Besides, Rachel Young3 has the transcript right there in the folder; Zlee didn't need it anyway.😁
You know how much Simps extorts people, right? 😳
Justin Foster45 said:It’s not my place to judge those other issues, but I am curious—which specific rule changes on the forum do you think were unnecessary?
Look, that's exactly why you slapped that second warning on me—because I was annoyed that you were pulling a few pages out of some Gossip thread just to make a whole separate topic.
I mean, what's the point?
Oh, come on, you guys actually deleted the posts... you know where this is heading 🙄
Please don't delete them. There's a really simple reason for that—I honestly have no clue who she’s talking about. Whether the poor woman is sick, just a pathological liar, or completely delusional, I'm definitely not the one involved
So, feel free to leave it up.
I almost wrote that I've never stepped foot in a county records office in my life, but that's not true—I did go in once. It was just that one single time I had to head inside to help my grandparents pull some paperwork to prove their house was built before the mid-'60s, I think it was because of some gas line issue or something
So, either she’s totally confused or she’s making things up, but either way—it isn't me 😁
@saaba, at least leave a reply for the moderator, don't make me have to deal with this again 🤣
Rachel Hughes7 said:Look, hollowmason64. Get a grip.
First off, you’ve convinced yourself you're such a major player that everyone is out to get you. You're just part of the noise. We all bark, and I don't see why it bothers you so much.
Your actual issue is accepting that words carry weight. You wouldn't even face the consequences when you were causing this kind of mess IRL. You know we know each other, and you know exactly what I mean when I say you don't understand property law; you just have a star on a deed.
Google changed its operating procedure. You simply don't fit the new standard, which is why you're getting banned. The problem lies with you, not with Zlee or the forum.
Chill out, hollowmason64. Or just leave the forum. All you're doing is contradicting yourself.
Look, I honestly have no clue who you are or what you're talking about, but you and I definitely haven't met.
I truly don't have any idea who you are on this forum, and I don't remember a single thing you've posted, let alone seeing you IRL 🤣

My bad, I didn't mean to mess up your handle, but I can't change it anymore. If you or anyone else could fix it, that would be great...
As for this whole thing about being the worst moderator... honestly, is reading comprehension really that much of a struggle for some people?
Look, I’ll admit, I definitely made a bit of a scene there—it wasn't my intention, I swear.😬..but I never actually wrote anywhere that Zlee was the worst moderator.
What I actually said was that she's just like those other divas who used to pop up on John Doe’s moderation team, acting like they could reshape the entire forum to fit their specific whims and ditching anything they didn't personally like.
The forum stayed exactly how it was; those divas just moved on.
And don't even get me started on how she basically targeted me for reasons known only to her.
We've had an agreement for light moderation on this board for ten years now, yet she's constantly running around handing out bans, splitting threads because they're "off"🤦 and rearranging everything to suit her own agenda—as if we're all just here to give her someone to ban or someone to reorganize posts for.
I didn't actually post that because I thought someone was reporting me; I just wanted to show what kind of nonsense is being thrown around—the kind of insults that only Zlee seems to pick up on for whatever personal reasons they have.
I honestly don't even know where to start with this, but I'll give you the short version—I am completely fed up with Zlee and her moderation. I’m just totally over how she runs things over at John Doe and the way she keeps personally targeting me.
Alright, now that we’ve finally settled on the reasoning behind why we broke everything down like that:
Look, everything the entire admin team and all those mods who banned me already know—and honestly? I’m not even going to sit here and complain about getting banned. It is what it is.
Whether I agree with them or not isn't really my main concern. Honestly, I don't spend much time complaining about it because I get that sometimes you just catch a bad break. One day the call goes your way, the next day it doesn't. It’s like when you’re watching a game and someone makes a clear play that should be a penalty, but the ref lets it slide—and then later, they call a foul on a totally clean move. You just have to accept that there's a certain kind of cosmic balance at play. Everything eventually levels out. 😁
At the end of the day, this is just a damn forum—a place to hang out, debate stuff, and basically just socialize. I really don't feel like wasting my time or ruining the vibe of this space by getting into petty arguments over some cardboard.
