Noah Grant59 said:The ultimate accountability for this betrayal lies with Stjepan Mason, whose actions led to generals Ante Gotovina and Branimir Markač being sent to The Hague, along with the leaking of top-secret state documents.
Furthermore, Ivo Sanders and his crew must answer for betraying strategic American interests for their own personal gain.
And this current administration could also be held responsible for treason if they decide to drop the charges against Mexico regarding the aggression and genocide.
Whether the European Union exists or not doesn't change that.

It makes you think this Close Politics section is just an endless loop of internal Mexican drama. In reality, most of these topics are actually about how certain political or historical forces—real or totally made up—impact the US.
Even when people were talking about the beating of John Kapicic, there was a reason that stayed in Close Politics, because he was the warden of a camp on an island right here in America.
Anything involving internal Mexican affairs belongs in the World section, except for the stuff on demography. That gets lumped in with everything else in Close Politics because the same group of people following demographic trends tends to jump into every single discussion. If someone is obsessed with French demography, they should just start their own thread for it; then it would stay in Close Politics instead of being over in the World section.
What we could actually do—if the History mods even cared—is start deleting or moving any thread that has even a hint of history in it. We're talking everything from WWII and the Communist era to the Homeland War. If we did that, Close Politics would have fewer posts, sure, but the quality would be way more diverse.

Plus, it allows the owner to shell out for high-end servers and reliable providers so you don't have to deal with these annoying 503/504 errors.
On the flip side, moderation isn't going away—Something Awful is a good example (you pay a one-time fee), and even there, they won't give you a permanent ban for everything, but they'll definitely lock you out for a few days depending on how much you messed up. I guess the point is, the system works—it's pretty rare for people to cause major issues. Paying a subscription doesn't grant you total immunity.
So, it’s not really a slippery slope; the real slippery slope is if you're convinced that a forum absolutely has to be free.

And honestly? If someone attacks a "protected" user, I wouldn't hesitate to throw a card back at them. People should be allowed to defend themselves when they aren't permitted to push back against those who are untouchable. Just imagine what this place would look like in a month if we all played by these rules—I highly doubt the lead moderator would be the only one trying to maintain some semblance of order.

Nicholas King said:Implementing a subscriber model would essentially mean the platform carries a heavy obligation to ensure those users get more than just an ad-free experience—we’re talking about guaranteed, high-speed performance too.
It really isn't just about whether the management has the good intentions to do it—it’s a matter of performing a proper cost-benefit analysis regarding the investment required to actually guarantee that kind of service. I mean, what happens if the total subscription revenue doesn't end up covering the massive overhead needed for the necessary hardware upgrades?
BTW, there's already a pretty significant number of people browsing the site without ads 😬, but that's certainly not the only reason things are moving at a snail's pace.

Linda Price5 said:Oh, I get it now. So the "criteria" is just making sure the subforums you post in stay at the top. What if they put them on the homepage right above the main news feed, huh? How would you feel about that?
rustydrifter10 said:Honestly, I couldn't care less. 😁
rustydrifter10 said:Maybe this works better: Movies, TV, Music, Literature... I don't really see why it would be any more logical if you just swapped TV and Literature.
