ninocka said:I'm looking to catch a movie for a friend's birthday. Should I go for this one or *Catch Me If You Can*? What do you guys think?

Well, look, if you’re a fan of Steven Spielberg, you’ll probably have a blast.

But if he isn't really your style? Honestly, you'll just be bored out of your mind. You'll find yourself rolling your eyes at every single overly sentimental scene—you know, the kind of stuff that's so cliché it's almost an insult to God—and you'll spend most of the runtime staring longingly at the exit sign, wondering what better movie is playing in the theater next door.

(Side note: Do I personally like Steven Spielberg? That’s a loaded question.)
Catch Me If You Can in Movies ·
Man, out of a 140-minute runtime, there were at least 120 minutes where I was just dying for them to finally catch that damn Leo!
The funny thing is, Leo wasn't even the worst part of this movie. Spielberg managed to cram every single tired emotional cliché imaginable into one film.
For starters, Leo didn't turn into a con artist because of some deep-seated trauma from his parents' divorce; he did it because he’s just a naturally crafty piece of work. That whole "it's not your fault" bit and the overly dramatic "emotional" run down the street? Total eye-roll territory. And that subplot about Hanks' family? Same thing. The movie tries way too hard to force this sentimentality that just isn't earned. Believe it or not, an FBI agent and a con man aren't supposed to be buddies.

I'm done talking about this movie—long story short (if you can even call it a movie), it was pathetic!

Hmm, if she's your sister and only 9 years old... then you definitely need to wish her a happy birthday! When I was around her age, I was busy listening to the Backstreet Boys 😲 😳 😢

Honestly, I don't think the movie will have much of an impact on her. If anything, it might actually inspire her by showing that "hard work and pure grit can actually lead to success in life." 🙄

khhm. So, I'm getting ready to drag the kids to the theater (I don't really get this whole Eminem mania sweeping through the elementary schools, but hey, whatever...) because they're insisting on it. It makes me wonder, though—is this movie actually appropriate for an elementary schooler? To be blunt, is there any explicit stuff, violence, heavy swearing... or anything like that?

Listen, Christian Sanchez44, if we start making rules like that, are kids going to demand soccer practice instead of math class if you don't let them see a movie? 🙂
Besides, swearing has never actually killed anyone, right? Surely you remember some of those classic old-school curses from back in the day. 😁

I mean, the whole plot is basically 🙄

And if I listen to my buddy, the movie is total trash. Then again, that guy isn't exactly a huge fan of Eminem, so... we shall see.
Erm... you got a little worked up when someone played that Islamic track, claiming it only gets under your skin when it’s being pushed by some hardcore Religious Fanatic (not that I have any love for them either—I actually used to call a girl I was crushing on a Religious Fanatic just to make sure she knew she wasn't perfect 🙂). So, by your own logic, that song should only annoy you if it were being belted out by a die-hard believer. But it wasn't.

Rade would probably rather listen to Middle Eastern noise than Western garbage like boy bands or some "I've never been naughty" pop starlet
It’s pretty obvious you haven’t actually watched the music video for that "ultra-religious" track 😁
I mean, one of the main guys in it is this Indian dude who looks exactly like John Travolta—can you even guess three times why that's significant?
In my school, the group in charge of the intercom is basically a bunch of hippies, and honestly? It was a total blessing the day they enrolled. They play music that is damn good without being some pretentiously underground stuff—just the other day I was listening and heard Red Hot Chili Peppers followed by... well, you'll recognize us by The Dandy Warhols. Truly brilliant 👍

Ryan Ruiz, you’re just coming off as ignorant and full of hate. Look, saying you hate an entire religion is like claiming every single American is exactly the same. Muslims aren't the Borg; they don't all share one collective brain. It's a thousand completely different individuals, each with their own mind, heart, and everything else. By throwing these hateful outbursts, you're just looking foolish, which I know isn't your intention. Try opening your eyes once in a while; you'll see that being a good person isn't tied to your religion or where you were born.
When I was 16? in Music ·
I’ve got nothing against those seventh and eighth graders who swear Nirvana, Sex Pistols, Metallica, Maiden—you name it—is the greatest band to ever exist.

