Forum talk should actually feel like how we talk in real life. Like the intro said, when you get into a heated debate—especially among people who have known each other for a while—the occasional curse word or a slip-up like calling someone an "idiot" happens. It’s not always meant maliciously; sometimes it’s just part of the flow and helps keep the conversation lively.

That sounds great until people start hitting the report button. Then you'll just be drowning in complaints from folks saying, "He called me a moron, and we aren't even buddies."

Emily Roberts48 said:It would also be great to have a dedicated space for venting (within reasonable limits, obviously). It would make the forum a much better place. 🙂
Right now, things feel a little too sterile and unnatural.

But what exactly counts as "reasonable"? 🙂

quietcyclist33 said:Upgrading would cost us a fortune, and honestly, they haven't even fixed that bug yet. In my opinion, vB 3 was actually the peak of the software.
The problem is vB 3 is such a dinosaur now that plugin support is basically dead—most of them have been pulled entirely, so you can't even use them anymore...

Also, just a heads-up: if you're ignoring someone in real life while still talking to them, they can still hear you. It’s the same thing here. You might be ignoring them, but they aren't ignoring you; they're still reading everything you write.

That’s not even a bug, though. This whole "ignore" logic has been baked into almost every forum since the early days. The only real difference is that some modern modules allow for a total blackout—meaning you won't even see their posts if they try to quote you.

That said, I wish it were just a hair more goofy; it feels a bit too serious at times, even with those funny comedic undertones. It hits a few clichés, sure, but there are enough fresh ideas here to make it a solid binge-watch.
The acting is great, too. The lead actor actually reminds me a bit of Eric Bana.

Highly recommended! Personally, I think it deserves better than a 7.

More goofy about how they get their fuel? From what I've read, they're already prepping a sequel, which I am all for. 😁

neonfox12 said:Some people get insulted or trolled for months before they finally get hit with a standard ban, and nobody even mentions the partial points. Take that one provocateur over at LJS, for example...

Look, I don't feel like I owe anyone an explanation as to why User X got this many points while User Y got that many—honestly, it’s not something I enjoy doing. Because of that, this will be my final post on this thread. Realistically, other people's bans aren't your business, and no amount of legal maneuvering from you all is going to change my mind.

After reading through everything posted by Afro Dita and Honeychilde, here’s my takeaway:
a) 500 points for being pretty outright offensive. Given that three or four of her recent posts weren't exactly mild, the total definitely adds up to 500. I’m not expecting anyone to play the martyr or act like a villain just because they felt "provoked."
b) 100 points for the trolling and the constant debate over point totals, which I already touched on in this post.

John Castillo7 said:So, no, the thread isn't being cleaned up properly.

Actually, the thread gets cleaned up just fine—sometimes it happens right after a report, sometimes a day later, and occasionally something slips through the cracks. If a post gets missed, I just delete it once someone points it out; I don't think it's the end of the world. If your definition of "cleaning up properly" requires everything to be wiped within a specific number of hours, then we clearly have different definitions.

John Castillo7 said:It wouldn't be an issue if you just said you were on vacation, or that you're swamped with work lately and can't get to it immediately, instead of snapping back with this defensive aggression ("please stop nitpicking") just because someone accurately pointed out that you aren't currently doing part of your job.

I'm neither annoyed nor aggressive; I just consider certain posts to be nonsense.

John Castillo7 said:Just like your job/task (at least it should be) is to listen to complaints and respond politely, rather than picking fights with users simply because they voiced a grievance.

I just can't view a post titled "Merge US and LJES groups" as anything remotely serious in any known universe.

John Castillo7 said:The classifieds are a perfect example since they involve your new rules (which I personally find unnecessary, but you implemented them and vigorously "defended" them, which is your right), so it shouldn't matter whether someone specifically reports a single post. You should be managing the thread yourselves.

We've explained the reasoning behind those rules several times now. We never claimed we'd be pulling 24/7 shifts over the classifieds section to wipe every single thing the second it appears. If something is missed -> it was missed. That doesn't mean the rule isn't being applied.

