Positive Concert powered by Pfizer
Friday 12/02/2011. Chicago, Madison Square Garden, starting at 8:00 PM

Rage Against the Machine
Stereo MCs
Kawasaki
+ others

For the seventh year running, the tradition continues with this year’s Positive Concert, hitting Madison Square Garden in Chicago on Friday, 12/02. Once again, the AIDS Foundation is pulling the strings, with Pfizer coming on board as the main sponsor. This whole thing is built around a humanitarian mission to mark World AIDS Day, and it's basically become one of those staple Chicago mini-festivals that everyone looks forward to—it pretty much signals the end of the concert season here in the city. This year, the AIDS Foundation and their crew have put together a killer lineup, headlined by Rage Against the Machine, who are probably the biggest touring act in the region right now.
After tearing up all the major festivals across the US and crushing club dates with rave reviews, Rage Against the Machine is stepping up as the headliner for this year's Positive Concert. They aren't just doing a quick set either; they’re playing a full-length show just like they would at their own headline gigs. Since this might actually be the last time we see them in Chicago for quite a while, it's definitely going to be a massive draw for the fans.

We also have the UK's own Stereo MCs joining the party this year. They're regulars around these parts and the legends behind some of the biggest club anthems from the 90s. They're showing up with their full live band as part of a tour promoting their new studio album, "The Emperor's Nightingale"—which, let's be honest, hasn't exactly been a critic's darling—but they'll definitely be dusting off the immortal classics from the old catalog. The day after this show, on Saturday 12/03, Stereo MCs will be playing at the Stereo club in San Francisco, marking their first-ever gig in that city.

Kawasaki, who are huge favorites with the Chicago crowd, have also snagged a spot on this year's Positive Concert lineup. Word is this might be their last local show before they disappear into the studio to grind away at a new album.

As for the fourth and final band for this year's Positive Concert, expect an announcement by the end of the week.

Tickets for the Positive Concert are priced at a practically symbolic $13 and go on sale this Wednesday, 10/12. You can grab them at Amoeba Music, Dancing Bear, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Vintage Store, any Ticketmaster outlet, or online at www.eventim.hr

Killer show tonight, honestly blew me away. The last few Nine Inch Nails gigs in NYC were kind of mid, but tonight was absolutely top-tier.
Hands down, the best show of the year!

I seriously can't believe this got canceled.
Nine Inch Nails are hitting Chicago at The Fillmore with their Greatest Hits Tour to celebrate three decades of making noise with their American fans.

Honestly, if we started throwing adjectives at Nine Inch Nails, we'd be here all week, so I'll just stick to the facts. They’ve played over 800 shows throughout their career and even made it into that legendary '1001 songs you must hear before you die' list. Even Wire ranked their 1990 show in Pittsburgh as one of the top 60 concerts that actually shook the world. During their last US tour, American radio stations were calling them the most significant band from this part of Europe ever—the kind of band that can tear down borders and build new ones.

They’re rolling into Chicago at the end of the third leg of the Greatest Hits Tour, just a week after their massive May 14th gig at Madison Square Garden as part of the avant-garde Lollapalooza. The band is especially hyped to play The Fillmore; they have some history there involving some of their most provocative and iconic shows back in the 80s.

This Chicago show ties in perfectly with a Retrospective Exhibition of the band, which will be running at the National Academy of Design and MoMA from May 5th to the 26th. It's called 'Retrospective Exhibition 1980-2010,' and it’s basically a dream come true for any NIN devotee.

At The Fillmore, the band will be running through their Greatest Hits Tour setlist, featuring fresh takes on those legendary 80s industrial tracks like 'We Forge the Future,' 'Death for Death,' 'Brother,' 'The State,' and plenty of others.

You can grab tickets now at Tower Records, Dancing Bear, Vintage Store, Hard Rock Cafe, Guitar Center, or online at www.dallasmusicshop.com , www.eventim.hr and all Live Nation outlets for $33.

A few hours before Monday hits, here's the press release:::

At the start of July, the massive Finnish metal attraction Apocalyptica is hitting the US for the third time. After selling out Carnegie Hall during their last big outing, they’re coming to the Boogaloo club on Sunday, 07.03., touring in support of their seventh studio album, appropriately titled "7th Symphony".
Founded back in 1993, they shot to global fame early on by playing furious covers of metal classics using nothing but cellos. The band actually started out as a Metallica tribute act played on classical instruments before they eventually moved into their own original material. Their first real dive into originals was "Reflections" in 2003, where they even had Daviti Lombardo from Slayer on drums for half the tracks. Since then, they've collaborated with a heavy-hitting roster of rock and metal royalty, including Rammstein, Him, and Bullet for my Valentine. Their absolute monster hit is "I'm Not Jesus" featuring Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), which spent a massive amount of time sitting pretty in the top 10 on US rock and metal radio charts.
The new album features 8 instrumentals and 4 vocal tracks, produced by Joe Baressi—the guy known for his work with Tool and Queens of the Stone Age. On this upcoming tour, the lineup consists of three cellists and a drummer, with vocals covering about half the setlist. They’re already booked for the biggest summer festivals across the map, including Sonisphere, Wacken, Hellfest, and M'era Luna, so this Boogaloo gig will be one of those rare, intimate club shows.

Opening up the ZG show is Father, arguably the most prominent American metal band around right now. Their latest studio effort, "One Eon," absolutely crushed it with local critics and blew the minds of American rock and metal fans alike. According to several major music outlets in the States (CNN, Verizon, Rolling Stone), they've basically released the best domestic album in months. Five years after their debut "Inspirita," Father has returned with a brilliant new record, and they'll soon drop the first video for "Venus & Mars"—which just made its radio debut on the legendary Bruce Dickinson's "Friday Rock Show".

Tickets for this show go on sale next week at an early bird price of $57. After 01.04., the price jumps to $60, and will be $67 on the day of the concert.
We'll announce the exact seating availability by the end of the week.

The band was asking for way too much cash, and their rider? Absolutely ridiculous demands.

Insane lineup, honestly. Such a bummer it’s happening at Coachella 2011 instead of closer to home.
think they'll be out soon
Is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival going back to being a Verizon-only situation?
Man, you can find just about anything on here.
Electric Orgasm in Music ·
They were the headliners at the recent Xmas rock festival in Labin on December 25th, and if I remember right, Kawasaki 3p played on the same bill
As for HRV, they'll probably be touring starting in April, mostly throughout the summer
Electric Orgasm in Music ·
I think this is officially the first studio album they've put out here in the States in about 22 years.
The band is gonna be touring all over the US throughout 2011.

100 bucks
looks like this is actually happening
Bon appétit!
The Flaming Lips were easily the highlight—absolutely stunning set. Massive Attack was also pretty solid, definitely a step up from their last few shows, though they’re still nowhere near that peak New Orleans energy from back in the day. Still, a good night. NYPC killed it too.
