This is easily Scorsese's worst work since Goodfellas. He usually doesn't waste screen time on filler roles, but this time he threw in Diaz's character just to give Leo someone to hook up with. So instead, I spent two and a half hours stuck watching the Cameron Diaz-Leo gnome bickering, Day-Lewis's overacting and constant whining, a totally forced romance, and some obnoxious Irish characters harassing decent people with their nonsense about potato blights and whatnot. It’s a shame because the most interesting parts—like the Draft Riots—only get about twenty minutes of actual attention. Honestly, that original idea for a five-hour epic probably would have made more sense, if anyone actually had the patience to sit through it.

Basically, you get a brilliant intro and a solid final twenty minutes, but that's it. For a genius like Scorsese, the rest feels empty and thin. That forced, unnecessary love story completely tanked the movie, yet Scorsese (or maybe the producers at Miramax) gave it way too much runtime. Such a waste, because this could have been a masterpiece.👎

It’s not bad. It’s a long one—clocking in at about 167 minutes—and while some of the actors are absolute powerhouses like Day-Lewis, I thought DiCaprio’s performance was pretty rough😢

The plot holds up well enough, even if Day-Lewis felt off to me. The rest of the cast did a great job, making it a solid watch despite a few hiccups

What did you guys think? Has anyone actually sat through this one yet?

Man in a Tuxedo:

Hold on, hold on... Let's start from the top with this heavy metal track titled "Man in a Tuxedo"...
In the northern skies, she shows off her gorgeous curves
dancing the tango and kissing his forehead with passion,
crying and Viking-style while licking his thumb....
and kissing his brow... The beauty curves beckon...
The flyer on the BioActiv CD wipes his glasses and brushes his forehead with her silhouette,
chorus:
forehead, forehead.... tannnn forehead.... 4X
The brainiac DVD player eats leaves
while the man in a tuxedo stares at the blood-red sky, sipping a macchiato
and banging his sword against his head...
chorus:
forehead, forehead..... tannnn forehead.... 4X

Yeah, that’s probably when we either can't bring ourselves to face the truth or just flat-out refuse to see it for what it is. It's those moments when, for whatever reason, we just can't bear to look ourselves in the mirror.

Are we talking mystical summoning, some weird bat-themed cooking, or full-on shapeshifting? 😁

I thought the movie was decent. Every character is weird and twisted, which is cool, but they aren't exactly hilarious on their own. Honestly, I couldn't quite figure out who the target audience is supposed to be. Is this for kids, adults, or just indie film buffs? You could compare New York City to The Bandits, though the latter is definitely the better flick. It’s been a long time since I last saw it, so maybe my take isn't totally spot on 🙄
Anyway, I'd still love to give it another watch...

Leg and foot cramps: Any advice? in Health ·
Casey Palmer5 said:We’ve actually touched on this before. Are you sure you're staying hydrated enough? Muscle cramps can definitely be a sign of dehydration. When you're running low on fluids, it throws off your electrolyte balance, which is a huge trigger for cramping. You really want to keep an eye on your potassium, sodium, and calcium levels.

And don't forget magnesium 🙂

That’s a great question—one that really forces you to pause and think. If we’re actually kind to ourselves, we’ll be able to spot that exact moment when obsessively chasing something unattainable—or something that just isn't happening right now—starts turning into self-destruction. That’s your signal to step back, even if it's just to catch your breath or pivot toward a smarter way to get where you want to go. It all comes down to energy management. When you're hyper-fixated on grabbing an external goal, you lose your inner focus and sense of balance, which just causes your energy to bleed out uncontrollably. You have to learn how to pull the plug before you hit total burnout. It’s about respecting your own boundaries and, ultimately, respecting yourself. No goal is ever worth tearing yourself apart over.

Sometimes you just have to let go. Surrender everything. Let it all end.

Only then can you truly be reborn. 😉 🙂
What does our music taste say about us? in Music ·
Beyond just the aesthetic vibes, music hits you right on a psychological level. What we choose to listen to really comes down to the specific emotions we’re trying to stir up within ourselves. Does someone need to be some kind of weirdo to dig Burzum? By definition, Black metal is meant to sound ugly and sinister, and Burzum definitely fits that mold. Listening to it doesn't mean you're actually a bad or unpleasant person, but it does mean you probably want to tap into that darkness, even if it's just for a moment. There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about that.

The Atkins diet is an incredible way to absolutely wreck your kidneys.

👍

All these cookie-cutter diets are total nonsense because everyone’s body reacts differently.
You really need to find a healthy lifestyle that works specifically for YOU.

I might actually agree with the idea that players like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci kind of kill the spirit of the electric guitar with their sterile perfectionism (take the blues, for example, with someone like Gary Moore). It’s wild how they—and their endless tablature—have basically brainwashed entire generations of kids. These kids have one single goal: cram as many notes as possible into a timeframe while blinding everyone with a massive wall of effects. Unfortunately, when you drop one of these technically advanced but fundamentally shallow players into a band where they’re supposed to nail a solid riff or provide subtle, tight, smart rhythm work between solos, they just fall apart. You can't put a donkey in an astronaut suit and expect it to fly. There are some old recordings of Jimi Hendrix playing acoustic that beautifully show how even as a raw kid, he understood the soul of the instrument. That was long before the Woodstock era, setting guitars on fire and smashing amps. There was another trio whose music was technically masterful, but at the same time
full of pure soul—Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Larry Coryell...
Sadly, many of my guitar heroes have long since passed on, while a few legends are still out there tearing up the stage (like Ry Cooder or Santana). I guess what I'm trying to say is that every era has its own idols, its own sound, and its own set of values. That said, I wouldn't completely write off those modern shredders or their followers either. Not everyone is looking to play Honky Tonk Women, Bluesbreakers, or Purple Haze. Besides, Rock and Roll has been circling the drain for a long time—the real question is whether it even exists anymore.
Hideous Kinky (starring Kate Winslet)
What an interesting story, and that photo is stunning... Plus, Kate is a total knockout...

K-Pax (Kevin Spacey & Jeff Bridges)
It's a great movie, sci-fi I think... I didn't even realize Kevin Spacey had already picked up two Oscars??!! Not that it matters, just saying.

If you're deciding between these two—pick one if you want to see Kate, and pick the other if you're looking for a unique plot.
Either way, I’d recommend both.
