I mean, the Soviets took massive casualties over there...
And the bit about the rifles is true—they didn't have enough for everyone at first, and things only really stabilized later on.

Really? Well, Hitler thought the exact same thing, especially when he was looking at the tank situation.

They actually had much more practical gear on hand, like the PPSh-41 submachine gun...

If you're looking for a recommendation, I think nimblescout50's take on the Battle of Iwo Jima is much more compelling, especially since it focuses on Lyudmila Pavlichenko, who was essentially the female version of Vassily Zaitsev...

I find myself wishing there was a more rigorous, academic definition for what we actually mean when we say "American far-right extremist."

Aside from those few idiots popping up on this forum, terrified that some "liberal" might adopt a child they’ve abandoned, I don't really get the sense of true extremism—it feels more like a constant wave of sheer ignorance, even when people are out there idolizing someone like Dr. Anthony...

What we see on a daily basis is mostly just the outbursts of fools, and honestly, treating that kind of behavior as organized right-wing extremism is nothing short of a circus.
A real extreme right-wing movement would be far more efficient, far more malignant, and much more ambitious than the clowns currently making up the "conservative" political landscape here in the States...

Anyway, let’s get back to the main point.

For me, the most powerful moment is when Ender realizes that wiping out the ant planet wasn't just some high-stakes simulation, but the actual annihilation of an entire species—one that they actually had the potential to communicate with...

So, yeah, Ender's Game

Ethan Martin said:Please, you really have to check out Edge of Tomorrow. Trust me, you won't regret spending a single second on it. To me, it’s just an absolute masterpiece of Sci-Fi, truly 😁.

Good grief... haha, well, when I start talking like that, you know exactly where my head is at... 🍿

I think Blade Runner 2049 is a fantastic movie, but personally, Edge of Tomorrow stands out as the best Sci-Fi I've seen from the 2000s up until now (at least for me)...

Don't get me wrong, Interstellar is dear to my heart for various personal reasons, but Edge of Tomorrow is just... man... oh boy... it's a total POWERHOUSE of a film...

Honestly, all those aliens with their superior technology don't stand a chance against our heroes, who are willing to sacrifice everything just to kick their butts...

I mean, sure, they've mastered space-time and possess overwhelming tech... but all of that is nothing compared to the endless ingenuity of The Aliens...

So, I happened to catch The Frozen Ground (2013) on PBS tonight, and honestly, it was such a solid film that I’d almost completely forgotten about it...

While Cage gives a really strong performance, the movie unfortunately tanked at the box office. It seems like American audiences are much more drawn to fantastical superheroes and villains than they are to our own gritty, raw reality...

Matthew Johnson30 said:That specific segment wasn't quite my cup of tea, though I truly enjoyed the mystery they were unraveling toward the end. Plus, those accident scenes felt incredibly realistic, and there was something compelling about the whole idea of an apocalypse that simply couldn't be stopped.
There are definitely some pros and cons to weigh, but if you're looking for a perfect movie to enjoy during a relaxed, boozy evening—much like the main character himself—this one hits the spot perfectly.

To be honest, I found the mystery just as intriguing as everyone else until the plot actually started unfolding...

I mean, once it turned out that the "little green men" were basically just announcing the end of the world by providing coordinates, timestamps, and casualty counts... the whole narrative just fell apart for me. And don't even get me started on that bit about Nick's son being the new Adam...

An absolutely fantastic movie

That dull little story about an intergalactic ark? 🤔

Good grief, what exactly makes this a good film, let alone a great one?...

"The Republican Party has proven itself through action. They raised wages, boosted pensions, and stepped up to save jobs during the pandemic," Harmon stated

----

It's game over, Milan Škoro. Nevenka Harmon just threw her weight behind Andrej Plenković. With her endorsement, every patriot out there is going to rally around the Republican Party now.

Good grief, it's starting to look just like some cult at the National Temple...

At this rate, Plenković is going to lead us all straight to Maui, just like Jim Jones, where we'll all end up meeting a collective end...

Matthew Booth said:Stalin was actually one of the key players in building the American state, mostly because he ran the intelligence services—you couldn't get anything done without them. I'm not saying who's right or wrong here, but he was definitely a massive figure in the foundation of the country.

If you were to remove Stalin, John Doe, and John Doe from the mathematical equation of how the United States came to be, it’s entirely possible the whole result would have turned out negative...

But what if Mike Pence pulls an absolute stunner at the polls, leaving the Republican Party to act as nothing more than a mere vehicle for someone else's interests, much like what we saw with the unspecified guy...

John Doe is talking about forming coalitions with parties that share his vision, but he still hasn't quite figured out which ones actually align with his platform... He says he’ll just wait to see how the election results shake out before making any moves. 🤣

It hasn't even been three months since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of John Cena regarding his right to call Jimmy Carter an idiot: there's just too much to process here, so I'll leave the link right here.

