcore gamer—I don't spend my life glued to a headset or grinding for digital loot every single day. Honestly, I just like to pick up a title once or twice a year if the visuals actually look impressive... you know, something that makes the hardware sweat a little. Right now, though? I'm really gearing up for No Man's Sky... 😁

So, it's just the Windows Basic version.
Which basically means... I can pull the trigger on this without having to swap out my power supply, right?

What do you guys think—is a Corsair 500 w enough to keep this card from choking?
The rest of my setup is just 2 x HDDs and 2 x SSDs, an Intel Core i7 CPU, and 16GB of DDR3

His accent was just grating—honestly, pretty gross—and he had this weirdly quiet, smiling vibe going on... it didn't feel like he actually gave a damn about the woman. I could have bought it if he were playing some high-society snob, but right from the start? Not a chance. Especially when he was calling her—he didn't look even remotely frustrated or desperate because she was far away. Just totally off.

All in all, I don't see what makes this any different from every other mediocre rom-com out there.

That's interesting... To be honest, I thought the guy was repulsive at first too, and I was fully expecting this to be total garbage. But as the movie went on, he actually started growing on me. I was actually pretty pissed off during that scene where she's second-guessing things with the local guy, while the Italian dude was being absolutely wonderful to her from start to finish.

There’s definitely some heart in this one. But honestly, every single time I see that actress on screen, she comes across as being about as expressive as a slab of concrete... just totally lifeless.
The rest of the cast? Absolutely stellar. You've got an incredible group of Americans around her—and that Italian guy was just phenomenal in his role. Seriously, everyone was killing it except for her... she just sat there like a flat pancake in the middle of a deep conversation.
I honestly didn't think I’d be this shocked by Keanu Reeves' acting—mostly because I never really expected much from him to begin with. But man, this? This is straight-up bottom-of-the-barrel trash... Even the women in this thing did a way better job with their roles than he did.