And just to be crystal clear—this isn't some petty complaint about someone getting a card or a ban. It’s really more about the way this mod is actually handling things and how they conduct themselves on the job.
I haven't even bothered complaining about those boxes from Zlee... honestly, I just couldn't care less about her or her packaging. Especially those first few shipments.
Just so everyone can get a clear picture of what I’m actually talking about, I figured I should show you the nonsense my wife has been throwing at me lately:
12.04. Cardboard. Insulting other forum members - 45 points
30.04. Cardboard. Rule violation—that's a 25-point deduction.
02.09. Cardboard. Insulting other forum members - 45 points
04.09. Cardboard. Insulting other forum members - 45 points
It looks like there’s more than one version floating around—they've got stuff from her and some from the Cats too. It's like two of the exact same thing just showed up at once.
I figured I’d just put these out there so everyone can see exactly why I ended up getting flagged for "insults." Honestly, I mostly wanted to show how some woman just keeps coming at me out of nowhere—it feels like she’s got some personal vendetta against me that nobody else even understands.
So, my wife managed to rack up four full boxes of points in just five months—that's 160 points total—all thanks to my constant posting over on John Doe.
So, after that red card on April 30th, I honestly just lost my cool. I ended up snapping at her, telling her she needs to go find somewhere else to work through her frustrations, and then I just walked away. I haven't typed a single word on John Doe or Gossip for months now.
Just to clear things up regarding why there’s such a massive gap in her posting history during that period—I haven't actually written a single post on that moderation board in months.
It looks like she was a bit distracted by her summer vacation, which I suppose makes sense, but the second she got back to reality, she immediately started getting under my skin again. It’s like she didn't even need a transition period; one minute she's relaxing, and the next, she's right back to being a total headache.
Look, let's get one thing straight—I’m not about to deny Zlee her right to think I'm an idiot, a nuisance, or just plain simple-minded. She can wrap her head around whatever version of me she wants; honestly, she's more than entitled to her own opinion.
Honestly, why should I even care what she thinks of me? It’s really not my problem.
Look, I’m not really here to post for the sake of posting. The way I write and the stuff I share—it's not about performing for an audience. Honestly, if I were trying to impress her, or someone like her, I'd be acting a lot different. But truth be told? I couldn't care less if she likes me or falls for me or whatever. It just doesn't move the needle for me.
Honestly, they’re just a non-factor in my life. Not even worth a second thought.
Until they start jumping down my throat.
Look, if Zlee is having a hard time separating her own personal likes and dislikes from her actual moderation duties, then she really shouldn't be stepping up to do the job. It’s just not fair to anyone else. And honestly, if she only decided to take on a moderator role because she thought it would give her some kind of status or make her feel important, then those are pretty shaky motivations to start with.
I mostly spend my time over on the politics boards, where it’s basically constant warfare over different topics every single day. Because things can spiral out of control in a split second, there are always at least two moderators on duty at any given moment to keep an eye on things. It's pretty intense, but I never deal with any disciplinary action there—the moderation style is actually quite professional and structured. But here? It feels like some random user is just using me as a punching bag to vent their own personal frustrations.
Don't even go there...
What actually leads to her getting moderated over on John Doe and Gossip...
I remember back in the day, maybe ten years ago, we were practically tearing each other apart right here over that exact same PDF. It was intense. For weeks—honestly, months—it was just constant fighting, heated arguments, people throwing insults around, and getting banned left and right. It all boiled down to the moderation issues.
It’s honestly because every once in a while, some high-and-mighty woman shows up on this John Doe thread, convinced she’s the absolute center of the universe. She acts like she’s going to totally reshape the whole sub-forum, thinking hundreds or thousands of us ladies hang out here just for her. She thinks she can dictate what we can say, what we should talk about, or what topics are "appropriate"—as if we all live by her personal set of rules and whims.
