Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I’ve got a question for the group... how does Optimum Nutrition stack up as a brand? And has anyone actually tried their Pro 90? I noticed it’s packed with way more vitamins and minerals than the Dymatize stuff I'm currently using, so I’ve been thinking about making the switch. Also—how's the flavor profile for this brand? Is it actually drinkable? 😉

I mean, it’s probably because they’re overpriced! 😁
I remember buying this vanilla protein from Dietary Supplements Corp once—honestly, at first, the flavor wasn't even bad. But after maybe three or four shakes, I got so sick of it that now, just catching a whiff of that powder makes me want to gag!
And the kicker? According to the nutrition facts, it’s basically identical to those high-end, expensive proteins! 🙂

Paul Miller64 said:I totally forgot about Multipower, too.

It’s basically just sugar masquerading as nutrition since protein is only 20%—that's why it tastes so damn good.

I wouldn't go that far, though—the label says 86%!
It isn't pure whey, but I think it's perfectly fine!
If you mix it with water, you're looking at 28 grams of protein per serving; if you use milk, you'd get more, but then you have to deal with all that... ugh... dairy stuff.
By the way, where is this "sugar" coming from if the label says there's only 1%?😕

So what am I supposed to buy instead, Dymatize? Look, flavor is actually huge for me—I can't stand anything that tastes nauseating or has that weird, chalky texture when you mix it with water. Honestly, some of those brands make me feel sick for half the day!
At least with this stuff, even if it has sweeteners, I don't end up having to lie in bed for an hour waiting for my stomach to stop acting up.☕

Nah, Dymatize has been my go-to since day one—honestly the best I've used.

Sure, but what's the actual argument here?
Like, why? 😕
It’s perfectly fine! 🙂
If you ask me, MuscleTech is the biggest pile of garbage on the market! 🤣

Can someone please break down the actual difference between standard whey and stuff like those "super shakes" or high-protein meal replacements?
I’m heading out to grab a new bag tomorrow and I honestly have no clue what the deal is!
As far as I know, whey is just pure protein—that's about all I've got going for me here—but do these other shakes have vitamins packed into them, or are they loaded with fats and all that other junk?
I’ve got a question for you guys! Did USPS hike their rates through the roof without actually announcing it to anyone, or what is going on?
I’m paying $10 just for a basic little envelope weighing maybe 200-300 grams! That was when I was shipping some sneakers $17! Everyone I talk to is complaining that shipping costs are hitting $10-$5.00! Like, seriously, how does that even work?

Today, I’m sending out a package with COD (cash on delivery), and since they’ve burned me a couple of times already—telling me it would arrive by 10 AM the very next day (which is the most expensive tier)—I made sure to tell them I want the recipient to pay as little as possible. I suggested around $15-$6.75 so she doesn't get overcharged, but the woman just tells me that because it’s a COD shipment, it’s already added $6.75! 😕

What are you all averaging for shipping costs lately?

And honestly, if I were you, I’d just do what I do—give them a massive wide berth and stay far away.
It’s not just about skipping Weider; it’s about avoiding companies like ExxonMobil entirely.

-Joe

So I just checked out their website! Honestly, I've never even heard of them before today! 🙂
I don't get why people say to avoid Weider? I've been drinking it for almost two months now, so I really don't want to feel like I'm throwing my money down the drain!
Is Dymatize actually any good, though?

Weider protein 88
is hands down the best tasting one I've ever had! 😉
though Dymatize isn't half bad either

btw does anyone know who the distributor for Weider products is? I can't find them anywhere anymore—the only place I see them is at my local gym, and those guys charge way more than a grocery store! =(

Alright, I figured I’d drop a few progress shots here! I tried my best to capture the back and arms since those are the two areas where I’ve actually seen some decent movement so far—but honestly, trying to take these solo is a total pain, so I definitely didn't catch everything perfectly! 😢

1. Back

And here’s another shot of the back where you can see a bit more arm definition. It might not look massive or anything, but compared to where I started? I’m pretty damn happy with it. 🙂

Now, this one is a shot of the abs. You can't see a ton in this specific photo, but trust me, the core is starting to show up—and you can definitely feel them working! I don't know if it's because of that whole body fat percentage obsession everyone has, but they just aren't popping out as much as I'd like yet. 🤷

And here is just a standard side profile shot.