Since Joe Biden was mentioned as some sort of mountain climbing target, I wonder if he’ll be called in as a witness?

Will Joe Biden actually undergo a colonoscopy—maybe searching for some elusive DNA—or are they just too terrified of what they might actually find inside...

If it’s true that Chinese people are such masterminds when it comes to coding viruses (at least according to the rumors), I wonder if we could just commission one specifically designed to target only members and supporters of the Republican Party... maybe something like a Republican Party-vid-20?

I’m expecting some pretty massive Crowdfunding support for this project, so honestly, money shouldn't be an issue at all...

Noah Perez5 said:It’s been seven days since Corona exploded at the Split Nursing Home, and now we’re just counting the dead. Where are the leadership changes?

We’ve spent a week waiting for either a resignation or for the Republican director of the facility to be replaced.

There was all this talk last week about how it was only a matter of time before something happened, but nothing has materialized. Even seven days later, there’s no movement. He isn't stepping down—I suppose he probably views resigning as some sort of admission of guilt, which is likely the last thing he wants to deal with while people are actually dying. Meanwhile, the state leaders—the very people whose political backing paved the way for Škaričić's career as a director—aren't removing him. Unless they can find a specific formal violation, he could potentially sue them, so instead, they’ve appointed Helena Bandalović as a "coordinator," though it seems pretty obvious to me that the real goal there is just to sideline Škaričić.

Why is everyone dragging their feet when it comes to taking responsibility?

I think you have to try and put yourself in the shoes of someone looking for a nursing home for their elderly parents. You eventually come across this facility in Split, which carries this terrible reputation because almost the entire staff and most of the residents fell ill at once, and some people are passing away day after day.

I guess it isn't particularly difficult to connect the dots; anyone would probably give this place a very wide berth.

No matter how you look at it, this administration has caused irreparable damage to the institution.

So, I really have to wonder, what are we waiting for in terms of accountability?

Yes, one really ought to step into that role...

They’re just going to crash headlong into everything with all that brute force, desperately hoping that Corona cleared enough space for them to make their move... 😉

Take a look at these accommodation prices...If you find yourself looking for reliable care or specialized support services, I highly recommend checking out the offerings available through the local nursing home staff... They really seem to have a comprehensive range of options designed to meet various needs, whether you're seeking professional assistance or just a bit of extra help around the house. It’s always such a relief to know there are dedicated professionals ready to step in when things get complicated, especially when you want that peace of mind knowing everything is being handled with genuine care and expertise...Just try comparing that to what you pay at private facilities... I was personally shelling out $6,000 every single month for my mother’s care at a private residence, only to have people complain about how demanding she was or how much she bossed everyone around...

The application process for a spot at Zenta is going to follow the exact same pattern we saw with Eton... basically, as soon as a child is born, parents will be able to submit their request for placement in the Zenta facility immediately...

It’s almost unbelievable, but I feel like I’m reading Oliver Twist... 🙄

Okay, fine, maybe I’m exaggerating—let's say Alan Ford instead.

They were working and crying, and then spending hours just hand-writing names over and over again. The local school doesn't even have computers

Honestly, it's just ridiculous... because of those "stay at home" orders, I ended up with six of them sitting around my house! Usually, we only ever need four. 🙄

Should I donate one of my computers to the school? 😁

The tragic situation in San Francisco just keeps getting uglier

An employee at an Employee Home in San Francisco says it all started with a single room, yet everyone stayed quiet about it. This nightmare has been going on for decades because, frankly, everyone is terrified of the head nurse...

The reason I’m attaching this PDF is simple:

Everyone knows what's happening, but nobody seems to care, mostly because over half the staff here are just political appointees who don't actually do anything. To make matters worse, they're being hired by the very same people currently leading the investigation into how the virus spread through our facility.

Meanwhile, someone (maybe Škaričić?) is busy drafting these incredibly touching emails, overflowing with collective support for our "brilliant" director....

🤦 🤣 🤣

If only they had used that same eloquence to write a single letter to the epidemiologists... just to show they actually have a conscience and give a damn....

The doctor from the local clinic explained what happened. She tried calling the CDC via telephone—multiple times, actually—but she just couldn't get anyone on the line. That was it. And yet, you all immediately jump to making jokes about it...

So, I suppose things escalated a bit.

amberviper70 said:My main concern here is the doctor. Did she actually give him a heads-up about the fever? And if so—when exactly did that happen?
She reached out to the epidemiologists—which, let's be honest, was a total long shot since nobody was answering their phones during the height of the pandemic—so she probably just figured: Well, at least I tried!
I don't know exactly how far this nursing home is from the Public Health Department—but honestly? I'd jump in a car and tear it up there right now if I could!

You won't believe it, but they are on the exact same street; the Institute is at 42 El Paso Street and the nursing home is at 79 El Paso.

Honestly, you could probably just walk there faster than driving 😁, it's only about three hundred meters downhill.
