Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Taylor Palmer4 said:Hey,

Does anyone know a good dentist in Cleveland? Looking for someone attentive, calm, and gentle...

Thanks everyone.

If it doesn't strictly have to be a woman, you won't find anyone better than Anton Beaković (right across from the train station in Cleveland)... I've tried six different dentists in Washington, D.C., looking for that same level of skill and care, but nobody even comes close.

Carol Rodriguez16 said:Did that happen six months postpartum (if I understood you right)? Or was it during pregnancy or labor?

If it helps, I’ve dealt with a herniated disc myself—still have it, didn't go the surgery route—along with other injuries from a car accident, not pregnancy. The pain was soul-crushing at first. Barely walking, sometimes taking two hours just to get out of bed. Eventually, I figured out which exercises actually work and which ones don't. Between sticking to a routine and fixing my diet, things improved significantly after a few years. Now I mostly forget about it. Moving normally, staying active, lifting moderate weights...

Keep your head up. It gets better. Sometimes these things (believe it or not) can actually improve as you age👍

The groin pain started during pregnancy, but they didn't find the herniated discs until seven months after I gave birth. I was solo with the baby, carrying her all day long. She was already over eighteen pounds, and after three weeks of that, the leg pain became unbearable. Just endless doctor visits and diagnostic loops. Took more than two months to finally get an answer.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really needed it today. 🙂

In the grand scheme of things, a few years isn't much. But getting through them... these last six months have felt like an eternity. The worst part is just fearing it'll stay this way, or get worse...

Michelle Cook83 said:So, what exactly happened to you?

Three herniated discs in my lower back and a messed up pelvic joint where I've actually grown two bone spurs. I've been basically disabled by constant pain for six months now, and who knows how long it'll last—maybe forever. I can't lift my baby, I can't even crawl around on the floor with her... Doctors can't do anything except hand me more painkillers.

Joints, bones, connective tissue... they just get old. Sadly. Never really gave it a thought, nor realized it was an actual thing, until it hit me...

No one here treats me like some ancient relic, whereas in America, I’d probably be hit with all sorts of special restrictions. I’m nearly at the end of my pregnancy, feeling fine, still hitting the gym, swimming, hiking, riding my scooter... I even finished the ski season while three months pregnant. It really just depends on your mindset. The body can handle way more than we give it credit for.👍 And if I felt like it, I’d still have plenty of time to pop out five more...

Depends on your biology, too. For me, everything was perfect until about six months after giving birth (when I was 34), then my entire system just completely collapsed.

Based on my own (bitter) experience, I’d definitely suggest having your first child before thirty...
Totally flat :( in Health ·
placidseal13 said:starting this thread because I could use some advice... hoping you guys can help me out...
I turned 16 five months ago and still have zero chest development...
nothing has even started growing yet😢 😳 😳
honestly just completely flat😳
is this normal, especially since I hit puberty pretty early?
got my first period at 11, had a massive growth spurt that summer, hips filled out, everything except my chest... 😢
periods have been regular ever since and everything seems fine, just no breast growth whatsoever😳
is there any way to speed up the process or anything?
can anyone help? half my nicknames are jokes about being flat and it's getting old😢 😳

I'll trade a couple of well-developed breasts for your health and youth any day.

Sean Brown86 said:hahahaha... if only you knew how many times I've thought about doing that... but look... those people would find something wrong with me immediately... I'd show up there... stay for a few days... get run through every test imaginable... and that's it... what kills me is that not one doctor has actually told me the real cause of this shortness of breath... everyone just says "this is a little low" or "that isn't quite right" or "this is off"... nothing concrete, and then once they're stumped, it's just "it's all in your head, go home"...

If you have the chance, try looking outside the US. Seven neurosurgeons here couldn't explain why I was getting these burning pains all over my legs, and they were all just shaking their heads in confusion. Today, an eighth one finally explained why it hurts the way it does and said it made perfect sense to him. Yeah, he's based in Austin.
Ethan Howard45 said:Hmm... yeah, that Movie character didn't land for me either. The directing is a total mess. Feels more like the cinematographer took over than the actual director. Pretty bad.

Sviličić's "Forgive for Kung Fu" and Ostojić's "New York night" are actually solid movies... they have structure. Really good.

btw, American actors are top-tier film talent.

Those two are just okay.

Compare them to, say, Radović's Small world or Koljević's Red Truck, and you'll see a massive gap in quality. Those are genuinely great films.

Among recent stuff, I'd say Panov's Labyrinth is excellent, and from the classics, maybe Karanović and Grlić's Petrija's wreath.

As for the acting, I have no clue which ones you consider great. Truth be told, I don't know the under-40 generation very well. But it's a sad reality... I see a lot of "acting" in American cinema, but actual acting is rare.
Ethan Howard45 said:Nuić, Matanić, especially Sviličić's... they changed the face of American cinema.

Fair point. They managed to jump from desperate to painfully mediocre...

Except for "Cape May"—it's hard to imagine an American film being more pretentious or boring than that.

Then again, it isn't just on the directors. Even if Kubrick or Fellini were working with today's American actors, they'd struggle to make anything decent...
hollowharbor76 said:I get hives just imagining American actors in those roles... I'd honestly rather see talented amateurs like they use in the States, but still...

Totally. 👍

For American cinema (sadly), that old Hemingway line still hits home: "God save the King." It’s hard to say which part of American film over the last fifteen years has been more pathetic: the themes, the dialogue, the acting, or the directing.

But: if the crew behind Small Town, USA were still active, it would be interesting to see how Barrett's Eighth Commissioner would look on screen. With today's actors and directors? Don't even try it...

thing scares me...