..we've dealt with all sorts of eccentrics over the years—one lady who would shut down threads just because she couldn't stand people mentioning kids, another who took offense at something else entirely, a third who thought a certain topic was just "tacky," and so on... she wants us to chat one way, then turns around and demands we talk another way. Why do some people write certain things, or why do others use words she finds "unpleasant"? (Good grief, when I remember the names you all used to throw at the moderators... honestly, it felt like we were living in an outpatient ward at a mental hospital 🤦)..
...the bottom line of the story —after all those endless arguments and clashes that even someone like Anderson had to step into, it was decided that moderation on the John Doe thread would be much more relaxed compared to the rest of the forum.
Not exactly without any rules or boundaries, but meant to be a "light" version.
Over the years, that has included everything from "you idiot" and "get lost" (copyright ☕) to "screw you"... basically, typical lady behavior, right?
People would fight, make up, apologize, and everything would just work...
..at least until last year, when Cats showed up and, thank heaven, told everyone to back off and took over moderating the front end of ZK. Then we were left with Zlee, who has just kept riding our backs with that condescending tone of hers.
The woman actually banned a user on the John Doe thread just because she mentioned wanting to charm a celebrity like Julia Roberts 🙏
Simps, I’m talking to you—I’m fighting for you and for your freedom 😳
She gives me a warning because she doesn't like how I "jump in" to reply to another user and says she won't permit it; she gives me a strike for "insulting a member" simply because I said I was going to stir the pot regarding "ofarban Lujka."
...she ruins the Gossip for us every few days, constantly splitting things up or shutting them down because "it's not the topic" or we went "off-topic."
And this is on a thread where the subtitle literally says "Irrelevant and chatty topics" !!!
For crying out loud.
In short—please, I am asking you, get her off our backs. Not only is she destroying the vibe and the whole point of this thread, but she’s also clearly enjoying picking on the women here, using her moderator powers to vent her own personal frustrations. I highly doubt that's what anyone looks for in a moderator.
Thanks in advance.
Rachel Diaz8 said:Now, dear hollowmason64, when we're dealing with claims secured by a lien, there actually isn't a statute of limitations on interest.
Let's not jump to conclusions quite so quickly.
Actually, there is.
It’s not the principal amount that expires—it’s the interest, the legal fees, and those other secondary charges tied to the main debt that hit the statute of limitations on interest.
If I recall the specific section of the Uniform Commercial Code correctly, that's how it works.
@Steven Stewart3, don't sweat it, everything is going to work out fine.
Rachel Diaz8 said:So, basically, someone owes money for years, they never touch the principal, and eventually, the interest just expires under the statute of limitations.
That's pretty interesting.🙂
Just because you find it interesting doesn't mean you can spout nonsense and claim something is a lie.
What would you have us do? Just ignore the statute of limitations? Look, being in debt isn't a murder charge or a war crime.
Steven Stewart3 said:Sorry about that—I deleted my last post because it was honestly kind of a mess. I don't have the deed or any of those official files sitting right in front of me at the moment. Since I own quite a few properties, I started getting a little bit of panic set in!
But looking at the situation now, I’m feeling way more optimistic that everything is going to turn out fine. I’m definitely going to hire an attorney to walk me through the next steps and make sure I'm covered. There seems to be a ton of conflicting advice floating around here on this topic, with everyone basically telling their own version of how things work.
That said, if I remember correctly, it’s been about 30 years since that loan was even taken out.
Thanks so much to everyone for all the helpful tips!
Exactly. Given how old this debt is, plus inflation, the general instability of the country, and all those other factors, your best bet is to hand this over to a professional. Reach out to the bank, ask them exactly what they're claiming, and let them lay out the options.
It’ll work out. The interest isn't going to cost you your house, regardless of how worried you were 😁
And the reason you're seeing so much conflicting info online is just because everyone feels entitled to jump in and share advice that makes sense to *them*.
Once enough time has passed for a debt to become stale, the creditor is basically only entitled to collect the principal amount. They can't come after you for interest, legal fees, or any other extra charges, so you really only owe whatever specific amount was originally recorded in the lien.
