School Reform: Thoughts? in Students & Teens ·
Some guy who teaches Latin to middle schoolers told me they dive straight into declensions by 5th grade. Back home in the US, kids don't even touch that stuff until the second half of the year, and then the teacher spends two whole hours just trying to explain what a declension actually is.

It’s the same story elsewhere. I’m working on atomic structure for chemistry, but in physics class, they don't even cover that until 4th grade.

Then there's pH levels. We're doing that in 2nd grade, which requires logarithms—but they don't teach those until February. I'm expected to master it by October.

And honestly? That's just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of other gems like that.

I did some digging, and apparently, this total lack of coordination between subjects is still happening under the new curriculum and the "School for Life" initiative.🤦

Sarah Hall53 said:You want to hear something truly ironic? A massive amount of this stuff just gets ignored or swept under the rug—mostly because nobody wants to give the people in charge a headache with extra paperwork, or because they’re terrified the school system will look bad.
But honestly, the Department of Education couldn't care less, since on paper, the numbers aren't moving.
With this new nightmare of a regulation—and I'm talking about a title that’s twenty-six words long—even the stats are going to tank. See, for every single behavioral issue, the teacher ends up stuck with six months of extra administrative work before and after class. So, the number of "disciplinary measures" will plummet, just like the number of failing grades will drop once they implement that after-school program meant to punish any "bad" teachers who dare to actually fail a student.

+ And let's not forget how they wipe all the disciplinary records clean at the start of every new school year, basically hitting a reset button so everything looks perfect again. 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 🤦

SCHOOLS ARE FINALLY GETTING TOUGH ON DISCIPLINE If kids don't listen after a warning, they're getting sent to mandatory counseling. And if parents try to block that? They’ll be reported to Child Protective Services.

The exact same thing happened over at that school near Voltaic.

Creed II (2018) in Movies ·
So, Sylvester Stallone dropped a hint this Wednesday that he might finally be hanging up the gloves for good when it comes to playing Rocky Balboa, a role he’s carried through seven different movies.

"Sadly, everything has to end eventually," Stallone wrote alongside an Instagram clip he posted on Wednesday, just a week after Creed II hit theaters here in the States.

"This is probably my last rodeo. What happened... I never saw it coming," the 73-year-old actor said in the video.

"I honestly thought I was done with Rocky back in 2006 and I was totally cool with that, but then suddenly this young guy (Michael B. Jordan) shows up and the whole story shifts."

Stallone's character, Balboa, showed up in six films in the Rocky series—the last one being back in 2006—before making a comeback in Creed: Rise of Legend in 2015, where he took on the role of trainer for the lead, Adonis Johnson, played by Jordan.

Back in 2016, this role actually landed Stallone his first Golden Globe, forty years after he was originally nominated as a screenwriter for the very first movie in '76.

Dreams of Tomorrow: School of the Future, a documentary series

We all want our kids to go to the best schools out there—places that actually spark their curiosity, make them want to learn, pack in the tech skills, and sharpen their brains so they aren't totally lost when they hit the real world. The world isn't standing still, and we seriously need to rethink how our entire education system works. Get this: about 65% of kids in preschool today are going to end up in jobs that haven't even been invented yet. So, what does school look like in 2050? How is the digital revolution going to flip the script on learning? What’s left for teachers to do? And will students eventually just run the show themselves? In this episode, we're diving into how the digital age is reshaping classrooms, how collaborative learning works, the shift away from physical textbooks, and how school buildings are being redesigned to fit the way people actually learn now...

Hey guys

Is it actually okay—like, safe—to lightly wipe down my laptop keys using a flame fueled by alcohol?

I know, I know, this sounds like a total moron question, but I’m genuinely terrified of frying my hardware and figured I’d ask before I do something stupid.

I get that you can basically toss a desktop keyboard in the trash if it breaks, but this is my laptop, and I really don't want to end up buying a whole new machine because I tried to be "clean."

thanks

- Her reasoning? The plastic one is just STUPID.

We don't exactly keep glassware in the bathroom here (much to her intense disapproval), so I got her a slightly different plastic cup to replace the old one—one that clearly isn't "stupid."
🤣🤣🤣

Fair point, but let's just wait until we actually see what happens in the plot before we decide if it sucks or not.

The US government just announced they're extending temporary border controls until February because of security concerns.

"There’s still a legitimate threat to public order and national security," the administration stated.

The US first implemented these kinds of measures back in late 2015. That was the year we saw a massive surge in asylum claims—around 163,000—which basically broke the system and overwhelmed local municipalities and processing centers.

According to the official report, the decision to keep the borders tight also stems from intelligence assessments by the FBI and general anxiety over how the entire European Union manages its external borders.

The administration pointed out that other Schengen area members like Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Norway have all recently stepped up their own border controls too.

hiddendriver34 said:Give me a break! Four years of general education? You really think that’s actually feasible?

The pressure comes from society. The old way was actually more humane because it told a fourteen-year-old kid that their life wasn't set in stone at that exact moment and that all doors were still wide open.

The new system basically points a finger and tells them exactly where they belong, and if they want a change, they're on their own to "pull themselves out." The system isn't going to lend a hand.

Honestly, I still don't get why focusing solely on a trade without any general subjects would even take three years. A program like that should realistically only last one year day.

In the States, we don't have those weird three or four-year vocational tracks. It's basically twelve years of school like everywhere else, and then if you actually want to become a glazier, you just go apprentice under a pro who can teach you the ropes in six months.

firstly, things just look clearer on the white ones because those green tiles feel like they've been sitting around since the colonial era—all scratched up, greasy, and covered in lines.
secondly, considering those old chalkboards date back even further than that, they're just so incredibly gross; there's so much dust, hair, and grime embedded in them that just looking at one might give you contact dermatitis, and getting too close could probably trigger asthma.
thirdly, on a more personal note, I'd rather not have sandpaper for skin on my hands, so I suppose I'd prefer having a marker in my hand instead of dealing with chalk.🙂

but hey, I mean, I'll settle for the green ones if I absolutely have to, assuming we get some decent chalk and maybe upgrade to some modern chalkboards.🙏

and speaking of history and glassblowers, the Secretary of Education mentioned how much history matters to the glassblowing trade. okay, I can see her point to an extent, I suppose.
but then in the very next breath, she suggested that the history professors at that vocational school would have to drop general history entirely just so they could teach exclusively the history of glassblowing😲 🤣 🤦
yeah. that's clearly a matter of extreme life-and-death importance.
general history versus the history of glassblowing.🙂

so, that's the kind of "reform" she's talking about.🤦

I highly doubt anyone would actually spend two years studying the history of glassblowing.

I mean, where is everything else??🤦

Facts. I work at a local school where we barely have enough chemicals to run two decent experiments, let alone show kids how a real reaction works. Of course, there’s zero budget for actual lab equipment or supplies, as per usual.🤦