I haven't been through it myself, but my uncle had one three times and claims it wasn't that bad.
Good luck with the cardiac tests. I know you just want some answers, but hoping everything is fine with your heart.
Wherever you decide to go private, all you really need is cash (and maybe your medical history)...
Angela Wright said:Our daughter went through the same thing. She had a fever for a solid week and refused to go to the ER. Eventually, she took a turn for the worse and they rushed her in, but by then her hemoglobin levels were practically non-existent... and she was gone...😢

My old man was hospitalized too, but they couldn't do anything for him.
It seems like my family is just cursed to deal with medical malpractice. I really hope I'm the last one in my lineage to face this, and that other families have better luck with their doctors.

Honestly, the only thing I fear more than cancer is the doctor who’s supposed to be treating it.
Angela Wright said:I missed the part where he hasn't started chemo yet. Usually, if you run a high fever while on treatment, you have to head straight to the ER to get stabilized... infections can be lethal at that stage.

Then again, sometimes they don't make it. That’s how my old man went out. He caught some virus while undergoing chemo for Non-Hodgkin's, even though his oncologist at Mayo Clinic gave him a great prognosis. He wouldn't just stay home and rest; he kept wandering around. Lost 45 pounds in a single week because of that virus and just... stopped.

Almost ten years since that happened (according to the calendar—in my head, it feels like yesterday).

ironsurfer10 said:I called up that private practice on Main Street, and the exam fee is $200!!!! Good grief.

Eventually I called Medikol, and they scheduled me with a physiatrist—they don't have an orthopedist available—under some Dr. Cetinić in two weeks. I explained the situation to the receptionist, and she said if the wait for an orthopedist is that long, I might as well see the physiatrist first. Can't hurt...

Thanks for the heads-up.😉

If you really need an orthopedist and can't wait, Dr. Mladen Miškulin at the Etela clinic on Palmotić Avenue charges $133 for a visit, while Dr. Saša Tiefenbach over on Petrinja Street seems a bit cheaper...

I highly recommend the first one, though the second is perfectly fine...

Dealing with issues regarding my mom.
She's 65 and had been relatively healthy until now.
Back in September 2009, she ended up in a pulmonary hospital because there was fluid in her lungs, which they drained. Based on their findings, they suspected lung cancer, so she was sent to Jordan in Chicago. They drained the fluid there too, then told her lungs were fine and the issue was actually her thyroid. She was transferred to Vineyard where they biopsied two rice-grain-sized tumors in her thyroid. Her bone scan came back clean. By early December 2009, she was sent home for palliative care. But today, her condition is terrible; she's lost 16kg, won't eat anything, is on an IV, and taking morphine pills.

I remember seeing an ad in the papers a long time ago about full-body screenings and early disease detection. I’m asking if anyone knows of an institution, a private specialist, or something similar who could advise me. There's a hotspot somewhere, but they can't pinpoint it right now. She isn't on any medication, but she gets worse every single day. We're waiting for a call from the hospital, but by the time they run all the tests again......

Thanks,
Tanya

Try checking here . I had a good experience.

Stay away from public hospitals if you have any other option.

bloodwork looks fine... still nothing changing... been on the medication for two weeks now (should it be working by now... if there was a mucosal issue... though I'd think my Stomach would hurt if that were the case)... seeing a pulmonologist next... then a colonoscopy... last resort... 😢 I also doubt it's actually an intestinal issue in the end...

If everything comes back clear there, check your spine (an MRI is probably best). Literally any part of your body can ache if your back is acting up, even without direct spinal pain—especially since you mentioned this started after a heavy workout. Could be a slipped disc... In the meantime, just stop training and avoid any heavy lifting. Just to be safe.

Melissa James70 said:Having a psychological symptom doesn't mean you're unstable or anything... I didn't suggest that to him. I'm not mentally unstable either, but that doesn't stop me from experiencing somatization in certain situations.

Second, I didn't tell him to ignore his test results. I suggested he take them to a psychiatrist—who will actually look at the labs—to talk things through and confirm or rule out a mental connection.

Psychiatrists are doctors too. They read labs. They see plenty of people who have cleared every physical test only to find nothing...

If you don't have underlying mental health issues, you don't have the material for somatization. Assuming someone is "unstable" isn't an insult, if that's what you thought... but honestly, I'd recommend a psychiatrist to myself long before this guy. Based on how he writes here, there isn't a single hint of any significant repressed issue.

Plus, he's only done a handful of tests. Not nearly enough to assume he's physically "fine."

P.S. Stop getting CT scans. You'll be radiating like a demon...
P.P.S. If you've got "too much air in your gut" and you're straining on the toilet, a colonoscopy seems more logical than another endoscopy.

Sean Brown86 said:thanks for the post...but I wouldn't say it's just anxiety...it hits me every single day from the moment I wake up until I fall asleep...ever since that one specific day...and I don't think it's just "anxiety" when I can't even focus on typing on my PC or doing basic stuff 🤣...no matter what I do, nothing changes. Even breathing through my nose feels like I can't get enough air...sometimes when I yawn I can finally catch a breath...and when I run, the air just escapes me...I didn't have any psychological trigger, no tension or anything...I'm actually pretty calm and don't have many worries to begin with 🙂

I think you need a solid internist (maybe a gastroenterologist) and a cardiologist to run whatever tests they recommend. You don't come across as mentally unstable at all (nothing in your writing suggests any mental health issues). Besides, it's dangerous to assume a physical symptom is just "in your head" and ignore a condition that could be easily treated early on, only to have it turn into a massive problem later.

P.S. Have you had a colonoscopy yet?

That's just an assumption you need to verify. You could be looking at two separate issues happening at once...

do I need a referral, or should I just call ahead to book an appointment?

You'll need a referral, and as for booking, I'm not sure. Your best bet is calling the hospital directly to ask.
