Nicole Watson2 said:Basically, comparing Windows XP to Windows 7 is pointless. This is a new era. If any of you actually remember what XP was like when it first launched, you’d be trashing Windows 7 right now. I’ve been in this game a long time and have cycled through just about every version of Windows out there. For me, XP was nothing but a headache until that first service pack finally dropped. As for this new Windows 7, it’s easily the most stable "modern" Windows I've used yet. I’ve had it running for about three weeks now and everything is flawless. When I look back at my first XP installation, I honestly feel sick thinking about how many times I had to roll back to Millennium because XP was such a disaster. And don't even get me started on Vista—it's arguably the worst thing Microsoft ever released. Honestly, I think they tanked Vista on purpose just to make Windows 7 look stable by comparison.

That's it. Stop hating on Windows 7 when you all struggled through those early XP installs before SP3 fixed everything. Just wait until the first service pack for Windows 7 rolls out.

Mashallah, Nicole Watson2 🙏
You're speaking the truth; beautifully put. 👍

My week runs in a VM on my Mac, alongside macOS and Ubuntu Linux. I've allocated 1GB of RAM and 10GB of disk space to it. Performance? Solid. 👍(Best windows yet 😍)

Surprisingly, even though I'm on an x64 system, the truth is the driver for my HP LaserJet 1010 was recognized and accepted immediately. The printer works perfectly, even though I heard plenty of people complaining they had to reinstall drivers just to get printing working again. Initially, my logoff wasn't working (the system would just freeze up and force a hard reset), and during sleep mode, my USB mouse was totally dead after "waking" it up. Now, both functions work fine. Best part is I kept all my accounts and settings intact, which wouldn't have happened with a clean install.

Glad to hear the upgrade actually worked out for you. Enjoy. 🙂

wanderinggardener14 said:The download is crawling. I'm sitting at 41%, and even my connection is a sluggish 1024 / 128 kbps.
Since this is a legitimate system, I can afford to be patient. I read online that an upgrade can take up to three hours depending on the hardware and data volume—maybe even longer. I remember my last installation taking less than thirty minutes. Oh, and thanks for the upload 🙂
Do I need to wipe my ATI graphics drivers or my printer drivers first, or does the setup handle that?
So, is it enough to just run the upgrade once the ISO finishes downloading?

Hmm. You started at 10 AM and you're at 41% by 2 PM? That means you should be wrapped up by roughly 6 PM. Once it's done, burn the ISO, make sure your backup is solid, and then kick off the upgrade.

Don't delete anything. If there's a driver conflict, the system will let you know, and you can just grab compatible versions later.

Currently downloading the 64-bit version, so I'm wondering how you guys handled the installation. Did you go with a clean install or an upgrade? Personally, I'd prefer an upgrade since I'm running Vista business SP2 x64 and I really don't feel like reconfiguring my entire system from scratch.

Did the download actually finish? 😍

I went with a clean install because I wasn't even on Vista before this, but in your case, it shouldn't be an issue (Windows 7 Professional is the correct upgrade path for Vista business). Just make sure you back up your vital files before you start the upgrade.

Windows Vienna was actually just the codename used for the current week's release, and the Transformation Pack is really just a "skin" from an earlier phase of the week that you install on XP to make it look more like the new OS 😍

I’m about ready to ask the Admin for [IMG] code because this layout is a nightmare!

Those are basically Gadgets. On Windows 7, you usually enable them by right-clicking the desktop and selecting "Gadgets," though there isn't much of a selection available yet. Once Microsoft developers see there's actual demand, they'll probably release more. 😉

I've got a problem: I installed Windows 7 as a dual boot alongside Windows Vista, but now after logging in, it keeps asking me to reactivate Vista because the previous activation is showing up as invalid. Any way to fix this?
Thanks!