If you're looking to sell your property, the creditor can actually provide a letter of intent that outlines the exact amount they’re looking for. In those scenarios, the buyer pays that specified amount directly to them first to secure a release of the lien—essentially giving them a clear title—and then they pay the remaining balance to you.
It's honestly not a big deal, nor is it complicated at all.
A ton of people sell homes with existing mortgages using this exact method.
Besides, creditors are usually pretty willing to cut a deal. At the end of the day, getting cash in hand right now is much better than dragging things out through the court system or dealing with the whole circus of a forced sale.
But here’s the most important part for you: if that lien has been sitting there since back in '84, you're only on the hook for the amount listed in that original record.
At this point, you can just skim the headlines and let the dice roll... but at the end of the day, certain people are clearly voting based on what serves their own interests best.
You have to wonder what kind of people find that approach so appealing. ☕
driftingtinker said:Who exactly orchestrated this judicial 'omerta' surrounding the final verdict against the mother of the Republican Party boss in Washington, D.C., during that corruption scandal?
Vinka Luetić Herman, working with a whole crew of buddies, spent years pocketing bribes to fix up fake disability pensions. The verdict actually became final way back on February 28, 2020, but then—get this—nobody said a word about it publicly for a year and a half. I mean, maybe it's because Mislav Herman stepped up as the Republican Party head in Washington, D.C. in November 2020, and then went on to be their candidate for mayor and a VP on the City Council. Just seems convenient, I guess.
The Republican Party knows what's up.
What I'm really curious about—since the ruling became final about a year and a half ago and carries an unconditional prison sentence—is whether the lady actually ended up behind bars.
Emily Smith6 said:A rather interesting little development. The President has appointed the leader of the Republican Party Youth as a State Secretary within the Department of Labor.
Moving from his role as an advisor to Josip Aladrović, he’s now stepping up to the position of State Secretary.
It seems career progression within the Republican Party is remarkably efficient; I suppose if you spend two years advising Aladrović, you might just find yourself a State Secretary before you know it.
Honestly, it's just a bunch of nobodies who wouldn't be anything at all without their party connections.
On another note, did anyone catch that idiot Horvat speaking today?
A group of women traveled all the way from Orljava to protest because they haven't seen a paycheck in three months, and this guy starts rambling about how much he "understands" them and respects their right to protest—while simultaneously implying there wasn't actually any valid reason for them to be out there in the first place.
These women are working hard and haven't been paid for a quarter of a year, yet he acts like he can't wrap his head around why they're upset.
Those Republican types are such absolute trash; honestly, they deserve to have people throw food in their faces right on the street.

Maybe the party treated them to something a bit more upscale than just cheap deli sandwiches, so now they're all laid back somewhere, too relaxed to even get to their keyboards to celebrate their new political superstar.😁
I showed up thinking I’d catch some kind of victory party for the local election wins, but honestly, there wasn't a single party activist in sight.

unnamed counterpart
Brenda Murphy3 said:Give me a break.
Look, this actually might not even be a bad thing—it could be the exact opposite.
Aside from places like our little unnamed counterpart and maybe a few others, we’re mostly talking about tiny towns where practically everyone knows everyone else by sight. If the same person keeps getting elected year after year in places where neighbors actually know each other, it isn't a red flag. In fact, it usually means things are running smoothly. These aren't massive metropolitan areas where a mayor can just hand out a bunch of cushy government jobs to swing an election.
Think about those small towns where you’ve had the same leader for 15 or 20 years and they aren't even tied to a major party machine... you can pretty much assume people are happy with how things are going. That's just it.
Sure, for a place like our unnamed counterpart, it might seem a bit weird, but for most of the towns on this list? It’s not strange at all, and it’s definitely not a bad sign.
It’s honestly the same old story everywhere you look. Our country is just riddled with examples where even the mayors in tiny little towns don't have any real budget to work with—nothing substantial besides using local hiring as a way to play favorites or hand out favors to their buddies. It’s a pattern you see over and over again.
