How to fix Kyphosis and improve posture? in Health ·
To kick things off (and it’s a fantastic starting point!!), if you can manage it at your desk or wherever you spend your workday, try sitting on a stability ball instead of a chair.
I work in an office setting myself—I'm a secretary—and I've been using a Pilates ball for five years now, following the advice of my physical therapist and physiatrist... people actually chuckled at me a little when I first started, but now two of my coworkers have joined in too! 😉
Of course, you still need to do your dedicated workouts at home, but this is such a brilliant way to "exercise" your back and improve your posture while you're just sitting there.
Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Patrick Brown3 said:The idea that pills trigger hunger is purely subjective.
It’s mostly a matter of self-control.
I personally have a massive appetite, yet I maintain discipline.

I discussed this with my OB-GYN a couple of weeks ago. He noted that women frequently complain about weight gain.
Most of it is water retention—maybe two pounds. Anything beyond that is just overeating, followed by blaming the medication.

"I'm eating" just as much as I was two years ago—if anything, probably less, though let's be honest—but the difference is that for the last two years, I've been riding my bike and walking regularly. Basically, I'm training.
My metabolism has always been slow (and excuse my language, but I feel sluggish every five days), which is why I have to drink massive amounts of water just to keep up.
These hormones don't make me hungry; if anything, they slow my metabolism even further, leading to weight gain... so even that initial water retention really messes with me, not to mention how much more backed up I get 🙂.
Bottom line: for me, these hormones (specifically from my birth control, but hey, they're hormones regardless) are a problem... it varies from person to person, but that's my experience.
Richard Cox3 said:How much time usually passes after you start taking birth control pills before you might notice some weight gain? For those of you who’ve been through this, when did you actually start seeing the scale creep up once you began your prescription?

I started noticing it after about a year, but by then I was already up 13 pounds... it felt like no matter what I ate, my body just soaked it all up.
Now I have a hormonal IUD, and I've gained about 22 pounds over two years... is it possible it's the hormones acting up again? I mean, how similar are the hormones in the pill compared to an IUD?

It’s not about pills, but I could really use some help here if anyone has experience to weigh in on this:
Do hormonal birth control pills and a hormonal IUD (like Mirena) actually work the same way?
Specifically, is it actually possible to gain weight from an IUD? Like, could those hormones it releases just make me hungrier and cause me to eat more?
I know for a fact that happened to me when I was on the pill, which is exactly why I stopped taking them about 15 years ago.
I've noticed that some of you tend to go with meat and salad for lunch, or maybe potatoes and salad... do you personally feel that the meat should be kept separate from the potatoes on your plate?
As for me, I usually just pick up my healthy grains, cookies, and all that sort of stuff at CVS.

I haven't read through everything yet, so I'm not sure if anyone has brought up St. John's Wort oil.

Basically, I was looking for St. John's Wort oil to help with some other issues, but what I actually received was Hypericum oil (Hyperici oleum).
Is that the exact same thing?
Could someone please provide the Latin names for me?

It's the same thing.
Laura Ramirez10, give me some dinner inspiration!
If I eat lunch at 3:30 PM, when should my dinner be?
Please, take a look at the thread "What to give up to lose 3 kg quickly," which I started about 8 days ago. As of today, I am 1kg lighter, and honestly, I haven't even had to make any major sacrifices; I actually treated myself to two squares of dark chocolate yesterday when, after 7 days of staying on track, I felt that intense craving hitting me. And now, I feel steady again for at least another week...

I notice that other women on the forum frequently include photos of their skincare products or various treatments in their posts, yet for some reason, I can't see most of them. Why is this happening? What steps do I need to take to ensure these images actually load for me?
How to treat a sprained ankle? in Health ·
Jeffrey Reyes4 said:Heat up a lighter, poke holes through both sides, squeeze it out, and hit it with some rubbing alcohol.
If you actually have to go somewhere after, stuff some dry gauze in there; otherwise, just let it air dry.

Ugh, I’ve heard from so many different people that you definitely shouldn't be poking at it. Apparently, that little tube just clears itself out on its own, and then it dries up anyway.
😕

I keep getting this painful, fluid-filled blister right on the bone above my heel. Does anyone know a good ointment or cream to help get rid of it?
To be honest, I don't think it's just bad footwear. I suspect there might be some minor structural deformity in that part of my foot, which causes my shoes to rub in a way that isn't immediately obvious. It's weird because the blister only shows up after about a half-hour of walking; I never have any issues on shorter walks.
Stretch Marks: Dealing with Cracked Skin in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I ended up with stretch marks both during my growth spurts and after my pregnancy. I guess my skin just isn't built for stretching!
I was applying creams like there was no tomorrow while I was pregnant, but honestly, nothing worked. So, you can take all those claims that you need to buy half the inventory at CVS to see results—they're totally wrong!
My mother-in-law had two kids and doesn't have a single stretch mark on her entire body! Now *that* is what I call great skin.
At the end of the day, you just have to accept them; there are definitely much bigger things to worry about than a few marks on your skin.

So, I’ve been taking these 300 mg Clindamycin capsules, and yesterday while I was riding the Amtrak, it hit me that I totally missed a dose.
In a moment of pure stupidity, I thought, "Whatever, I'll just swallow it dry." But man, you have no idea what happened next.

The damn capsule got stuck and started dissolving right there in my throat. I ended up throwing it back up on the train maybe two minutes after swallowing, though honestly, it probably never even made it down to my stomach. I had zero clue that this stuff could be so aggressive. My entire throat feels absolutely shredded—it hurts like I'm dealing with some massive, nasty infection. It's especially brutal on the left side. Yesterday, I was basically just shoveling food down my throat trying to force anything through so it wouldn't feel like something was sitting there, but even this morning, the pain is just killing me.

Is there anything that actually works for this? Should I bother grabbing some throat lozenges, or is that a waste of money? What should I take?

THE PAIN AND BURNING ARE UNBEARABLE! I can't eat or swallow normally. Every single time I try to swallow, it makes this clicking sound, like I'm trying to gulp down a giant dumpling.

Help me out here!

Go see a doctor. This actually happened to me once with a standard antibiotic that wasn't even half as harsh as yours. It is seriously no fun, I know!

Swelling in the groin area?! in Health ·
It’s honestly wild how some people immediately rush to call a doctor for every little thing! There is absolutely no need to panic right out of the gate.
To me, these kinds of issues usually just pop up when I'm not "fully prepared"—you know, when things aren't quite lubricated enough.
Motion sickness while driving in Health ·
Stick to dry snacks before you head out and while you're on the move if you're feeling hungry—think crackers, jerky, or just some plain bread. Whatever you do, stay far away from dairy, spreads, or milk! The lactic acid in those things will just make the nausea way worse.
I've been dealing with this struggle for 30 years now. For me, Dramamine is a lifesaver!