Personally, I like seeing people's faces in these updates, even though I know there was a lot of complaining before about including faces in the progress photos. So, here is a recent one—since that's the area where I've seen the most change, feel free to open it if you want, and if not, no big deal! 😉

- My goals right now are to lean out the arms, back, and abs, and maybe pack on another 5 pounds of muscle. We'll just have to see how that plays out!
Later! 🙂
Martial Arts for Women in Washington, D.C. in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Look, I’ll give you my two cents—if you’re just looking for some casual cardio and want to stay fit, stick with the local gym! But if you actually want to get serious about competitive boxing and prefer a more individualized training style, then come join us at the club!
It’s an MMA gym, which means you’ll learn the technical side of four or five different martial arts, though you can totally pick one—like Muay Thai—as your main focus and just dabble in the others on the side.
The vibe at the regular gym is always with music blasting in the background 😁

Honestly, ever since I started sparring with the guys, I've noticed something—there are basically zero women who want to do anything more than just burn some calories in class. They hit way too soft and they can't take a hit to save their lives, period.
So, my advice? Either bring a friend along so you can train together, or tell the coach to pair you up with someone who isn't a total beginner right away. Make it clear from day one that you want a gritty, high-intensity workout—not just some slow, light tapping around where nobody actually pushes themselves! 😉
It never even crossed my mind that if I didn't speak up, she’d end up getting hit with the most expensive service plan available!
Honestly, I don't ship these kinds of packages very often—I have to admit, I'm not exactly an expert on every single shipping option out there—but this whole situation was just plain dirty. ☕

It wasn't anything personal against my girl, but man, I really felt for that guy! 🤷
Honestly, my recent experiences dealing with the post office are enough to send me into a total depression! 😂
I had to ship those last two packages using that annoying cash-on-delivery method because they were computer components—people just don't trust sending money via direct transfer anymore!
So, here’s the thing: I filled out every single form perfectly, checked all the right boxes, and yet this woman didn't bother asking a single question about when the delivery should actually happen!
Then my boyfriend calls me up—he was the one buying the stuff—and he’s complaining about how insane the shipping costs turned out to be $27! Since the item weighs less than a pound, it should have gone through standard HP Express! I looked everything up online and $13 it definitely shouldn't have cost that much! But apparently, that old lady behind the counter decided to slap the most expensive rate on it just because she wanted to guarantee next-day delivery before 10 AM! God knows what kind of ridiculous fee she tacked on, and I didn't even ask for that service! 😕

How am I supposed to know what she's pulling over there? What kind of operation is that post office running anyway? 👎
If City Express wasn't so outrageously expensive, I would've just sent everything through them instead! ☕
😁
Man, this woman is such a total nightmare—seriously, what is going on with these government agencies lately? It feels like they’re just handing out jobs to anyone with a pulse! 😁
The weirdest part is that she’s actually perfectly pleasant when I show up looking all professional and dressed to impress. But the second I’m just running errands—like, if I’m heading down to the local USPS in my Nike high-tops and just keeping it casual—she turns into a complete jerk!
Now I’m probably going to end up getting into an argument every single time I need to drop something off at the post office. 😂
As of today, I am officially DONE with those "recommended" shipments that require COD!
I spent my entire afternoon getting bullied by some clerk behind a counter who made me fill out fifty-one different little slips of paper—literally felt like I was doing taxes instead of shipping a package. And then, when I finally exhaled and asked if that was everything, she had the nerve to snap at me, "No, ma'am, you haven't paid your thirty cents for all the paperwork you've filled out so far!" Honestly, I was half a second away from pulling out a $67 and just handing her the whole damn thing so she could change it down to the last penny. What absolute vultures. I wasted twenty minutes on one tiny little parcel!
Thanks for nothing—bye—never again! Checking my checking account 🙏
Pyruvate vs. L-carnitine: Which one should I take? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
gentletiger46 said:I suggest you take that money and buy a decent textbook on biochemistry or physiology instead—at least then you might actually learn what L-carnitine and pyruvate are and how they function. Pyruvate is just the end metabolic product of sugar breakdown during glycolysis, which then feeds straight into the Krebs cycle. If you subtract the 2 ATPs lost because you've bypassed glycolysis, you're left with the exact same amount of energy as if you'd just drunk a glass of sugar water. But hey, if you want to throw your money away on that, be my guest.