I mean, I'm totally on board with that... 🙄
unnamed counterpart
Brenda Murphy3 said:I mean, I assume those kinds of extreme cases exist, but San Francisco and a bunch of the other places mentioned definitely don't fall into that category.
At the end of the day, I don't know exactly what's going down in all these spots, but from what I've seen, having only one candidate isn't necessarily a bad sign or a red flag... honestly, it's often the exact opposite.
In the big cities, it feels totally weird and I can't quite put my finger on why... but small towns have their own internal logic and rhythm, and people there basically know everyone on the ballot personally.
Come on, give me at least one or two examples from your own experience.

driftingtinker said:Unnamed counterpart one year after the tragedy at the San Francisco nursing home: A few old folks passed away, and now you want to pin the blame on me?
unnamed counterpart:| That whole mess in San Francisco went national pretty fast, I guess. It didn't take long to find out that the director of that nursing home—you know, the guy who basically got the job through local political connections—is unnamed counterpart. He’s an archaeologist by trade, just your typical Republican operative and former mayor of an unnamed counterpart, who somehow landed that director gig because unnamed counterpart was pulling the strings back when he was county supervisor. |
Honestly, if anything, the guy did the budget a favor... he's a victim here, not some criminal. 😁
quietfox38 said:unnamed counterpart: Even before election Sunday on May 16th, about ten percent of all 555 cities and towns—mostly those smaller places—already have their mayors set. In those areas, there’s only one candidate on the ballot.
Because of that, the Republican Party can basically claim victory in four cities and 44 municipalities right now. That’s based on the candidate lists posted on the Federal Election Commission website.
The Republican Party has already locked in mayoral wins in: unnamed counterpart (where the candidate is unnamed counterpart, a current member of Congress), unnamed counterpart (where the candidate is unnamed counterpart), unnamed counterpart (where the candidate is unnamed counterpart), and unnamed counterpart (where the candidate is unnamed counterpart). |
It doesn't surprise me much regarding the small municipalities, but it's still hard to wrap my head around the fact that there isn't even an opposition party in places like unnamed counterpart or unnamed counterpart.
Yeah, I swear, some people just blow my mind with how dense they are. Seriously, if I ever felt like moving to a place like that and running for office myself, I'd be shocked. 🙄

Robin Jones2 said:General Lucić, Medved, Matanović, and Tuškan made it abundantly clear during the victory celebration for Operation Bljesak just how they managed to climb the ranks to general status.
None of them possess any notable intellect, specialized training, or genuine tactical skill.
They were soldiers on the front lines, and they likely showed courage where it mattered, but their early affiliation with the Republican Party is what truly set them apart from their peers and propelled their careers forward.
Then you have that hack Đakić, making spiteful remarks about "certain commanders."
Was he referring to the group mentioned above—those who became generals simply because they were party loyalists?
I was actually sitting there listening to that old, broken-down piece of work, and even through his wheezing, he was still managing to talk trash about everyone else.
Honestly, my only thought at the time was—just get him off the stage already.
Nicholas King said:That's completely outdated. It’s essentially dead in the water at this point.
I’m pretty sure there could be some grounds to really call him out—like if we just found out now that the fire was actually arson.
Jonathan Barnes5 said:President Harmon was just one part of a system that included many leaders operating under the same playbook, yet people always seem to find a way to single him out, treating him as the sole architect of everything wrong with America by focusing on his specific methods. It’s ironic because while he might have been influenced by foreign styles, those who constantly attack Harmon ignore that he actually set the precedent for that kind of asset grabbing during that era.
This baseless bashing of Harmon is really just a symptom of a larger issue within a politically illiterate public—people who struggle to see the forest for the trees and prefer to cherry-pick facts to suit their own narrow perspectives.
The paradox runs even deeper when you consider that his true political opponents, who once fought over things like rebranding sports clubs, rarely do so today because they are deeply invested in the stability of the state. Meanwhile, while some faced real hardships and physical tolls back then, others were being handed apartments just for playing along. Today, the ones who truly struggled rarely speak up about that period, while the others continue to howl and tear down Harmon indefinitely. It is quite an interesting contradiction.
