We're talking about this processor, right? 😉

"Instruction set 64-bit" 👍

Kyle Gray89 said:Solved, thanks.

But now I’ve hit a different wall. For some reason, I can't get Logitech SetPoint to recognize my G5 mouse. It shows up perfectly fine in the Windows Device Manager, listed right there as a "Logitech HID-compliant G5 laser mouse."

Maybe you aren't using the specific Logitech SetPoint version meant for Windows 7.🤔

Check it out here to read about Windows 7 support for your Logitech gear (the G5 Laser Mouse IS supported, you just need SetPoint 4.80), and you can download the correct Windows 7 compatible version of SetPoint 4.80 (either 32-bit or 64-bit) 🙂right

Gary Cooper7 said:So, I decided to go ahead and install Windows 7 Ultimate—the latest updated one... so I have a few questions:
Is the installation process basically the same as XP, like booting from a CD and all that?
Given my specs, should I go with the 32-bit or 64-bit version?
And will my current programs and games from XP actually work?

I've been strictly on XP for about 6 years now, so I'm a bit out of the loop with everything else. Forgive me if these sound like rookie questions.

The Windows 7 installation was smooth sailing for me; it went pretty fast, even with a couple of restarts.

I opted for Windows 7 64-bit simply because my CPU supports it (Core 2 Duo).

Aside from needing to manually reinstall the Windows Live services (Messenger, mail), everything else runs more than fine.
I can't speak much to gaming, though, since I'm not really a "gamer"—better to let someone else weigh in on that.
It wouldn't hurt for you to check the software websites yourself to see if they have versions compatible with Windows 7.

Tyler Morris3 said:Hey guys, I just got it up and running. That program. Can someone tell me if my computer can actually handle running Windows 7? Everything is fine except for Windows Aero..a Got a new graphics card, but now the screen just stays black. Great.Everything is running smoothly. Even the most demanding videos play without a hitch. Some computer geek was actually surprised that my screen can handle stuff like that. If my hardware is handling high-res video this easily, does that mean I can install Windows 7 without any issues? Looking for some advice here. Thanks.

Is this about... With this program.? 😉

How "new" of a graphics card are we talking about? 🤔
If the issue is actually with the screen itself, have you considered just picking up a new LCD? You can find 19" models starting at... $333And maybe it can be found for smaller ones too. 🙂)
Read up more on Aero. here And especially that. here Pay attention to the "Aero hardware requirements."

Besides that, speaking from my own experience, I can't recommend a clean install of Windows 7 enough. I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10—because let's face it, nothing is ever perfect. 😁)

rustydriver23 said:Since HP hasn't posted them on their site, I'm wondering if they even need to. From what I can see, Windows 7 seems to handle things just fine on its own... right?

From what I can tell, there's some kind of beta driver listed on that page, if I recall correctly http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-64.aspx 😢?

Thanks!

You aren't mistaken, but that’s just the ATI Catalyst Display Driver ver. 9.9 (Windows 7 beta - 64-Bit Edition), dated September 9, 2009;

If you head over to the main site (Home page) and under "Download Drivers" click on "Featured driver: Catalyst" (direct link), just pick the specific driver for your card (ATI Radeon video card Drivers, full suite, Windows 7 64-bit), version 9.10—which was actually released yesterday, October 22, 2009—and grab that latest version (about 65MB). 🙂

rustydriver23 said:So I was checking today and noticed HP finally released drivers for my HP 6735s laptop. It feels weird though—there's no driver listed for the graphics card... Is it actually possible you don't need a GPU driver, or did they just forget to upload it? (Windows 7 64-bit)

Thanks!

jadeseal81 said:I was also playing the guessing game with installing Windows 7 while waiting for the HP site to update. Looks like they finally showed up, so I'll probably be setting up Windows 7 pretty soon myself.
Just grab the graphics drivers directly from the manufacturer's website.

It's most likely the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200; you can download the drivers here 🙂

Justin Barrett said:My Terratec Cinergy 1400 DVB-T TV tuner is three years old and cost me $150. There are zero drivers available; it won't work on Windows Vista, so I'm just wasting my time searching for them... 🙂

John, you should really read through this entire thread on this forum. A few people actually managed to get that TV tuner running under Windows 7 😉; let me know if you pull it off too

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:I think I'll just grab the 32-bit Home version today.$317 It should be fine for the software I plan on using over the next 5 years. There's no point in going with 64-bit if my processor isn't 64-bit, right?

Otherwise, I've got a laptop with a Core 2 Duo
T7500, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce 8700M GT with 512 MB of VRAM, and a 160GB hard drive running at 7200 RPM.

The Core 2 Duo IS a 64-bit processor (link).

Kevin Gonzalez79 said:So where can I actually go to buy Windows? Does any store even stock new versions of Windows these days, or is everything just running late like usual around here?

You can find it having in Links 😉 (in cities like New York or Chicago)

placidcobra49 said:Hey everyone, I haven't really messed around with Windows 7 yet, so I'm wondering—once you finish installing it, does the internet just work, or do you have to go through some extra setup steps??

Unless you're part of some specific LAN or running a dual/triple boot setup where the connection is already configured on another OS, you'll need to handle it yourself during the first week.
How? Check here. 🙂

Douglas Lewis16 said:If we used those methods to get our Windows activated, is it okay to keep updates turned on? Also, is there anything like TuneUp Utilities for Windows 7?

1) Of course. Why wouldn't you? If you check the Control Panel (System and Security, System), see "Windows is activated" under Windows activation, and the Product ID shows a valid string of characters, you're fine. No issues there. 😉

2) Try CCleaner. It's free and works perfectly for Windows 7.

Olivia Watson46 said:Is it hitting the US stores on October 22nd or later, and what's the price tag looking like? Does anyone know how much more it'll cost than Vista? I'm assuming it'll be higher...
Also, is it true they're throwing in a free week's worth of DVDs with laptops that come pre-installed with Vista?

Check here for info on the release dates and pricing.
Compared to Vista, Windows 7 isn't actually any more expensive (Home Premium is actually cheaper, while Professional and Ultimate versions basically stay at the same price point).

Read about upgrading to Windows 7 here.

Jack Jackson51 said:Everything runs perfectly on my end. I've been running Windows 7 RTM for quite a while now without a single complaint, except for one minor thing... nothing deal-breaking, but they ditched the Classic Start Menu. It’s not like I actually use it, but I still miss seeing it there.

Harold Taylor6 said:I'm running into some codec issues.
On my old Windows XP x86 32-bit setup using K-Lita, the picture quality is perfect. But on Windows 7 64-bit, using these specific codecs , the image looks terrible. It’s like every single pixel is actually a massive 5x5 block... just pure pixelation. I mean, if I'm sitting about 13 feet away, I might not notice, but if I'm trying to watch something at my desk, it's unwatchable. 😢

Just go ahead and download some 64-bit codecs for 64-bit Windows 7. 🙄

Lawrence Mitchell44 said:Look, I’m looking to pick up a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo. I need a range of at least 5 or 6 meters, so I wanted to see if anyone here has experience with that. I'd prefer a Logitech set, ideally staying under $267 bucks.
My bad if this topic already exists!

Personally, I use a Mac with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse setup that runs me more than $400 just for the pair, so that might be out of your budget. 🙄

By the way, you can find the Logitech Cordless desktop MX 5000 at Microsoft$267 (though it'll cost a bit more than ), priced at about $288.