John Castillo7 said:Look, nobody is disputing that. But there’s a difference. When you point out a mistake or a slip-up, they actually say, "Thanks, we'll fix it, things have been hectic lately"—because Herbicidna has always been decent, even if they get a little nitpicky sometimes. They don't just start spinning everything when someone is clearly right.

If you think they're right, then fine. I think it's pure spin. Thanks for reading. 🙂

Emily Fisher23 said:Take the classifieds section, for example. It’s a perfect case study. If we actually moved faster to address posts that don't meet the 100-post minimum, people might actually bother respecting the rules. As it stands, someone jumps into the classifieds, maybe skims the stickied first post, and then flips through the last two or three pages. They quickly realize half the crowd is already ignoring the 100-post rule anyway. Their ads have been sitting there for days without anyone saying a word, which leads to that classic logic: if everyone else is cutting corners, why shouldn't I?

How fast should we be moving on this? Look, I know sometimes we’re jumping on a report within minutes, and other times there's a bit of a lag. We’re constantly checking the threads and keeping things clean, but let's be real—is it possible for something to slip through the cracks? Of course it is.

Emily Fisher23 said:I actually had to reach out and ask if there would even be a vote at all, considering I didn't get around to checking on the deposit requirements until a few days after the deadline had already passed. 🤷
And yeah, this thread—which is clearly aimed at teenagers—was actually sitting on the US site for almost three days before anyone noticed. I mean, the very first sentence of the post literally says the kids are sixteen years old. 🙄

Meadow will be around to handle the homework assignments. In the meantime, I’ll leave this thread up for a few days—feel free to eyeball how long you need. It’s not like she went out and caused some massive crisis here in the States or anything.

Emily Fisher23 said:I started quite a few threads this summer just to get everyone together and hanging out, but honestly, I spent way too much time begging for them to be bumped back to the top. It felt ridiculous. I tried everything—messaging a handful of moderators directly, even going as far as reporting my own thread as spam just to force someone to finally take notice. Isn't that just pathetic? 🕺

Maybe it’s just because it was summer; everything seems to move at half-speed when the heat hits.

Emily Fisher23 said:Look, I totally get that the mods and admins aren't exactly on call twenty-four/seven to babysit the site here in the States, but it would be nice if someone could at least glance over things once in a while to see what's actually going on.

Let’s be real: claiming we don't cheat every once in a while is just a blatant lie.

Sophia Smith29 said:Given how things are looking right now, I’m actually on board with the idea of the US joining LJS. It might be just what we need to inject some life back into this subforum—plus, it would probably make life a whole lot easier on our moderators.

Unless the owner of this forum decides to pull the trigger, this isn't going to happen—no matter how much you guys back the idea.

Sophia Smith29 said:The main reason I’m even posting right now is that whole mess with the "Classifieds" section. After everyone on the forum complained about it, they rolled out these super strict new rules, but honestly? They aren't being enforced at all. It feels like it takes several days for anyone to actually step in. I personally watched Jacob Sullivan91 struggle to handle a report for a post that clearly broke the rules—instead of actually enforcing the policy, she just handed out warnings and... I don't think I've ever seen anyone go this far with it. All those controversial posts basically made the whole point of those new rules completely useless.

Some posts get nuked immediately after being reported, some take a few hours, and others linger for a full 24. Since the mods aren't exactly obligated to jump on every single report the second it happens—and seeing as the thread is being kept clean regardless—could you please stop implying that the rules aren't being enforced? The link you sent over did have some unmoderated ads on it, but they've all been cleared out now.

