Seriously, traveling from the US to Austria takes hours, getting to Vienna takes three days, and reaching Linz would take two months.

Geographically speaking, Austria is way closer to the territory of Chicago than Novi Sad is, plus both Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Lollapalooza are far away both spatially and timing-wise.

Every band goes wherever they get called, unless they decide they really need a day off. AC/DC knows they’re huge in America and they definitely won't turn down a gig if they're invited and the terms are right.

You honestly don't know what you're talking about.

First off, it doesn't matter if something is "territorially" close or far (I assume you meant "geographically," but whatever). The point is that a band the size of Arcade Fire doesn't need to chase gigs or play festivals two or three days in a row without a break.

Second, this idea that some band "knows they're popular in America" is just some little kid's fantasy. Bands don't worry about that stuff; their management does. And Arcade Fire's management knows they're popular everywhere (I mean, even you've heard of them), so at this stage, it's all just numbers—ticket sales, crowd sizes, and all that...

And finally, if a major festival like Lollapalooza announces Arcade Fire as a headliner, there's a pretty good chance (not saying it's impossible, but it's likely) that they signed an exclusive deal with them.

I'd love for reality to prove me wrong, but I doubt it will.

Man, you guys can totally forget about it. It’s obvious Lollapalooza has some kind of regional exclusivity deal going on. Besides, these artists aren't just gonna play day after day—they aren't robots, you know? They need to sleep, grab a drink, eat something... plus, they have to travel all the way from the States over to America.

Yeah, right—like AT&T actually needs the cash from ticket sales just to cover the deposits for the bands.

That's exactly why you’re never gonna hear a post-rock band played on our local stations. It’s just not that kind of music—it’s not exactly "everyone can enjoy this" territory, I guess. Like, imagine if they actually played something like Mogwai on an American station like KROQ? People would lose their minds immediately. They’d be calling in like, "What on earth are you playing? We'd rather listen to Milivoj Lulek drone on for eight minutes straight." 😁

I mean, I think you're totally wrong about the deadline. They wouldn't even bother calling people—honestly, who cares? Maybe they'd switch up the station or whatever. Look, if this was some heavy metal mosh pit kind of thing, then sure, maybe they'd reach out and ask what's up, but since it's just decent post-rock, it would probably fly under the radar. People basically just listen to whatever's playing on the radio and assume that's what's "modern" or trending, so they're pretty much willing to jump on board with anything—even the stuff that's a bit harder to digest, like Mogwai or Peach Pit. 🙂

Yeah, okay, I guess there's a bit of an issue with song length—like, most US radio stations can barely handle anything over four minutes without losing people—but hey, they still have those late-night slots to play with.

Man, I don't know—I really wish I could catch Arcade Fire live again. The word on the street is they might actually make an appearance this time around, which would be huge. Honestly, I’d love to see Belle and Sebastian too, even though I'm already planning to catch them out in New York this April. But man, getting to see both of them within two months? That would pretty much be the dream.
