So sorry for your loss,
Terry Lopez18 what can I even say about this: RIP
Look, I used to think I was untouchable too—full macho mode at 62 years old, feeling like I could take on the world. I was healthy, fit, work was booming, everything was just top-tier. Then, out of nowhere, life just hit me like a freight train without any warning. It’s a wake-up call, man. Just trust that everything happens when it’s supposed to; sometimes the body just flips its own internal circuit breakers to keep you from blowing a fuse entirely.
I would totally write you something more, but nica just laid down the law on me, though I still think
Brain MRI at Mayo Clinic in Health ·
Honestly, you guys should just be glad you don't have to rush through your scans. I managed to show up on the third day even with a terminal diagnosis hanging over my head, and now that things have actually taken a turn for the better—which, let’s face it, is always a total crapshoot—I'm just chilling until late 2017. No stress, no rushing. If they decide to call me earlier, I'll be there within 20 minutes tops.
Bee 88, you totally forgot about that little rubber squeeze ball the technician handed you. Most people walk out feeling completely disoriented with bloodshot eyes, especially if you've been over at the Salad place dealing with how intense those magnets are.
Angela Wright said:Honestly, your best bet is just calling the center directly to get the lowdown.

Just a little heads-up here—the more you know, the better you can prep, right? Get ready for a long haul, probably looking at somewhere between 10 to 12 months of waiting around until the prosthetics center actually calls you in. And seriously, make sure you bring absolutely everything—every single scrap of paperwork you have. Also, the person who actually filed the claim has to be there in person; they explicitly state that in the notification.
Robin Diaz4 said:I was just sitting here thinking today—my dad’s been home for the last week or so, and honestly, I’m lucky enough to be self-employed, so I can work from my laptop or just take a breather if things get crazy. But man, how do people actually pull this off when they don't have that kind of flexibility? My dad’s energy levels are all over the place; one day he’s steady enough to face the world, and the next, even just getting up to hit the bathroom wipes him out. It makes me wonder: what happens if there’s a moment where nobody can be there with him? I mean, hopefully that won't happen, but life is unpredictable, right? These thoughts are just looping in my head today, because if I hadn't been home right now, the mere thought of being away would have terrified me...
Basically, is there some kind of service for this, or do I need to hire someone privately? How does that even work? Is there such a thing as calling a medical professional to come by when needed—like, I pay them for their time, but they aren't living with us, maybe just visiting a couple times a month? Or am I just talking nonsense?

Look, after reading what you wrote, I realized that unless you have immediate family around, you're pretty much on your own—aside from the fact that every local health department has home health nursing services available.
If you're looking for actual medical pros, give "Zorica" a call. I really hate being an advertisement for people, but I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

Look, you made some good points, but you’ve gotta get way more specific if you want actual help. I know you’re probably trying to avoid naming names, but you need to lay it all out on the table—what exactly are you looking for? Are we talking about a primary residence where you'll actually live year-round, or just some vacation spot you'll hit for maybe two months a year? Do you want a place with a decent yard to mess around in, a townhouse, or a standalone house tucked away somewhere quiet? And are we thinking urban living in a place like Chicago or something else entirely? You also haven't even touched on the build itself—are you hunting for something move-in ready, or a fixer-upper that'll break your heart? Give me the details on materials too, like whether you're leaning towards classic brick, stone, concrete, or whatever else might be out there.
Robin Diaz4 said:My dad still seems okay physically, he’ll eat whatever I bring him, but those nutritional shakes just aren't working. I tried to talk him into forcing himself to drink one today, but he just told me he can't and that the smell makes him want to gag, so I didn't push it—I know him well enough to know he really would throw up from the nausea. Honestly, I even tried a little trick where you take a sip, then the other person takes a sip, just to see if I could handle it, and man, I felt sick just thinking about it now.
I’m totally lost here, is there anything else tasty that could replace those shakes?
Getting a second opinion, or at least consulting with another doctor, really helped ease my guilt because it feels like we aren't doing anything wrong... at this point, it's all on Dad and how his body decides to react to the chemo. 🙂

Once I actually became aware of everything and started eating again, I realized those shakes were pretty gross too, so maybe try finding the ones in the cartons instead
they taste
different.

Look, I woke up having dropped like 80 pounds, and basically lived on shakes for a while. Vanilla was gross, chocolate was just okay, but those banana ones in the cartons? Man, those were the winner. Avoid the ones in the plastic bottles though, they didn't sit right with me at all. Give 'em a shot if you need to.
Rachel Williams maybe, but I realized my guests were totally just putting on an act for me. One would be laughing while the other just sat there dead silent, both of them pretending everything was fine, and I just ended up nodding along because, well, you know how doctors always say, "everyone reacts differently."

So, I went out and picked up two masks today at 75 cents a pop, and honestly, I feel a hell of a lot safer now—not just for my own sake, but for everyone else out there too. It's about looking out for the community, you know?
Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and ICU: Q&A in Health ·
Honestly, anesthesia has come such a long way lately. We’re talking full-blown general anesthesia these days—it doesn't even matter what kind of surgery you're having. That’s exactly what went down with my hernia repair. You wake up feeling absolutely hammered, totally argumentative, and just plain offended at everything. Plus, trying to pee for the first time after that? A complete nightmare. I managed to get back on my feet within about four hours by basically doing heavy breathing exercises, bracing my diaphragm like I was hitting a heavy set at the gym, and then twenty-three hours later, they sent me home with a massive 25 cm scar thanks to those abdominal surgeons and the anesthesiologists. I was actually expecting local anesthesia, but honestly, this turned out better because you don't have to listen to the surgeons rambling on, or so my roommate tells me.
Corns on my feet in Health ·
I mean, I honestly don't get how you aren't in total agony right now. If something actually snapped or tore in that joint, you’d be screaming, so seriously, go see a doctor at the Mayo Clinic or something before it gets worse.
Sea spider bite in Health ·
Yeah, just hang tight, it’ll pass. Honestly, whenever I’m out fishing, I always end up getting some damn spider stuck on my net, so I usually just smear some thick grease over it so I don't step on the thing, then I use some sharp pliers to pick the hooks off. I even carry around one of those cheap lighters I picked up at a local corner store—you know, the ones you can basically use as a blowtorch if you really need to.
I mean, it’s basically yours unless you and the neighbors reach some kind of deal, right?
So, if you're standing there just looking out at the street, is that fence on your left or your right?

There’s really just one way this ends: you gotta pay up.
Sea spider bite in Health ·
I’m not talking about just warming it up, I mean you gotta sear it until it hurts—honestly, I might just use my lighter as a blowtorch for that effect. Pretty sure three hours have already slipped by.
