Everything seems to be falling apart on my end lately. For instance, the message thread in my PM-ovs completely vanished because of some mess involving the div.panel tbody td element. Good grief, I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they pushed this update...
So much has gone to hell lately. The subforum headers have turned blindingly white, and now this quick reply box is practically glowing with all that glare...
Let’s be honest, anyone running an ad blocker isn't even seeing those ads anyway, so what's the point?
Furthermore, if you look at almost any other major forum out there in the States, they typically tuck their advertisements into the second post down the page rather than slapping them onto the side like this—it's a standard design choice specifically meant to prevent layout issues and that awkward visual asymmetry. It feels like someone is currently messing around with the site's CSS, because while it doesn't look quite as lopsided as it did before, it's still far from ideal...
What was the reasoning behind this change? Seriously, why? What is the logic behind locking it at a fixed 1100 pixels? It’s completely off-center, that stark white background is an eyesore, and it’s far too wide for a standard 1024 layout—so what exactly was the goal here?

New avatar dimensions are 75x75 pixels, with a max file size of 30,000 bytes—roughly 29.3 kB. We’ve moved up from the old 50x50 and 10,000 byte limit.
Use this space to swap tips on profile design and debate what actually looks good. I recommend using a full 75x75 square to keep everything uniform, similar to how social media sites handle it, just for a cleaner look overall.
Basic workflow: once you find an image you want to use, first crop it into a square, then resize it down to 75x75. After that, maybe tweak the sharpness or contrast to make it pop.
Most Reddit users (over 95%) are running macOS and have access to tools that can handle this. But let's be honest, there are much better apps than the basic stuff.
If you want it even easier, just use web apps designed specifically for these tasks. One decent option is http://www.webresizer.com/.
Jump in and share advice or help each other out with new designs. It would be useful to cover topics like making transparent avatars, creating animations, finding helpful graphic web apps, or building galleries...
Looking at the moderator sub-forum where we tested these new sizes, the result is great. 🙂 The avatars stand out more and offer way more creative freedom.
It is worth noting that an immense amount of imagery available online isn't actually free to use, much like how one wouldn't just walk into a dealership and drive off with a Ford without paying; you really have to watch yourself to avoid infringing on someone else's intellectual property. Stealing what belongs to others is fundamentally wrong, so please ensure whatever you decide to utilize is strictly royalty-free.
Is it possible for me to request that my partial ban be lifted here in the States? I first sought this remedy back when my patience finally snapped—following what I can only describe as "stellar" moderation from a certain individual who targeted me via private message to both PP Sash and mellowraven22. At the time, my request was flatly denied. However, I eventually received a partial ban after losing my cool following a situation where I was singled out for an issue that half a dozen other moderators, including the site administrator, had already cleared. It’s quite the irony: the admin was busy calling someone a brainless teenager, yet I was the one handed a disciplinary warning just for suggesting that person seek actual professional medical help.
It’s always the same crowd responsible for tearing down online communities—those people who insist on cluttering half their screen with neon green, purple, and yellow fonts at size 80, all while attaching tiny little image files that refuse to cache properly on the client side. Rather than introducing some half-baked formatting tool, we should just scrap signatures entirely. Honestly, avatars are a much smaller headache by comparison.
I had my profile picture up, but then they came knocking and demanded I take it down just because they thought it might scare off the minors browsing the forum.
The left unit measures 175 feet across, which means there is more than enough breathing room to work with. I’m all for this proposal, even if I personally have my display settings set to hide avatars.
I’m throwing my hat in the ring on this request while I still have a window of opportunity to swap out my front door before the temperature plunges to twenty below—otherwise, I'll be stuck stuffing towels under the frame just to keep the draft from freezing me out.
It’s not exactly a catastrophic issue, but it is incredibly irritating. Shoot me a DM once you've cleared it, and I'll jump on and cancel all my subscriptions within a few minutes of your message. 🙂
I occasionally find myself getting hit with notification emails for new posts in subforums where I only hold partial access. Naturally, there isn't a single option to unsubscribe from these specific threads, which makes the whole process feel like being trapped in a loop without an exit strategy. Is this just some fundamental glitch in the forum's architecture, or am I missing something?
hollowtrucker77 said:Jesse Sanchez4, I have to be honest, I’m not entirely following your logic here. Is the site actually going to hand over your username and email from the profile, or is it leaking your AOL Instant Messenger details?? In my experience, when people try to reach out via Skype, their handle is right there on the screen for everyone to see.
They get your username and the email you used to register. It’s like a digital paper trail; I actually dug through my browser history to find the specific URL the site uses to redirect you, so I’ll paste it here—though I'll break it up slightly so the system doesn't turn it into a clickable link automatically:
Locate someone with an ICQ icon over on the left and give it a click. The forum will immediately push your username and email address straight to the ICQ server. I couldn't care less about any potential lawsuits, but honestly, it would be quite reasonable if there were some way to disable this feature entirely.
Paul Green31 said:Posting email addresses in threads is strictly prohibited because it violates federal privacy laws and electronic signature regulations. Since the forum acts as the publisher of this content and carries legal liability for everything posted, they are clearly obligated to scrub those details to stay compliant with the law.
And what about the part where the forum hands my email address over to some third party without ever asking for my permission first?
I don't want to start a whole new thread here, but could someone please investigate what else, besides the ICQ icon, is causing this forum to leak usernames and email addresses to third parties without user consent? Is there any way to disable all these data-sharing features at once?
Choosing whether or not to download a vCard is one thing, but this was anything but a choice, and frankly, I’m far from thrilled about it. I clicked the icon, and suddenly my email was being forwarded to people who will almost certainly start flooding my inbox with spam.
So, here’s the reality: users aren't allowed to post their email addresses, which essentially cuts off their ability to maintain any meaningful connection with people. It leaves a massive loophole wide open—what stops someone from simply spinning up a fake account and feeding a fraudulent email address to the very people this user was building rapport with, just so they can dig up private info or cause absolute chaos?
Furthermore, permitting people to drop their Skype, MSN, or ICQ handles is actually a much larger security headache. A good portion of those services feature public web profiles that used to display a wealth of personal data, including full names and emails. You could easily deduce, for instance, that Sash isn't currently logged into Skype or even active on the forum at all.
But here is the real kicker: if you happen to click on someone's ICQ icon, the site passes your own email address directly to the ICQ network 😁 Pretty interesting, wouldn't you say? I learned that lesson the hard way by clicking one of those icons, and now ICQ has linked my forum handle to my actual email address, so please, don't make my mistake. I’d bet anything that the spam is going to start hitting my inbox shortly.
At the very least, let the permanent bans have some way to leave contact information.
Do you honestly think I should have to waste my own precious time *rephrasing* an entire news report just because I can't copy-paste it without running into copyright issues? And all this because you guys had some run-ins with trolls years ago and decided to overcorrect? Honestly, I wouldn't dream of it...
We’ve already danced this dance recently. People who want to cause trouble will always find a way—whether they're trashing other news outlets or forcing legitimate users to constantly block various URL shorteners. In the end, it's always the well-intentioned users who get caught in the crossfire.
