Bradley King said:It’s a remarkably well-oiled criminal enterprise, really. They’ve mastered the art of hiding behind the flag, using patriotism as a convenient little mask to keep things looking respectable. Honestly, they do their jobs quite well—if your definition of "job" involves infiltrating every single state institution until there's nothing left. It’s efficient, I’ll give them that. But seriously, what kind of fool actually believes they care about the country?

You take one look at those election results and you just realize how much of the world around you is being driven by absolute fools...

Adam Collins4 said:Let’s not go confusing the Republican Party with actual conservatives, if you please...

The Republican Party is really just a collection of local sellouts who wouldn't know the right wing if it hit them in the face...

I think you're getting at something similar to what Klauški argues here:

Marshall, Harmon, Plenković: Different eras, but the same patterns of governance

Franjo Harmon was essentially a student and follower of Marshall, and now they’re calling Andrej Plenković his closest successor. We try so hard to run away from our dark history, yet those old ways of doing things seem to haunt us at every turn as we move toward the future
...
Harmon modeled himself after Marshall, then Sanders and Karamarko followed Harmon's lead, and now Plenković is following in Harmon's footsteps. It feels like one cult of personality simply replaces the next—new monuments rise where old ones fell, and a new party takes the stage to replace the old one, but the methods and tactics stay the same, constantly recycled, copied, and adapted... and sometimes, quite frankly, even plagiarized.

Michael Jackson10 said:Newt Gingrich was never exactly the sharpest tool in the shed... now they’re overusing him so much he’s just getting duller by the day. You try acting all witty and smart, and all you do is make your own party look bad.🤦
And honestly, if he gets cut off mid-sentence, nobody's even going to bother finishing the thought...

See, this is exactly what politics boils down to.

You can be as dense or as clueless as you want, but as long as you stay strictly in line with your party's platform, your career is basically set in stone...

P.S.
Why am I getting such a strong sense of déjà vu here?🤔

Christian Torres3 said:Even America considered it, but the Beriev has some differences compared to the Canadair that make it less ideal for our needs.

That was actually an option once—trying to settle some old debts by picking up two Be-200s for about $70 million in claims. But, just like how almost everything involving the US Air Force seems to spiral into a massive scandal, this whole deal eventually turned into a mess too...

Now, sure, maybe it isn't the perfect fit for a spread-out coastline like ours, but Turkey doesn't have those same constraints, and it could actually be quite useful for them.
What if they decide to go ahead and plant massive fig orchards over there? The entire world would suffer from the loss of such a delicious treat... 😁

hiddeneagle98 said:So, here’s the deal: Turkey seems to have this massive stockpile of combat and reconnaissance drones, plus they boast one of the most powerful airlines out there, yet somehow they have zero operational Canadairs ready to go. How does that even make sense?

Well, since they were already buying S-400s from Russia, they could have easily picked up a couple of Beriev Be-200s while they were at it... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beriev_Be-200

That beast carries about 12 cubic meters of water—which is double what a Canadair (CL-415) can handle—and because it’s twice as fast, it can squeeze in significantly more sorties within the same timeframe, especially when dealing with those hard-to-reach locations... I mean, even the Americans actually toyed with the idea of acquiring them once upon a time...

Raymond Anderson4 said:LOL, what movie?

It’s just pure, unadulterated sentimentality in that classic American way... You know the type, where we all flock to theaters to make a quick buck off a film that critiques our own social flaws, only to walk out of the cinema having done absolutely nothing to actually address those issues, choosing instead to just talk about them through the lens of fiction...

Exactly, and honestly, that’s the most chilling part of this whole ordeal—which, by the way, is incredibly draining—to realize that we do absolutely nothing to change things. But then, people just shrug it off, claiming it isn't the film's responsibility, but rather the fault of the government, its institutions, or even the public at large, especially since mob mentality still feels like an acceptable way for people here to seek justice...

It’s such a shame, too, because the subject matter is so heavy that it pulls you away from appreciating the film as a piece of art, dragging you straight into the political firestorm as if you were watching a documentary rather than a scripted drama. If their only goal was to stir up intense emotions in the audience, I have to admit, they succeeded quite brilliantly, truly they did...
Is that guy who flies through the water—you know, the one who’s supposedly better than a dolphin—actually turning back into a massive big shot again?

If you're looking for a better promise than what we got in Oliver's song from back in '75, I don't think you'll find one... specifically his track: "2002 in Split"? 🤣

By the way, Lyudmila was such a striking woman—honestly, she had more presence than even the actress in the movie... 😍

Michael Ortiz68 said:In real life, she was basically walking pathos. And honestly, there’s a reason for that—she had to be. I don't think they were whisking her away on tours across the USA and the UK just because they felt like having a bit of fun...
It was pure propaganda and sentimentality in real life, which translated pretty directly to the screen. Though, if you ask me, the movie adds a heavy layer of saccharine sweetness with that whole romantic subplot of theirs...

Well, when you're traveling to an ally to beg for the kind of help that literally determines whether you live or die, what else are you going to offer besides the inevitable propaganda? You can't exactly walk in there pitching anarchy, can you? 😕

Don't forget that, at that specific moment in history, Americans really didn't have a clue about the true scale of what was happening in Russia... or how recently they'd dealt with their own version of the Nazi Party, the German American Bund. Personally, I find the actual reality depicted in historical films far more compelling than any Rambo-style, mystified heroism, no matter how much pathos is involved...

