Well, I don't really ignore that part! For me, it's actually a bit of a plus. I guess I'm just not the type to overlook things like that; I take pride in being a true American. 😬
Carol Jackson45 said:Next time, just admit right away that you're a total trash-talker.🙂

Well, I guess I am, but I think you might have missed my main point here.🙂
Well, I guess that’s exactly what I was getting at.
Carol Jackson45 said:The Audioslave art geek snob... 😁

Why on earth? I mean, look—some guy trashed the latest LansingDreideiden record so passionately that I actually felt compelled to go out and buy it. And honestly? It’s actually a really solid album!

Not to mention Brent's whole "Britpop" dismissal regarding that first !!! album... which happens to be one of my absolute favorites in my entire collection.
Jason Sullivan91 said:.. honestly, Tyler Grant86, it isn't even about how interesting they are—it’s more about the hype and the crowd surrounding them... it's a textbook Warholian phenomenon.

And then there are the people who just can't stand them for organic reasons. I suppose there's something there that irritates people to no end, right? It seems like the absolute worst thing you can tell someone is that their work is mediocre...

That's probably why I always try to hunt down records that score lower than a 3 on Pitchfork, unless we're talking about something that is undeniably garbage, like Andrew WK or Audioslave. 🙂

I’ll try to keep that in mind for the next time I find myself at some random wedding where I have absolutely nothing to do with the guest list, yet someone starts slapping me on the shoulder like, "Come on, kid, get up and join the conga line!" Honestly, I'd probably just panic and bolt. I guess perspective really is everything.

Just remember that feeling next time someone taps you on the shoulder and tries to drag you onto the dance floor to some ridiculous oldie. 🙂
Kevin Chavez3 said:There really isn't anything quite as bad as terrible rock music. 🙂

Yeah, I suppose dancehall is 😁 even
worse.
rustyangler68 said:I suppose the reason he isn't completely cutting out certain things—even if they aren't exactly top-tier right now—is probably because he wants to give more credit to rising American artists who aren't just playing cheesy pop or bubblegum hits, and I actually think that's a great move!

Honestly, bad pop is just as bad as bad rock. If anyone disagrees with that, I think they might have some serious issues to work through.
Gosh, I feel like the Penguins only have one decent track—"My Girl." Everything else just feels a bit silly to me now. I mean, maybe "Maybe, Maybe" was a dance floor staple back in the day, but looking back from where I am now, it honestly seems kind of ridiculous...
As for terms like camp, trash, or pulp, I think it’s all just part of the rock and roll spirit. To me, trash is basically 👍
redcrane28 said:I’ll admit I’m being a bit slow here, but I can't quite figure out which one you mean? Lollobrigide? lol

Yeah, those were the ones I had in mind.
As someone who’s pretty much a huge fan of L., I feel like I should weigh in on the comparison between Lollobrigida and D'Boys. To me, the real distinction is that Lollobrigida leans into that intentional trashy aesthetic, whereas D'Boys just seems... accidental? Of course, that’s all just semantics and doesn't really change the bottom line—which is whether a pop song actually works or not. And honestly, I don't think D'Boys ever quite mastered the art of songwriting. They just didn't have that knack, unlike bands like Videosex, Denis & Denis, or even the most hated band on the forum. But hey, I guess there's no accounting for taste! 🙂
Jason Sullivan91 said:I mean, the guy released three whole albums and I don't see Biffel bragging about his success, nor does anyone seem to be pointing it out to him...

"And nobody cares," he says, just being completely blunt.

Jason Sullivan91 said:Man, I don't get it—why is nobody mentioning the absolute best local albums? Surely some gems have surfaced over the years...

Like a total idiot, I’m going to toss one more name onto this list.
mister no.

Wait, did someone actually release that?
If they did, I honestly can't wrap my head around why they would choose to do that. 😈

Personally, I think the first one was better. This one isn't really danceable. And for us sailors, danceable usually means better! 🙂

Arthur Barnes said:Honestly, it’s just like Bohemian Rhapsody. It starts with crying and ends with crying. It's just constant weeping. And the whole song feels like one big cry session. It’s so incredibly striking that I can’t really remember anything else besides that initial sob at the start and the final sob at the end.

Am I going to get banned for this? 🙄

What's wrong with crying? 😁
