Maybe one chocolate suitcase cake, one Black Forest, and then maybe a fruit one? I haven't actually reached out to any local bakeries yet—so I’m not totally sure if they can pull this off—but that’s the dream, anyway. And hey, if those suitcase cakes end up being too small to feed everyone, I guess I can always just have a backup cake or two on standby.

I wasn't sure if you were asking whether different tiers or a specific shape would actually work.
I know a bakery that can definitely handle it—highly recommend them based on past experience: sweet secret 😉

Lawrence Wilson77, I’ve been scouring the web for a bit, but nothing worthwhile turned up 😢
Is any of this actually your style?

A friend of mine deals with diabetes, so she’s getting her slice of cake at my wedding, no exceptions. I'll make sure one layer is sugar-free 😍

I had some cake from Magnolia Bakery at a wedding last summer. Honestly? Absolute perfection.
Dark sponge with cherries paired with a light one with strawberries. Topped with fondant—which I can't stand—but I still managed to polish off two slices. 😍

Adonia, I know you live for a challenge, so here’s a little one for you 😉

Do you happen to have a photo of a cake like this? It’s completely covered in dark chocolate ganache, but the icing looks like a mosaic—or shattered... I don't even know how to describe it, ugh... it's as if someone struck the cake and the glaze just cracked everywhere. It looks a bit like parched earth splitting open under the sun... anyway, hope that makes sense 🤣

mali OT—I saw a cake exactly like that on a reality TV show I watched a few months back. Great show, really. Two couples were competing, and their whole task was to plan each other's weddings. One couple had to pick absolutely everything for the other—the dress, the suit, the venue, the cake, the flowers... and they chose that specific cake. They actually ended up getting married using those exact arrangements 😬
I would love a cake like that 😢

Those cakes they were showing off? They were nothing more than Styrofoam blocks sprayed with a thin layer of frosting👎 so please, don't go getting your hopes up—I know plenty of people who have been left completely disappointed after trying to order from them.😉

Personally, I can't recommend them enough. 😍
They did the wedding cake for a friend and even handled the catering for office parties at my old job. Not a single crumb was left behind.🙂

I actually had my heart set on a cake like that too, but honestly, it feels like nobody in my area does anything that avant-garde... such a shame!

She makes cakes like these. Truly remarkable. I remember seeing a similar spread at a gala in Chicago once—unforgettable, if a bit excessive. A little secret. Just one. Always ends badly. They had her on display at the trade show, but there isn't a single photo of her on the website. Typical.

Maybe try asking if they’re making a fondant cake for another wedding. If so, see if you can swing by to check it out before the delivery goes out.
If we're allowed to flip through photo albums and browse bridal boutiques, why on earth wouldn't we be able to look at cakes? 😬

Let's get back on track: in your honest opinion, which desserts are absolute "NO GOs" at a wedding?

Edit: excluding peach cobbler, obviously. 😬

I can't stand that gritty, sugary crunch under my teeth—that’s why I hate peach cobbler and anything remotely similar. My husband, on the other hand, lives for them. Looks like we're going to have an issue there.😬

On the flip side, chocolate chip cookies are non-negotiable for me. Zachary Gray35, you really let me down by leaving those out.🤣 😉

Hitched myself to a wedding expo today. Those favor boxes are priced at $1.00 per unit—special deal for both large and small sizes—over at that studio in Central City that handles everything from invitations to thank-you notes. Name escapes me...

I’ve already vouched for sweet secret out of that Suburban town for dessert favors. Their sweets are top-tier, just pricey at $27/kg. That said, I stumbled upon some pastries from the Mouse bakery over by the Riverbank near Indianapolis at the last expo. Absolutely delicious, and only $18/kg. They were solid back then, and I bet they still are 🙂

Nutrapek is also exhibiting at this show, though I haven't had a chance to sample their 😢

The best wedding cake I’ve had in ages was from Vince Lombardi; each layer was split in two—one dark sponge with cherries, the other a light sponge with strawberries... simple, yet absolutely stunning 👍

I'm no alcoholic, but I want to know if a few drinks at a party are fine.

My doctor pressured me to quit smoking, but she never said a word about alcohol.

First time wearing contacts went smoothly, thanks to one vital piece of advice from my PhD supervisor: ''Don't stare at the lens on your finger; look at your eye in the mirror.'' 😬

gentlecanyon92 said:Look, here’s my take on it...

Pull the hard lens out of the solution, rinse it with water, pop it on your finger—never had one stick to me, thank God 😛—and get it on the eye in under 0.2 seconds.

The damn things have never stuck to my finger; they just wobble around on there soaked in fluid. No way I'm putting a dry lens in my eye—that would be like shoving a razor blade into my eyeball. And what kind of water are you even rinsing them with?

gentlecanyon92 said:Soft lenses are bigger. You practically have to gouge your eye out to get them in right 😁, unless you're some kind of owl. Taking soft ones out: you need two fingers on the eye to grab the lens, squish it, and yank it out 🤦

Digging around in my eye was never an issue for me. Doesn't hurt when I put them in or take them out. I can even do it without a mirror, which I could never manage with the hard lenses. Removing them? Fine. Putting them in? Forget it.

gentlecanyon92 said:Well, to each their own, I guess.😁

Exactly.👍

gentlecanyon92 The user said:What kind of soft lenses are you even wearing? 🤣 So, what kind of semi-hard are we talking about here? Just asking. 😲

I don't quite get what's supposed to be funny here... or why it's so confusing and unsettling. 🤔

The routine for putting in soft contacts—back when I actually wore them, though I doubt anything has changed since then—was always a mess. You’d fish the lens out of the solution, perch it on your fingertip, and carefully drop a bit of liquid into the center. Then comes the hard part: trying to slide it onto your eye without spilling the drop or having the damn thing slip right off your finger. It happened to me constantly. Just a total headache.
Soft lenses. I pull them from the solution, let them settle perfectly on my fingertip, and move toward my eye without any unnecessary rush. Voila. It’s always been that simple for me.

Removing a soft contact lens: you just push the outer eyelid aside and let the pressure from your lid pop it right out. Of course, half the time I’d scratch my eye or try to fix my makeup and that lens would slide right into the corner. Once it gets stuck up there, it’s useless on its own—I always ended up having to fish it out with the suction tool.
I squeeze the soft contact lens by its edges and pull it out. It’s exhausting. Before, they used to skitter off into the darkest corners of my eye, only deciding to come home on their own schedule. 😁

Soft contacts just seem simpler to me. Honestly, I don't see the point in overcomplicating things. 😬

And during what timeframe did yours spike like that?
Mine jumped from 0.5 to 3.5, but that took eight years. My doctor says it isn't even a drastic change. 😁

How much does your prescription actually jump?

I stuck with RGP lenses for about two years before a corneal inflammation flared up—doctors blame the lenses, though I doubt they're the only culprit—so I switched to soft ones.
Soft lenses are way easier to pop in and out, much more comfortable, too... but then again, some doctors used to swear by RGPs just to keep the eye "active." Back in high school when I first started wearing them, the explanation I got was basically, "keep the eye working so it doesn't get lazy." 😁
Supposedly RGPs allow better oxygen flow, but honestly, that’s just the same old line they fed me years ago.
Your best bet is to get the latest word from your doctor. 🙂 Personally, I'm all about the soft lenses just for the comfort factor.
