My family is falling apart :( in Psychology & Therapy ·
redbadger162 said:He’s basically built a wall. He’s been sleeping at his other place for three nights now, and whenever we call, he just claims he has to stay there because he’s working on some slow project or whatever. Honestly, we're mostly worried about Mom. She’s completely lost; she has no idea what’s happening or what to do. He’s essentially running away. We've tried everything with him—from telling him how much we love him to yelling because we're sick of playing parent to an adult. Every single time, Mom just brushes off everything he’s done to her lately. Despite all the verbal abuse, she just showers him with love. It’s gone from him being obsessed with tracking her every move to him avoiding the house entirely and sleeping somewhere else.😢

Is he dodging her, or everyone else too?

It affects everyone. For instance, I can't handle even two glasses of wine, let alone anything stronger. I immediately get poisoning symptoms—vomiting, headaches... my old man was the same way. That's why I don't touch alcohol at all.

So, that kind of intolerance isn't actually that rare...
Jonathan Morris40 said:I didn't get trashed like an idiot. I drank too much, sure, but I wasn't totally out of it. What kind of lasting damage does brain scarring cause, and can the brain actually recover?

By the way, I don't touch hard liquor. Just beer or wine. Mostly wine. Not enough to be drunk every day, though. Just maybe twice a month when I go out. I know plenty of heavy drinkers around me who haven't had any issues...

Everyone has a different tolerance.

Ethanol is a serious toxin. Here, look at this: http://theneuronetwork.com/forum/top...xicity-and-the

Ethanol is known to elicit neurotoxicity characterized by ataxia, loss of coordination, hyperexcitation, convulsions, and paralysis. Excess alcohol consumption alters neuronal growth and causes striking neuronal degeneration and cell death in several brain regions, resulting in loss of memory and cognitive impairments.

Probably wise to cut it out, at least until you figure out what's going on with you...

Did a little digging and found some info suggesting that hitting the booze too hard all at once can actually cause brain damage. Maybe a neurologist would have more insight on that...

Not a doctor or anything, but looking at how things played out and those symptoms... it feels like alcohol poisoning might be on the table. Did a little digging and apparently slamming too much at once can actually cause brain damage. Maybe a neurologist could weigh in on that possibility?

Maybe he just can't handle being idle... feeling like neither society nor his own kids have any use for him anymore? Or maybe this was just the trigger for some kind of depressive disorder or something...

hollowmoose75 said:Zero stars for politeness, though it doesn't matter... he didn't explain the procedure or what to expect. He was incredibly dismissive. When I asked questions about what comes next, he just scoffed at me. The actual exam took less than a minute... "Check your hormones, they aren't right, come back in four weeks." When I ask why or how, his only answer is because THAT'S HOW IT IS...

I told him I was nervous, and he just said, "NOT MY PROBLEM." It's not like I'm expecting much, but surely it wouldn't have killed him to mention it might be a simple dilation... 😢

I just wanted some information...

Who knows, maybe he was just having a bad day... If you haven't completely given up on him and still want to go through with it, I can put you in touch with a girl who had her procedure done by him during his first month. It’s a quick surgery and recovery is fast. I'm sure she can give you all the details...

hollowmoose75 said:she saw him privately and it was great, but the clinic itself was a disaster... 😢

Not sure what you mean by "disaster." Maybe he wasn't friendly enough or chatty? For a surgeon, that's secondary. I only care about skill and track record—how many surgeries they've done and actual patient feedback. It’s tough to find real reviews here in the States because people rarely post on forums after their procedures. Such a waste of useful info...

I haven't used Janušić personally, but a friend had surgery with him at the hospital and a relative went to his private practice. Both bounced back fast and are extremely happy. In the friend's case, it was actually a corrective surgery because someone else botched the first attempt. Usually, people seek him out privately when they aren't satisfied with results elsewhere...

Man, Dr. Kolundžić is on another level... old school. I didn't switch doctors for ages because of her (not that I even live on that side of town anymore). I'm positive she wouldn't have messed up my testing this badly if she were still working there four years ago...

I've been battling hyperthyroidism for over 4 years now (I'm 25). I'm on PTU 3x2, but the hyperthyroidism keeps getting worse. I don't even want to get into how intense and irritating the symptoms are... especially while finishing up my final year at a really demanding university.

It’s finally time for surgery (full thyroidectomy).

Since I'm relatively young, I'm looking for a top-tier surgeon. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Please help!!
😕

Yeah, and that's because of some great experiences from friends and family members (one was about 2 months ago—a girl around your age who also had moderate hyperthyroidism and went through a full thyroid removal): http://drjanusic.com/O_meni.html

Just Google him and see for yourself. 😉

My experience was fine, yours wasn't... neither of us is necessarily wrong.🤷 Just curious what went wrong on your end.
Hope you find a better doctor elsewhere.
🙂

I’d be interested to hear why yours was good. Aside from being polite and sounding reasonable—which I won't deny—did you have any actual medical issues that actually tested her expertise? Or was it just checking if you had a sore throat or something...
How to stop biting your nails? in Health ·
Carl Torres21 said:It's bad. I have this massive issue with biting my nails, but just on two index fingers... the rest are fine.
It’s turned into a serious addiction, maybe even an actual disorder, because there's zero chance of me stopping on my own. I never thought to ask for help before since I figured it was normal—I've done this for as long as I can remember. Those two nails never grow past a centimeter.
The cuticles are also a mess. I pick at them until they bleed so badly my whole finger is covered in blood, then my hands get too weak to even function.
Does anyone know how to handle cases this severe?

