That’s a shame. Don't sweat it though; you'll stumble upon something better eventually.

A bag of M&M's should lift your spirits with that chocolate goodness, and honestly, grab some cheesecake or a walnut tart too—sugar cures just about everything. 😉

William Parker61 said:Ladies, I’ve officially decided on a four-chocolate wedding cake from Sugarland. However, I stopped by for some treats yesterday, and what she served was honestly terrible. Now I am feeling incredibly conflicted. Usually, their quality is excellent, but what if I end up with a batch this bad on my actual wedding day?
I think I’ll head over to M&M's just to try their options, just to be safe.

Ugh, if I were you, I wouldn't touch Sugarland. If I sample a cake and hate it, then they mess up the order on my big day? I'd die of pure frustration knowing I chose them.

Heading there this weekend to try that miracle. 😘

And I assume "triffle" is a typo—you mean truffle?

Mystery solved: a chocolate trifle is just that cake I've always known as chocolate mousse, and I absolutely love it. 👍

swiftranger16 said:Honestly, reading your posts makes me love M&M's even more... even if those fructose cupcakes are getting ridiculously pricey, whatever, they're worth it.

Daniel Smith8, if you get a chance, could you please find out how much their cakes are?

Why didn't you say so? I completely blanked on the desserts.😬

Here’s what they emailed me:

Wedding pastries: they have mini fruit tarts, mini baskets, macarons, truffles, peach delights, honey cake, German chocolate cake, fudge brownies, Mozart bites, chocolate truffles, coconut squares, checkerboard bars, and walnut-coconut nests...
- plated $40/lb
- in boxes $37/lb

Cream cakes (8 varieties available) $33/lb
Tea cookies $27/lb

Expensive or cheap—it doesn't matter. I only have one friend with diabetes, so I'll just grab five small cakes for her. Better safe than sorry.😍

boldbison32 said:Our wedding cake was actually from Mars, Inc.—it was a chocolate trifle, served chilled. Personally, I thought it was even better than the parfait, more like a rich mousse. I'd highly recommend giving it a try. Even six months after the wedding, my friends are still raving about how amazing that cake was!😉

It’s nothing short of highway robbery.
Sure, fructose might run you double what regular sugar does, but that doesn't mean the price of the entire pastry should skyrocket accordingly...

Agreed. No logic there.
Sadly, it's just like most things in this country. I won't complain too loudly though—I don't eat enough of those treats to care, so I'll just pay their extortionate price and move on.

It's September 7th. We’re counting down together 😁

The local bakery sent me quotes for a cake that were practically identical, and their cookies are going for $27/lb.

I want everything finalized by June to avoid any last-minute panic. 😬

A few weeks back, I started reaching out to local bakeries, sending over photos of the cake designs I'm looking for to see who could actually give me a decent quote. The most affordable option was Mars, Inc.; they’re reliable too, since we’ve been ordering their treats for years. We’ll likely go with a few different parfait flavors—they were kind enough to let us sample almost everything during our meeting. I remember reading on a forum ages ago that their chilled parfait is basically like ice cream, which works perfectly because nobody would agree to make the specific ice cream cake I had in mind. So, the parfait it is.
I'm also weighing the mousse option; their stuff is honestly incredible. 😍

The price for cupcakes is $5.00/each, or $10/each for the diabetic version.

We'll grab the other desserts from either Musk ($20/lb) or Absalom ($18/lb) over in Columbus, though I'm not sure if they offer diabetic-friendly options.

Side note: when is your wedding?

swiftranger16 said:I don't have any doubts about this... part of the cake at our reception needs to be made with fructose because we have guests with diabetes, and honestly, it’s just a healthier choice for everyone else too.

I haven't actually started reaching out to bakeries yet since the wedding isn't until July, so it feels a bit early, but I'm definitely doing my homework.

It’s not exactly common to see fructose being used for wedding desserts, so I'm trying to figure out who even does this and what their experience has been like.

We’re going with cupcakes from M&M's in Ann Arbor, and they'll make some of them diabetic-friendly. No clue how their sweets hold up.

Our wedding is also in July. 😉

Check out the thread on standard portions if you want some guidance. They suggest about half a pound per person for the reception cake, though I'm not entirely sure about home servings or leftovers.
A local bakery will likely give you their take, or you could just call up a catering company in town and ask what they’d recommend.

If you can pack up some leftovers from the restaurant to take home, why wouldn't you? Give some to your parents, save some for yourself... most of my friends had a little get-together at someone's house the night after the wedding to recap everything, and we ended up picking at the lamb, roasted pig, and wedding cake all night long. 😬
Granted, you're doing a lunch, but people might still swing by later in the evening.

