An optimist wearing rose-colored glasses.

I have a gut feeling that Perez might... stumble... right at the starting line. If he manages to stay upright, he might lead the race through to the end, but I’m just not sure how much of an impact he'll actually make.

I'll know I've finally hit my stride when I can play the part of the general surveying the battlefield after the dust has settled. 🤷 That wasn't exactly your brightest moment...

Post-race analysis? Are you kidding me!? 🤦

I’ve said it before: anyone claiming this is just a guaranteed win for Red Bull Racing is being way too overconfident.

Up until those final laps in Q3, everyone was convinced Red Bull Racing would dominate the field... just like they always do.

All that talk is just noise. Let’s wait until the race wraps up today—not to see if we were right or wrong, but to finally see if our gut feelings hold water.

So far, my intuition is holding up. It looks like Mercedes-Benz is finding some serious rhythm here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For now, at least.

It’s pretty clear that Sergio Perez doesn't even hold a candle to drivers like Jarno Trulli, let alone someone of Gerhard Berger's caliber.

If we're being honest about his actual talent, Sergio Perez is sitting somewhere just a tiny bit above the level of Pastor Maldonado.
We all know that if it weren't for the Slim dollar , Sergio wouldn't be able to keep pace with Lance Stroll in Formula 1.

............

.... but let's take it one step at a time. First the practice sessions, then qualifying, and finally the race itself.....

Then we'll see who's really king of the hill and who's just playing for second place. It's all going to come out in the wash.🙂

🤣🤣
Valtteri Bottas is absolutely beaming right now. 👍
He even managed to "snag" a helmet once owned by Juan Manuel Fangio. 👍
🤦

When a kid starts playing Formula 1.

🤦
Let’s just set aside all those "stories" about favoritism for now. We can start lamenting about who the favorites actually were once the Grand Prix weekend is officially over.

Sure, the data is right there, much like in previous seasons at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway—Red Bull Racing thrives in the thin air of Mexico City, Alpine seems to find its rhythm, and I can't recall who else... meanwhile, Mercedes struggles, and Ferrari feels the pinch too...

...but let's take it one step at a time. First we have free practice, then qualifying, and finally the race itself.

Only then will we see who truly holds the cards. It'll be a real showdown to see who comes out on top.🙂

DJ, Clint really pulled it off.

Kudos to you... but what’s the point of all this? 🤦

After a long hiatus, I finally sat down and watched it again:

It’s an absolute classic. It truly has it all—humor, action, drama, and pure suspense. 👍

😂

Thanks for the clarification. Now you've cleared up the doubt that you completely missed the point of my post—because my point wasn't that Bottas is depressed because he's an ex Mercedes driver, but that he became an ex Mercedes driver precisely because he's depressed and can't get his head right. The guy used to have some solid drives, but he just doesn't have the mental grit to push through a slump, which is why he's stuck where he is.

Wow... you completely missed the mark on this one.

Sam Clark75 said:yeah, and?

What do you mean, "and"?

Since Valtteri is... well, he's an ex-Mercedes driver, and that history really seems to weigh him down and hold him back from his full potential.

Sam Clark75 said:He acts like he’s spiraling—like he can't even wrap his head around fixing things when everything goes south, he just sinks like a stone.

Such a shame, but that's Formula 1 for you—there's always some new kid waiting to jump down your throat.

.........

First off, if anyone had any doubts about George Russell stepping into that Mercedes seat next year, they can toss those doubts out the window after watching how lackluster Valtteri Bottas's fastest lap was just two laps from the finish. It practically forced his crew to call Lewis, who ended up snatching back a potentially valuable point in the final lap. That tragicomic indecision was highlighted when he backed off halfway through the lap the second Mercedes dropped his kryptonite over the radio. He lost a few tenths in the middle sector and then slowed down even more in the final sector just to ensure he wouldn't cause any headaches for his teammate later. As a result, Lewis ended up with a lap that was a full second and a half faster. So, if you thought we were going to see a "determined" Valtteri playing for pride and hunting fast laps to bolster his legacy, think again; he’s leaning into a different kind of exit. He’s leaving, for sure, and he probably already knows his days at Mercedes are numbered, but he’ll depart in his signature style—half-hearted, strictly professional, and without an ounce of spirit or grit.

.......

Amy Castillo4 said:I'm with you on all points—but man, he really went overboard with that whole thing about the Belgian Grand Prix.

To be fair... I did exaggerate my statement.
But since I used quotation marks, you could interpret it however you like.

The Belgian Grand Prix wasn't much of a race, but it was certainly a Grand Prix weekend. Since Formula 1 is always Formula 1 in my book... and that Sunday... was a (scandalous) Formula 1 event...

...by pure coincidence, I didn't actually get a chance to watch the event on Sunday...

...because if I had been watching, I would have been... absolutely livid... even more than during the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. 🤣🤣

The track itself is engaging and offers plenty for the drivers to work with... but when it comes to pure on-track action, it felt a bit lackluster. It wasn't exactly a total procession, but it was... relatively dull.

Don't get me wrong... any race is a win for a true Formula 1 fan, even last week's Belgian Grand Prix (in a way), despite the feeling that it "hardly even happened."

The natural order of things has finally been restored; the absolute best driver is sitting right at the front of the pack, exactly where he belongs.

"Wise guy," huh? What are you even trying to pull there?

Just a quick side note: I can't help but think about how many royals and kings are involved there... and man, that rendition of the anthem was absolutely electric.🎉

I’m bracing myself for some total unpredictability in today’s race.

Hopefully, we don't see any driver pulling a stunt that feels more like a cheat than a win.