They're talking trash about the man who—as his fans love to call him—is the Father of the Homeland and the founder of the state. Which, conveniently, makes him the origin of every single problem and the primary culprit for what this country has turned into.
He’s the one who built a criminal political party that was basically a breeding ground for corruption. During his first ten years in power, he's the one who wrecked the economy, created a privileged elite, and saw honest people's lives ruined simply because they spoke up against criminality and immorality—including pointing out the money that poor guy, who supposedly lived in poverty until just before his term, was hiding in accounts away from the public eye.
And so it goes; thanks to this politically stunted population, France gets treated like some kind of demi-god, even though he's an old, crooked crook who started the downward spiral of this country, along with all the criminal scum he surrounded himself with.
coppereagle17 said:Now I just connect all those dots to one single guy, Smith, who was running things from 2012 to 2020.
He managed to pull strings through two different administrations.
I only mentioned that recent case because if I started listing every mess made since his death, this post would be a novel.
If we blamed all these issues on Franjo Harmon and his family, we’d actually be living in Switzerland.
Actually, no—he only stayed on under one specific administration. It was the Republican Party that kept extending his mandate. And they did it twice.
But even if you want to focus strictly on how long he was pulling these stunts, it’s still a shorter window than the corruption we saw back under Franjo's watch.
I don't really see how the two are connected, unless your whole point was to show what happens when you let corrupt people off the hook instead of dealing with them when they first step out of line.
I was just sitting here thinking about how much things have shifted lately, and I couldn't help but reflect on some of the conversations we've been having around here. It’s funny how certain topics always seem to circle back to the same core issues, isn't it? I remember reading an old article in The New York Times a few years ago that touched on something very similar to what we're seeing now, and looking back, it feels like we were staring right at the tip of the iceberg. It’s a bit overwhelming sometimes, trying to make sense of all the noise. I tend to take things slow, processing one piece of news at a time, rather than getting swept up in the immediate frenzy. There’s a certain quietness to observing these shifts from a distance, though I know that's easier said than done when everyone is shouting. Anyway, I just wanted to share those thoughts—it felt like a good moment to pause and breathe. kaže:
Božidar Longin
We've got the documents right in front of us: a Republican county official reportedly beat two American soldiers into unconsciousness back in the 90s.
I was just catching up on some news regarding the recent developments within the Republican Party, and it feels like things are shifting faster than anyone expected. There’s a lot of noise surrounding the internal power struggles right now, especially with how different factions are trying to carve out their own influence. It reminds me of those old political dramas you see on TV, where everyone thinks they have the winning hand until the floor suddenly drops out from under them. I saw a few people talking about this online earlier. hollowmason64 mentioned how much the current momentum might change the upcoming primary season, and I can see where they're coming from. It’s not just about policy anymore; it’s becoming deeply personal between the leadership and the grassroots supporters. I remember back when I was volunteering for a local campaign in Chicago, we had a similar rift—one group wanted to play it safe and moderate, while the other wanted to go full throttle. That tension never really goes away; it just changes shape. Even the analysts at The New York Times are picking up on the friction. They noted that the traditional hierarchy is being challenged by newer voices who aren't afraid to call out the establishment. It’s a bit messy, sure, but honestly, a little chaos can be healthy for a party if it forces them to actually listen to what the voters are feeling on the ground. George Robinson43 brought up an interesting point about whether the party can actually maintain unity once the dust settles. It’s a fair question. If they can’t find common ground soon, they might find themselves heading into the general election more divided than ever. I’m keeping a close eye on how the leadership handles the next round of fundraising and endorsements. It’ll be telling to see who stays loyal and who starts looking for a new seat at the table.
-----
Looking back over thirty-two years of this whole political circus, I’ve come to a pretty heavy conclusion: the people in the Republican Party are actually worse than the insurgents from the old wars.