Look, I have a certain limit $5.00/slices. You usually prep a few more than the guest count, but don't go overboard... honestly, I haven't been to a wedding where a third of the cake wasn't left over, regardless of how good it tasted 😬

Donna Chase12 said:I wasn't really looking to factor in those flashy, high-end followers either—mostly because my chair was way too expensive to be playing social experiments with random strangers. I mean, sure, I've had some decent engagement from people who aren't exactly "influencers," but they weren't exactly pulling any massive numbers for the seat, either... but whatever, totally irrelevant to what we're talking about here

Oh, and one more thing... for some reason, the cupcakes were actually way better than the actual cake. I honestly have no clue why...🤷

Probably just because there’s more sludge around them. Always happens that way. 😂

silverscout91 said:Daniel Smith8, if I recall correctly, you were asking about Orizent. I just wanted to mention that they don't really do traditional wedding cakes or sell sweets by the pound. Instead, they offer four varieties of mini cookies, two types of pastry baskets—one chocolate and one fruit-based—and four different kinds of small creamy pastries. The price for the mini cookies is $1.25 per piece, while those cream pastries go for $3.25 each.

I did, but I wouldn't bother asking them about cookies. I need a cake. Do you happen to have their number?

Donna Chase12 said:We actually planned for a much smaller turnout, which worked out perfectly for us... honestly, a huge chunk of my girls were either pregnant or dealing with tiny newborns, plus you had the older crowd, people living overseas, folks missing out due to surgeries, illnesses, or family deaths—and some just didn't show because I couldn't make it up to them either... basically, hitting 122 guests was a win in our book... and I didn't even have a final headcount until like two days before the wedding
Daniel Smith8, we didn't even count any new partners or people who weren't really "official" yet... if we had, that number would've jumped by another 30 or so people
and yeah—don't forget to factor in the band, the photographer, the videographer...

Look, I’m counting, whatever happens, happens. If they bring a plus-one, great. If not, also great.
The band, the photographer, and the videographer are already included in my count.

If I'm having cupcakes, I'll definitely grab about ten extra mini cakes. We're going to eat the big cake ourselves, so there will be more minis for the guests, and maybe a slice of the big one will be left over for later at home.🙂

Donna Chase12 said:Come on, let me know what she actually said to you

Monica got back to me. She wants me to swing by the bakery in person just to talk pricing. Wedding cake is set at $27, plus $1.00 per mile for delivery.

Got a few other quotes too. Right now, M&M is the frontrunner—their pastries are incredible, and they're practically my neighbors over in 😍. I completely blanked on them at first, but here we are...

Just waiting for the next food expo to try those treats from Absum again. Fingers crossed they're actually good this time.

Oh, and Vincek bumped up the price on those mini cakes listed online to $11 each (they were only $9.25 last time). They did mention some chocolate cups filled with that raspberry dessert they usually sell. Those would be about 15-$6.00 a piece. Not a bad deal, I suppose.

Honestly, my experience with all the jewelers, bakeries, and gift shops I've emailed has been seamless. Everyone responds fast and everyone's polite. 👍

Donna Chase12 said:Look, just go with your gut on the quantities—do whatever you think makes sense. Honestly, I overbought on the snacks because I was paranoid about running out, and now look at me—I'm handing them out to everyone like crazy. We could've saved some decent cash if I hadn't panicked. It’s funny how much money you end up blowing on stuff you don't even need just because you're worried there won't be enough...
And yeah—hang tight for a bit until you see the actual turnout from people. In my case, I ended up with 50 fewer people than what the RSVP list originally said.

Fifty people? That’s a massive gap. Any idea why they bailed?
I’m currently staring at spreadsheets, trying to figure out the cake order and thank-you notes based on actual headcount. We have about 140 names on the guest list, but I’m banking on closer to 120. I’ve been counting everyone plus their plus-ones—even if those partners aren't officially "in" yet, there's still plenty of time before the wedding.🙂

I don't know, but that other cake option is just too damn good to pass up. I'm genuinely torn. 😍
Maybe a hybrid approach—bake some mini cupcakes and then use the big one as a centerpiece on top.

God, why am I overthinking this? It’s just a cake that people will inhale in twenty minutes anyway. 😬

Daniel Smith8, you've totally put my mind at ease! 😍 I completely blanked on the whole "just serve cookies" backup plan... Are you planning on setting up stations on different floors too?

I'm torn between a massive tiered cake and just doing smaller individual ones. Still haven't made up my mind. Right now, I'm just collecting quotes from local bakeries and I'll decide once the numbers come in.

BTW, I am a sucker for a good cheesecake. 😍
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
I’m thinking chocolate and fruit parfaits. Might throw in a third flavor—something like Black Forest or vanilla. If anyone isn't a fan, there will be plenty of cookies 😉
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
Donna Chase12, I sent an inquiry over to Monica. I'll see what she says about the cake—flavor, presentation, all that jazz. 😉
I'm truly glad you were satisfied. 🙂

Does anyone have the email address for the local orientation office? Send it my way via DM if you do.