Sophia Smith29 said:Moving forward, there's also... Maybe some of these topics would be better suited for other subforums. They’re still hanging around the US section, and honestly, I suspect it's just because there aren't any moderators available to move them over to their actual primary subforum. I'm only bringing this up because I've noticed several threads getting shuffled over to LJS and ŽuD lately, so it makes me wonder how much the mods assigned to the US section actually do. FlyoversIf people aren't even checking out the new threads anymore, this whole board is basically going to turn into a ghost town. Look, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with moderation that only kicks in when someone actually files a report—that's fine—but it makes me wonder if there are any other subforums out there that operate strictly on a "wait for a complaint" basis.

You’ve got a point. If a thread with fifteen posts gets buried after only three days, it's pretty clear that people just aren't checking out the new stuff.

Sophia Smith29 said:A few other little things I’ve noticed—nothing I’m personally taking to heart, but still—there are all these random threads clearly opened by bots peddling total nonsense. They just sit there on the sub, cluttering up the feed for a couple of days before some moderator finally remembers they exist and hits delete.

The point is, those threads eventually get nuked; whether it happens today or tomorrow doesn't really change the fact that they were there.

Larry Wilson25 said:Give me my PiK back in a PDF format already! Seriously!

We aren't planning on bringing back the PIK. The last two times we tried that, it just turned into a playground for certain cliques to go at it, and half the users would just bail for Reddit if they didn't get the answer they wanted.

Larry Baker72 said:The admin doing the evaluation can just scroll through the posts themselves; there’s really no point in me cluttering up the thread by quoting everything.😵

I mean, where would the admins even be if they had to run an "evaluation" for every single moderator mentioned without at least one actual link to the dispute?

mistyseal8 said:Let’s call this fancy wording what it really is: censorship. ☕

This isn't the first time we've seen this play out on the platform. I can think of plenty of other examples, but one that sticks in my mind was during that massive wave of debate over protecting traditional marriage. Back then, any attempt to discuss homosexuality was treated like a total taboo. Even though there's a mountain of research linking certain topics, mentioning them alongside pedophilia became an instant death sentence in the discussion. But, in its infinite wisdom, the Forum decided it needed to "set the framework," which is just a polite way of saying they censored those perspectives and went after anyone who stepped out of line. One day you get a warning, the next you're banned—it feels like some heavy-handed moderator is just playing judge and jury.

It's also quite interesting how these "frameworks" always seem to be rigged so that the liberal, permissive side gets a free pass, while the conservative and traditional views get shut down immediately.

I guess it’s because most of the arguments trying to link the two basically boil down to "well, if this becomes legal, then pedophilia is next," at least according to the crowd over at Reddit. 🤦

I, Robot (2014) in Movies ·
It’s been a long time since I sat through a sci-fi movie this bad. Honestly, everything about this flick falls flat, with the sole exception being Forstera and his performance.

The plot is dragged out, half-baked, and just poorly explained. As for the characters? A total disaster. Take his "token" wife—she’s basically just there to serve as a plot device to motivate the lead in the final act. The acting is subpar, Griffith is so heavily processed you can barely recognize him, and that ending felt incredibly forced. You're better off skipping this one entirely.

Since you didn't actually provide a link to these "comments," this whole post feels like a blatant lie and a total setup, especially since we have zero tolerance for insults. Neither I nor my colleagues Bliss and Susan Price tolerate them.

driftingcobra572 said:I'm wondering why those aren't getting flagged, while regular comments where moderator Matthew Anderson is involved get hit with warnings?

Because the comment you're taking issue with was written in a context where someone was expressing disapproval of the OP, messing around with a friend's girlfriend, and it could potentially be offensive to him. Look, we aren't going to walk on eggshells and sanitize Lowe's.

driftingcobra572 said:Moderator Matthew Anderson left a comment right after that one without getting flagged himself.

I don't see any reason to flag him, because he was just being sarcastic toward a female user who was the first to say the exact same thing as Eiffel in her post.

Furthermore, you got flagged for trolling for two specific reasons:
a) After several users shared their opinions, you called them "fake moralists" without providing a shred of evidence.
b) You're attacking users with pure ad hominem attacks; honestly, I was being lenient, because you really should have received two warnings.