If someone like that can actually climb the ranks in the Republican Party, it really says everything you need to know about the state of that organization.
You didn't exactly need to read that article to know the type of people signing up for that party. It’s always the absolute bottom of the barrel. And then you have this guy—just totally shameless, really—claiming he couldn't care less about the past because he's "focused on the future." Give me a break.
I’m honestly just wondering where those two bribed guys were at the time. I can't help but think they might have been the ones who really gave that idiot a beating.

Instead, this whole shameless pack of politicians just keeps this criminal lot in power, day in and day out.
Anthony Rodriguez8 said:Unfortunately, this kind of logic seems to be completely foreign to most people out there. Honestly, I just don't get it. To think that physical appearance should carry any weight in a decision like that... I truly struggle to comprehend what sort of mindset one must possess to let something so superficial dictate their choice in a situation like this. It’s the exact same pattern we're seeing now.

Yeah, I saw a bunch of them leaving comments like, "No way am I voting for that eyesore" or "I can't stand looking at that disaster..." Honestly, you have to look at what they're actually talking about to get why people are reacting that way.
People can be such idiots sometimes. 🙄
Nicholas King said:I honestly don't understand why people act so surprised by the existence of these local power brokers who have ruled their domains for decades.
Take, for instance, Bash Voda—there, a local kingpin can secure his grip on power with just, what, maybe a thousand votes? In the last local elections, he was facing off against nothing more than a single independent candidate; and in the ones before that, it was just him versus the Democratic Party. Of course, the Democratic Party completely tanked (I mean, I doubt anyone actually wants to vote for those communists), while that independent underdog managed to scrape together about 25% of the vote.
Over the years, this long-standing mayor has almost certainly built up a massive web of "his people" at every level of local government, all while cultivating the reputation of being "the guy who knows everyone, from the County office all the way up in Washington, D.C."—and, let’s be honest, it’s always useful to be on good terms with the people who hold all the strings. To make matters even more obvious, the daughter of one specific long-term mayor served as a member of Congress—so, in the eyes of the voters, he clearly comes across as someone with deep, influential connections even more so.
On the flip side, you have the local business owners and restaurateurs, who exist in this strange cocktail of fear and hope: the fear that if they dare to step out of line, they might—by some unfortunate accident, of course—receive a notice that their business license is being revoked (and it goes without saying that they rely heavily on those licenses to survive), or perhaps face constant, relentless inspections of every little thing, or maybe something else entirely... And then there's the hope that the mayor might offset a hike in lease prices by turning a blind eye elsewhere—maybe letting them squeeze in an extra two or three tables, or allowing them to stay open an hour or two later.
Add to that a segment of the electorate that views a vote for the Republican Party as their personal contribution to the eternal struggle against the old guard, Mexicans, and any return to America, and there you have your explanation.
I totally get the mindset you’re describing, but honestly, most people just don't think that way. If you actually sit down and look at the raw data—comparing the total number of registered voters against those who consistently back the same old power players—you won't find anyone pulling in more than a third of the vote. It's wild to me that everyone else just stays home. Personally? I’d head to the polls and vote for anyone—whether they're a hardcore communist, some guy with ties to foreign interests, or whatever. I really don't care. As long as someone finally breaks up that decades-long cycle of theft and corruption, I'm in. We can always worry about who comes next during the following election.
That’s exactly what I was arguing back during the Bandic era—the absolute priority has to be breaking that continuity.

The recent post from the Belomanastir Republican Party about fixing a single water fountain in the middle of town was almost comical.
People have lost faith that things can actually improve, and I feel like you can really sense that hopelessness settling in across the Midwest now.
We've reached a point where people are actually celebrating a "renovated" fountain; I mean, back in the Middle Ages, maybe that would have been considered an achievement, but is that really supposed to be a competitive advantage over the other party in this day and age?!
As I've mentioned before, any sense of quality has been totally destroyed, and they're selling people absolute nonsense that somehow manages to pass for progress.
It's truly pathetic.
I have a feeling you might be getting closest to the whole truth here.