Jeffrey Harris92 said:Windows 7 has been running flawlessly for me since I grabbed the very first beta. Right now, I'm on version 7100 and haven't run into a single issue with drivers or software. The only hiccup was Daemon Tools failing to work, though I haven't checked if there's an updated version specifically for Windows 7 yet.Everything else works like a charm. Also, Noah Sanchez39 mentioned Windows Live Messenger—it's a solid alternative to Outlook.

Could this be related to this? 🤔

To get Windows 7 activated, you're going to need... ovo Or even better. ovo On that second one, just click "regular." Hang tight for about 30 seconds, type in the phrase from the image above exactly as it appears, and then you can grab the RAR file—it’s roughly 8MB.

To be honest, I’m actually pretty surprised by how well Windows 7 performs. It's been a pleasant surprise. 👍Look, my rig isn't exactly ancient—it's running a Core 2 Duo at 2.4GHz with 4GB of RAM—but honestly? Everything has been running smooth as silk so far.
I haven't run into any issues with Firefox. I just installed the latest 3.5.2 version, and Gmail is running smooth as silk.
I haven't messed around with loading DVD content directly into Windows Media Player, but I can tell you that DVDs—whether they're retail discs or burned ones—play just fine without any issues.
By default, that old Outlook Express app everyone used to know is gone. You actually have to go out and download it now. Windows Live Mail ...or maybe some other apps, like Messenger.

Thanks for the tips.

Best,

cosmicangler57, that "error code 0x80070017" wouldn't be giving you grief if you hadn't burned the ISO at max speed (use 1x or 2x, not 16x)😳

Cosmicangler57, what kind of upgrade are we talking about here? Are you moving from XP to Windows 7? 🙂
Read what I already told you: (check those last two lines specifically) 😉

Regarding that "error code 0x80070017" on your screen, you probably didn't burn the ISO image to the DVD at the slowest possible speed. Check these pages for more info:

I burned the DVD and booted from it, and everything seems fine until it hits "Completing installation." Then the screen flickers—like when you change the resolution—and then the whole thing just freezes.
I'm trying to install it on a separate partition for a dual boot with XP.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

That’s an outdated build of Windows 7, a beta version dated December 12, 2008. These days, the RTM version is what's actually circulating—the one sent to PC manufacturers for testing and pre-installing on their hardware.

If you successfully burned the ISO to a DVD and the installer recognized your hardware and ran smoothly right up until the end, the issue is almost certainly the specific version of Windows you're using. I've read online that they fixed a massive amount of bugs and stability issues in the versions released after the beta stage.

My advice? Try running the installation from that same DVD one more time. If it fails again, stop messing with the beta and download the RTM version, which is basically the final product ready for retail. You can find it on this site, this one, or this page. You'll have to deal with activation later, but let's get you installed first. 😉

cosmicangler57 said:I downloaded Nero Burning ROM, put the Windows 7 files I unpacked onto a DVD-ROM, used that program to create an ISO file and then used the "burn disc image" option to burn it to a DVD-RW, but it still won't boot... Windows reads it fine, though... what's the issue?😕

Look, let’s review the basics here:
1) Find a Windows 7 RTM torrent file.
2) Download that torrent file to your desktop, for instance.
3) Open the torrent with a client—say, http://www.utorrent.com/—and start the download for the week (it's several GBs).
4) Once the week's download is finished, you'll have the ISO file sitting on your desktop.
5) Burn that to a DVD as a "bootable disk" or "ISO image." Instead of Nero, try using CDBurnerXP, http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ 👍

darkviper7 said:You don't even need burning software on Windows 7.
You can do everything directly through Windows itself.

Filip is currently running XP and just needs to burn the week's OS properly.

cosmicangler57 said:It works, but I want to format the C drive where my current XP is installed, and I can't do that this way... anyone actually have an answer to my previous question?

Back up your vital data first, then wipe the C drive so you can install the week's OS later. Isn't that how it works? 😉

Thomas Hernandez21 said:There's no point in unpacking an ISO. You just burn it directly using the "burn image" option—depending on the software. Just get the original ISO again and burn it straight. What you made isn't bootable.

Exactly, Thomas Hernandez21 🙂
