It feels like in Earth, everything has to be laid out right in front of you... it’s such an American way of storytelling... making sure they get the point immediately.
I honestly have this suspicion that he directed it this way just to block anyone hoping for a revival of Ellen Ripley... haha... but he didn't quite pull it off. Instead, we're left with the mess that was Alien: Resurrection... though I will admit, there are certain scenes that truly left me stunned.
Stardust in Movies ·
I watched😁

Personally, I find films involving pirates and brotherhood to be incredibly compelling...👍 👍 👍
...furthermore, I have rarely encountered such engaging choreography (during the film's climax)...those who have seen it will understand my specific reference...😁
Ugh... I would offer more commentary, but I refuse to spoil the experience for anyone else...

Have you ever noticed how every single one of his films possesses its own distinct color palette?
Alien 3 is drenched in orange, constantly feeling damp with water and slime dripping everywhere.
Fight Club carries this sickly greenish-gray tone, punctuated by occasional flashes of deep red.
Se7en is almost entirely gray, save for that final, jarringly bright yellow scene.
Panic Room feels teal and green, always covered in a thin layer of dust.
The Game follows a similar pattern of grays and blacks, with sporadic bursts of blue.
..

That is a keen observation... 👍
He is also my favorite director... for the longest time, I actually thought he was British...
..The Game is top-tier as well, but I can't stand David, so I never revisit it..
As for Se7en—in my opinion, no one will ever be able to make a better film on that subject matter... honestly, it even beats "No Country for Old Men" for me, which usually sits at the top of my list..
In Alien, that scene where they dissect the girl (the shot of the saw, then the blood, then wiping it on the cloth) I truly didn't think they would ever allow something like that in an American movie.... Naturally, I prefer the director's cut... it avoids that nonsensical ending where the queen emerges from Ripley...
The Devil Wears Prada in Movies ·
I am conflicted. While I found the film to be quite good, it was deeply unsettling to realize that there are people out there living such lives...
Streep remains a master of her craft, as she always is. Honestly, I felt a sense of nausea once the credits rolled.

Quote: Bill or that kind of nonsense. It feels like a traditional action flick, you know? No flying around or any of that ridiculous stuff.
Skac01 says:
They’ll probably be chasing each other around in wheelchairs, but regardless, I think the movie works. It’s actually quite solid—much better than something like
kill
👍 Exactly—no flying involved. 👍
The Bourne Ultimatum in Movies ·
I find the current situation quite devastating. It feels as though Bourne has transitioned into being a true Superman. It is truly a shame.
Being John Malkovich in Movies ·
To me, "Being John Malkovich" was nothing short of revolutionary; I had simply never encountered anything quite like it before. I actually watched the adaptation later on, and I remember being genuinely taken aback by the fact that the lead romantic actor—to my absolute astonishment—was missing a front tooth. You just don't see that kind of raw realism in modern American cinema anymore. While the entire narrative is phenomenal, I found myself struggling with the ending. It didn't quite resonate with me, though I suppose that is ultimately a matter of personal taste.
Being John Malkovich in Movies ·
To film is one of those rare, surreal experiences that somehow manages to make perfect sense despite its strangeness... I had high hopes that this adaptation would capture that same level of fascination
Just speaking off the top of my head here...
Goonies... initially I thought about the legalities... then I thought about those shallow American kids who care about nothing but treasure... and then, well, just children...
Gladiator... what an absolute masterpiece of cinema... such profound sentimentality...
The Warriors... I used to think it was a solid film... but I rewatched it a few months ago and the only thing that crossed my mind was how everyone looks like they're wearing ridiculous, neon spandex...
Donnie Darko... what tedious nonsense... and yet, what a beautiful, nostalgic piece of filmmaking...
Iconic movie fight scenes in Movies ·
The aerial combat sequences in today's films feel utterly hollow to me. A woman takes a punch straight to the skull, flies three feet into the air, and then just stands right back up—no blood, no bruises, hair still perfectly styled... it’s like something out of a fever dream. It's a total disaster. You just can't find those gritty, visceral brawls like you used to see in classic Clint Eastwood westerns...
Even my experience with Fight Club - Norton felt superior by comparison; there wasn't some endless five-minute karate ritual.
If a fight doesn't leave someone's face looking absolutely wrecked, what's even the point?
What really gets to me about those mass-produced "hybrid" tomatoes is the flavor profile. A real tomato—the kind I grow in my own garden—has this incredible sweetness, almost like an apple, and no two look exactly alike. But these premature ones you see at the local farmer's market? They’re all predictably sour. In my opinion, they’re nothing more than plastic imitations.
Fahrenheit 451 in Movies ·
I have always found this film deeply unsettling... the imagery of burning books, the reliance on comic strips instead of newspapers, and that chilling concept of people memorizing literature as if it were their own personal choice...
I can't recall exactly when the novel was published, but I distinctly remember a passage where the protagonist "predicted" those massive, glowing neon billboards lining the highways just to keep us entertained during our drives...
Commando in Movies ·
Honestly, Schwarzenegger is the gold standard. We need more quality action movies like his. Nowadays, everyone playing the lead looks like a runway model—these "highly educated experts" who supposedly master heavy weaponry and high-octane explosions in their early twenties, only to go flying through the air. And the moment they take a punch to the face, that perfectly manicured modern hairstyle stays stuck in place as if it were coated in three layers of extra-strength hairspray.