L-carnitine is just the transporter that moves fat into the mitochondria. Thinking you'll burn fat faster just because you have more transporters is like thinking you'll use more electricity at home just because you have more electrical outlets installed. Fat gets burned when your body actually needs it, and your own natural supply of L-carnitine is already more than enough to handle the transport.

I honestly had no idea what pyruvate even was👍. thanks for at least explaining it to me

Linda Castillo94 said:and I already gave you my answer to that... maybe try actually reading for once ☕

Fine, I read it!
From what I can see, you wrote that people around here don't have much experience using L-carnitine. I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly do. To be honest, I used to think I was sweating more just because I was taking it—but I'm starting to think that whole placebo effect isn't just some myth everyone talks about. These days, I'm sweating like crazy during every single workout even without any L-carnitine supplements!

The way I see it, everyone thinks if you just dissolve an ampoule of carnitine, you'll turn into a puddle in the sun. Yeah, right... they sold everyone on that gimmick, and now every girl trying to drop her body fat percentage is basically injecting herself with it!
That's why you see all those "shape and shake" products out there—shakes with added L-carnitine and shakes without it... blah, blah, blah. In reality, most of it is just marketing fluff for people who want a quick fix. As far as I can tell, that entire powder drink is basically just a glorified Gatorade! ☕ Only it's ten times more expensive!

And at the end of the day, your body produces its own L-carnitine anyway! So, you don't even really need it! 🤷

But like I said before! If taking carnitine makes you happy and you feel better doing it, then go ahead and keep taking it! 😉
Pyruvate vs. L-carnitine: Which one should I take? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Look, this specific drink has 1000mg of L-carnitine per serving!
Meanwhile, those cheap drugstore tablets only give you about 300mg ☕

I mean, if L-carnitine actually works for you—why on earth wouldn't you just stick with what’s working? 🤷

And one more thing—could you actually explain, like, specifically what kind of difference you're noticing when you take it versus when you don't?
Pyruvate vs. L-carnitine: Which one should I take? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I’ll personally hand you my L-carnitine since it clearly doesn't do a damn thing! 😂

If I had actually kept all the cash I wasted on MuscleTech for those useless little drinks... man, what a joke!
I’ve got a question for you all!
I need to send a registered letter internationally, but I really need to include some cash inside. Now, obviously, we all know that isn't exactly how things are supposed to be done. But honestly, the idea of using Western Union just to pay a $100-$40 fee doesn't even cross my mind!
So, here’s what I was thinking—I could put the money inside a greeting card, tuck that card into an envelope, maybe throw in a little extra something, and just say it's a gift for someone at XYZ. Do you think they actually bother checking the contents of the card, or once the envelope is sealed, is it smooth sailing? 🙂

So, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered some Dymatize Super Shake!
I’ve never actually messed with this brand before—honestly, I just got completely fed up with all that Multipower garbage—so I wanted to see if anyone here has actually tried them yet. Specifically, has anyone given this particular shake a go?
