They played at InMusic this past summer and they were absolutely stellar. I actually caught them back in the day at MoMA—years ago, now that I think about it—and even then, they were just incredible. 👍
Broken social scene ***1/2 - pretty decent for a sunny evening out Caribou ***** - absolutely stellar—from the first note to the last The Flaming Lips ***** - those half-stars were probably docked because of all the talking, but honestly, they made up for it with the sheer scale of the show, even if I missed the part I was actually most excited for Massive Attack **** - I didn't have anyone with me in New Orleans, and there were definitely some dip moments, but overall, I'm feeling pretty good about it
The sound quality during the LCD Soundsystem set was actually excellent—I kind of appreciated that it wasn't overwhelmingly loud, which is rare these days—but man, that !!! set was a different beast entirely. I initially figured the sound was off because I was tucked away on the far left side of the venue, but even after shuffling toward the center, nothing really changed. It just was what it was, I guess.
It’s just because that same tired "joke" keeps popping up—usually with a much more serious undertone—on pretty much every other thread on this subforum.
Honestly, I feel like the next person who tries to drag folk or some low-brow, trashy pop music—you know, the kind of stuff you’d hear if you weren't listening to xy, you're almost certainly blasting Ceca or whatever—into the lineup for a festival like this should probably be slapped five times straight. I mean, seriously, what on earth are you thinking?
And honestly, I don't think it’s all that bad. Look, a friend of mine is living on minimum wage—roughly $700 a year. Is he really expected to drop more than 10% of his paycheck just to catch a band he absolutely loves? Between that and trying to cover rent and utilities, the math just doesn't work. I guess we can start picking fights with people who are just students living in a big city away from home or folks struggling with tight budgets—if that's where we're headed. I truly wish him the best, I really do. But before jumping to such desperate measures, maybe he should try his luck with those giveaway contests—who knows, something might actually pan out before things get this bleak.
The sound against the wall was actually quite decent. It might not have been the absolute pinnacle of audio engineering—or even the best I've heard in a venue of that size—but it was perfectly fine. The Concert? Really good. I have to admit, I'm a little taken aback by all the enthusiasm, though I suppose there’s no harm in letting people enjoy themselves at a show.
Yeah. If he actually said, "I hope Hopa Neil is doing alright," I think I might just drop dead right then and there. Honestly. But there are just way too many of them. 😢