😁

But let's be realistic... American housekeepers aren't exactly models... they're usually just older ladies looking for some extra work...😬

Still, I see your point... if one doesn't resist those "darker impulses," they'll spend every night indulging in affairs with "various types of domestic help"... 😉 ...though after a month of that, they won't be quite as energetic... unlike the housekeepers, who will surely multiply...😬

I tried meditation for a bit, but instead of things settling down, it actually made everything feel way louder. Big mistake on my part—I didn't even mention it to my instructor. I did find some visualization exercises online, you know, the kind meant to shield you from everyone else's "vibes," and that helped a little... but I'm still nowhere near being able to snap my fingers and conjure up a literal ring of fire during a conversation or whatever. I just can't hit that level of focus yet.
It’s a relief to hear there are people out there who have actually dealt with this stuff—means I just need to hang in there and keep practicing, I guess.🙂
I don't know if there's a connection here, but my grandma on my mom's side spent her whole life making herbal remedies, those little charms and stuff, and reading Tarot cards... she actually made a decent living doing it, too😢. Whether she was actually tapping into something real or she was just an incredible actress, who knows? She passed away when I was just a kid.

Well, of course you're feeling it... and when people talk about the spiritual path as if it's all sunshine, rainbows, and effortless bliss... you've only just scratched the surface. Just wait until everything you've suppressed for decades starts surfacing, or when you finally encounter the "friendly" crowd from the astral plane... it’ll be like hitting a wall at Wall Street😉... this "unwanted empathy" you're experiencing is merely the prologue😬

has anyone else experienced something that fundamentally shifted their perspective on the world?

One of my earliest memories surfaced when I was about twelve or thirteen years old—vivid recollections of a previous life.
It carried the heavy scent of a war nearing its conclusion... the sound of train cars... we were being transported somewhere... the looming shadow of death. I was just a child, yet I was Jewish... haunted by the visceral sensations of suffering and passing away.

😘 I was perhaps sixteen at the time; maybe our paths crossed, though sadly, I didn't make it through.

You are an intriguing individual from what I can gather at a distance... one might assume your aura is quite intense. On the bright side, at least they are engaging with you. They have a penchant for playing games, provided you allow them the space to do so.😁
What does tolerance mean to you? in Psychology ·
Regarding the driving situation... you have to be careful because some of these drivers, especially those pushing 40 mph and up in residential areas, can be incredibly aggressive. Honestly, keeping a baseball bat tucked under the seat feels like a necessary precaution sometimes. And whatever you do, don't roll down your window to argue with them if they step out of their vehicle. In 90% of cases, you’re just asking to get punched straight in the teeth.