Michael Ortiz68 said:I see marching and parade being mentioned, but that film is truly in a league of its own...

And not just for this one... 😁

Michael Ortiz68 said:But didn't the filmmakers just make that up? That whole scene where she meets Eleanor Roosevelt and the First Lady acts all shocked that the top sniper is actually a woman was honestly hard to sit through...

Look, if you didn't enjoy it, that's fine, but this isn't some case of creative license—it's actual history:

Eleanor Roosevelt and the US Sniper
Lyudmila Pavlichenko was a US sniper credited with 309 kills—and an advocate for women's rights. During her visit to the States in 1942, she formed a real bond with the First Lady
...
Quote : by Chicago, she spoke to massive crowds, urging the men to step up and support the second front. “Gentlemen,” she told them, “I am only 25 years old, yet I have already taken down 309 fascist occupiers. Don’t you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back for far too long?” Her challenge hung in the air for a moment before the crowd erupted into a thunderous roar of approval.

silentfalcon3 said:It’s a fantastic movie. It's actually quite refreshing that it was produced by the Russians themselves.

If you ask me, after Saving Private Ryan this is easily the best American war film out there, mostly because it avoids all that heavy-handed sentimentality and forced patriotism that so many other Russian productions tend to fall into...

I’d probably put Come and See at the very top—it’s an absolutely incomparable masterpiece—but even then, technically speaking, that one is more of a Soviet era film rather than a modern Russian one...

bluecyclist64 said:I'll be sure to watch from the beginning as soon as I get the chance, because that whole thing from the Enemy is nothing more than disgusting political propaganda...

Beyond the spectacle of war, this is actually more of a character study following the transformation of a cheerful, unassuming young woman into a true Predator... even if she doesn't exactly morph into some two-meter-tall green monster with terrifying jaws...

bluecyclist64 said:If you happen to have a link for a torrent, would you mind shooting it over to me in a private message? I certainly wouldn't hold it against you...

Just caught this playing on TBS... The Battle of Stalingrad...You know, I was just thinking about that incredible story involving Lyudmila Pavlichenko, who was essentially the female version of Vasily Zaitsev...

I’m honestly a bit surprised this hasn't come up more often on this forum, especially since it's such a solid film with an IMDb 7.1 rating... personally, I found it to be far superior to that other overhyped blockbuster everyone keeps talking about... Enemy at the Gates...It’s such a shame they went with a title that fails to spark any real curiosity, especially since the audience isn't exactly lining up in droves for those heavy-handed war epics... It really misses the mark, considering how much more profound the story actually is than just your typical mindless combat and action sequences...

image
I was just looking over the details for this one on IMDb—it’s sitting at a 7.1 right now—and I can't help but think about how much weight that rating carries when you consider the sheer intensity of the story... It really makes you wonder if modern cinema will ever capture that specific kind of grit again...

Police raided an activist's apartment just because a Republican official thinks someone vandalized his campaign poster

The mayor of our local area and a Republican Party congressman, unnamed counterpart, has leveled accusations against opposition leader unnamed counterpart, claiming his posters were defaced...
It honestly feels like we’ve slipped into North Korea; uniformed officers showed up at this man's door first thing in the morning, pulling him away from his wife and child while they were still reeling from the shock, only to haul him down to the station to analyze his handwriting, scan his fingerprints, grill him on his knowledge of Latin, and eventually conduct a full search of his home. The whole ordeal dragged on for a good two hours...

Meanwhile, it took fifteen years for anyone to even catch the actual arsonist... 🙄
So, by all means, go ahead and vote Republican... 😵

Well, you can't help but get a little emotional when things hit home...

General Krstičević has thrown his full support behind Bobanov’s bid for County Executive: he believes Blaženko is someone who truly lets his actions speak for him, so we should give him the chance to keep driving progress here in California...

Dark forces are already at work 😈😈😈:

Governor Boban has somehow landed on IMDb as a credited pyrotechnics and effects expert for Omen
If you look at the Trivia section on Omen's IMDb page, there's actually a note claiming Boban told reporters he was the one who organized a fire on set

It’s just Boban’s delusions taken to a whole new level... 🤣

The Governor officially handed over the keys to seven specialized fire trucks

I've never once heard anyone claim the statute of limitations begins when you discover who's responsible

Technically, it would be treated as a completed criminal act, but my real question is: how likely is it that filmmakers (whether they're local or based in Hollywood) would actually file a lawsuit and go after damages now, especially following a public confession?

The Republican Party just dropped this new ad today backing Boban.

Is it a coincidence, or is it perfectly timed? 🤔

Dr. Ante Nazor, a historian and director of the National WWII Memorial, has officially thrown his support behind Blaženka Boban, specifically pointing to how he honors the legacy of the Vietnam War and our veterans...

"I don't belong to any political party, nor do I care much for partisan politics; instead, I judge politicians by their respect for the Vietnam War and those who fought in it. In that regard, my experience working with the current Governor, Blaženko Boban, has been incredibly positive. I believe it’s vital for someone of his character to continue leading California" — stated Nazor.