Just like any other addiction, it comes down to willpower. Trim those nails and cut back the cuticles every few days... nothing left to bite then.

Try to figure out what's causing your stress and dial it down.

Kimberly Rodriguez51 said:The doctor is great and I have zero complaints about her work.
The nurse is also lovely and kind.

So why don't you just switch doctors if you're so unhappy?

Since you're really looking for an argument, I'll tell you—though trying to defend her will probably backfire on you... She was "great and kind" for years when my biggest issues were just seasonal allergies and the flu. But once a real issue popped up that required basic triage—actual diagnostics—her medical knowledge turned out to be a total disaster. It cost me a fortune and wasted so much time. Not to mention she wouldn't even bother examining me to figure out what was wrong, leaving me unable to work for over two years due to a problem that should have been a quick surgical fix. She never even referred me to a surgeon; when I said I'd go myself, she claimed there was no reason to send me. There's more, but I'm in a rush...

I'm switching, obviously. But since my issues aren't gone yet, there's a real chance I'll need extended medical leave again, and that clinic has a decent administrator. That's the only reason I'm still going there.

The more positive feedback, the better.

What about those doctors over at the Albaharijev Clinic?

Cindrić Jasna, Bergman-Marković Biserka, Suzana Kumbrija??

Found them through a quick Google search...

No clue, but maybe someone here knows...

So now what?

All these conflicting opinions🙂

I really don't need another terrible GP on my list...

Besides, in my opinion, Helena Šimurina isn't exactly great, and she's out on sick leave so often that every time you show up at the clinic over the last six months, there’s some new doctor sitting there instead.

Anyway, when things get this messy with mixed reviews, I always wait until I have at least five solid positive recommendations before I trust a doctor...

Kimberly Rodriguez51 said:Dr. Helena Žirović.

It’s not at the local health center, but in that massive building where the main avenues meet...

That doctor actually goes by Šimurina now. And if you want a real recommendation—I've been seeing her since '93—don't even bother going there...

Amy Garcia38 said:I’m not offering a recommendation here, just a warning on where NOT to go.

So, this is about Dr. Helena Šimurina's office in the Horvaćanski area of the US. The woman is a top-tier doctor, but she hasn't been there for over two years—maybe maternity leave?—and she’s being replaced by a rotating cast of incompetents...

Yeah, she's a "top-tier" doctor who coldly allows a patient in their mid-thirties to be incapacitated for over two years due to constant, unbearable pelvic and leg pain, following a year of left groin pain... because:

a) they don't even perform an exam—NEVER.
b) they finish the diagnostic process but don't bother sending the results to a surgeon at all.
c) when asked what that swelling in the groin might be, the response is: "I really don't know."
d) after seeing a physiatrist, orthopedist, neurologist, and neurosurgeon, the patient is told: "I honestly have no idea where else to send you; you'll have to figure it out yourselves."
e) When the patient suggests seeing a surgeon, the reply is: "Why would you see a surgeon? You know, surgeons don't like thinking, they just like cutting."

Anyway, when that same patient (after three years of pain and roughly $67 spent on various private specialists and useless therapies) takes the initiative to visit a specialized clinic in Germany, it turns out the unsolvable mystery was—an INGUINAL HERNIA!!! The surgeon in Germany couldn't believe it hadn't even been checked.

The only actual competent doctor in that whole office is Dr. Božica Kolundžić, but unfortunately, she's retired and rarely covers for Dr. Šimurina.

Taylor Mendoza10 said:Thanks. Which of these hospitals has better neurosurgery? (dealing with a rare condition)
Where do Dr. M. Stančić and Dr. Saftić fit into this? I've heard names, but I have no clue where they practice.

If you're considering options in Vienna, check out:

He left a much better impression on me than any of the nine neurosurgeons I visited in America, including Dr. Saftić, who is listed here: http://www.dr-saftic.com/blog/kontakt-informacije/.

I got a decent opinion from Dr. Ledić at Cleveland University Hospital. Haven't actually gone under the knife with anyone personally...

Good luck.

Sandra Brooks91 said:Looking for a neuropsychiatrist who actually listens to individual cases instead of treating patients like they're on an assembly line... Looking for social or private options, maybe some combos 😁 Thanks.

If you're in NYC: Dr. Jadranka Žilić-Džeba at the Kruge Community Health Center. The wait times are brutal, but her professionalism and kindness put most private specialists to shame. One of the few people in the system I actually believe earns their paycheck.
