Is preseason momentum actually a thing?

I was thinking about how much hype builds up every single year once the summer heat kicks in. It’s that weird stretch where everyone is acting like the season is already decided based on a few practice drills and some roster shuffling. I remember back in my college days, we’d spend the whole summer convinced we were going to be unstoppable just because one guy looked fast in a scrimmage, only to get humbled in the first real game of the season.
It feels like the preseason is more about managing fatigue and testing depth than actually proving anything about a team's ceiling. I find myself getting skeptical of all the "breakout" predictions that start flying around this time of year. It’s hard to judge true chemistry when the real intensity isn't there yet.
Do you guys actually get invested in how the training camp looks, or do you just wait until the regular season starts to take anything seriously?