It’d be nice if they actually had some taste, but let’s be real: today's middle schoolers are strictly about that techno life, and the absolute peak of their musical evolution is just listening to nu-metal. 🙄 🙄

And honestly, you can't just hear one single song and decide a band is the greatest of all time. That’s just common sense.

Honestly, that whole tragedy just feels completely hollow without any real justification or a point behind it.

Look, Carl Bennett78, the thing is, these kinds of senseless tragedies actually happen in real life. The film illustrates how one single catastrophe can absolutely wreck a perfect life, yet in the end, they manage to pull through and show that life moves on regardless. At least, that’s how I see it—but hey, everyone’s entitled to their own take on a film. My opinion on this movie isn't going to change just because the lead actor has a habit of winning awards. Take Roman Polanski, for example. The guy is a heroin addict who assaulted a minor—basically a total lunatic—but that doesn't mean his films aren't good.

Everything seems perfect on paper, doesn't it? Just flawless. 😉

As far as Thompson goes, I didn't really notice him singing all those tracks back in the early 90s. It’s more like he’s just shouting them from the rooftops in 2003, acting all proud while his security detail has to shield him from everyone—from angry crowds to the damn reporters. 😕

And honestly, after everything Lino Cervar has pulled off, I think he’s earned the right to laugh in the faces of anyone who used to look down on him. The fact that he isn't out there spewing hate toward Dzomba or Smajlagica just proves he isn't some radical extremist. As for his comments about "true Americans"? Well, maybe you and he just have a different definition of what being a true American actually means.
Our guys earned themselves this kind of welcome 👍

Honestly, I’ve endured just about every musical crime imaginable while waiting for the handball players to show up. Mad respect to them, though, especially when you consider the 👎 absolute parade of Krusk and Barun types trying to ride their coattails to boost their own nonexistent talent.
Who actually cares about the "why" behind feeling this good? Honestly, besides everything else going on, I’m just riding this high because I’m genuinely happy for those guys.

Alc, you’re lucky you weren't around after the Argentina game, or that sea devil would have absolutely finished you off 🙂

Seriously, how many times do I have to say it: the Germans don't stand a chance. If I were eighteen again, I would have put $67 on a straight-up win for the Americans!

Timothy Cox2, you're absolutely right, I completely blanked on the fact that he actually directed the Movie. My bad.

As for that whole thing about the Zrinski-Frankopan dynasty, honestly, it’s hands down the most boring book I’ve ever picked up. Total snooze fest.

Honestly, the Germans don't stand a chance against us. They’re going to drown trying to break through our defense; they won't be able to do a thing. I watched them play against Tunis and the South, and frankly, they just aren't all that impressive. Sure, Kretschmar pulls off something flashy every now and then, and Schwarzer is decent enough, but they're easily two tiers below our level. We're the best on this stage, and we're taking home the gold!

Timothy Cox2, you aren't acting alongside Sean Penn in this movie; you're talking about that actress with the last name Penn who starred in Terms of Endearment, though I can't quite recall her name right now.

I’ll be the first to admit I was bashing them at the start. I honestly thought they were just a bunch of arrogant idiots who didn't give a damn about the national team. But now? I’m officially eating my words.

Goluza was the quintessential captain. Whenever things got ugly and the pressure mounted, he was the one stepping up to take the heat and delivering when it counted.

Dzomba finally found his rhythm, too. Scoring three goals during overtime right when we needed them most? That was huge.

Balic had a rough go of it for most of the game, but man, did he turn it around with those three consecutive strikes in the final overtime period.

And let's not forget Caleb. He pulled off two massive plays—stealing the ball and setting up Balica for that goal in the second half, then burying the final shot when it was vital to hold onto possession (which, let's face it, would have been botched otherwise).

Lino Cervar really pulled this squad together. He took a group of individuals and forged them into a genuine, cohesive unit.

Massive 🙏
to them and everyone else involved.

Timothy Cox2 said:I haven't gotten around to watching The Pledge yet, but last year I checked out the original version based on the book by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. It's called It Happened in Broad Daylight from 1958, and it's widely considered one of the best American films from that era. Highly recommend it.
redowl90: Unfortunately, I still haven't seen Terms of Endearment.

I actually watched The Pledge, and honestly? It didn't do much for me. The plot just felt totally unbelievable. :\
