Hypersexuality: Let's talk about it in Psychology ·
Ryan Wood98 said:Ugh... if my memory serves me correctly (and I haven't taken my Ginkgo today... or ever, for that matter 😁 )
shouldn't nymphomania technically be classified as a disorder characterized by constant sexual arousal in women?

Because, if I recall correctly and that's the definition, it doesn't necessarily mean she has to be amoral or unfaithful; it just means she's perpetually on edge. How she chooses to manage that particular issue is another matter entirely.

Then again, if I've misremembered the details, I suppose I really have no idea. 😁

Well, I'm constantly wired, but I don't sleep around—I'm only with my husband. So, am I a nymphomaniac in theory? Because if I didn't have him, I might just screw anyone who moves. I can definitely picture it... ugh, damn... now I have to rethink everything. 😁

Look, I know just about every psychiatric disorder out there—The Merck is basically my Bible, except I'm not a hypochondriac, I just actually enjoy digging into medicine.

I understand where you're coming from; I went through the exact same thing. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't waste energy trying to force anything. Just surround yourself with people you actually want to be around. Everyone else is living their lives regardless of what you do, and they don't gain anything from your empathy—or your lack thereof. We aren't all cut from the same cloth; not everyone possesses a big heart, nor does everyone possess a small brain.

I hear you. The issue is my husband wants me to be social and surround myself with people.
Is it just me, or does anyone else hate people? in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey!
Back in my junior year of high school, I realized I just don't like people. Honestly—aside from my husband, there’s only one other person I actually care about, which is my best friend from high school. Those two are it. Everyone else? Not so much. I can tolerate the people physically close to me—family, my boss, coworkers, whatever—but if they vanished tomorrow, I wouldn't give them a second thought. When I have to socialize with them, I play along just to meet social norms and keep them happy—mostly so they don't get pissed off or stop being useful for my own existential needs. If someone needs help, I’ll step up, but let's be real: it's so I can call in a favor later. Socializing is exhausting, so I just pretend people are interesting.
I went to therapy for six straight months to deal with this "social issue." The sessions went fine, I guess, and the "solution" they gave me was to try connecting with people and finding the positive side of relationships. Of course, I tried. I even convinced myself I was changing for a bit. But after a while, I realized I was just acting again—I still feel absolutely nothing for people. I’ll donate to charities for sick people or animals because I feel a sense of duty, but that's it. When I watch those shows about kids in Africa or intense medical dramas, I don't feel anything—no pity, no compassion. I donate because I feel like I *have* to, not because I actually want to. Mostly, I just stick to solitude and staying on the sidelines. And I don't want kids, even though my mother-in-law and my mom are constantly breathing down my neck about it.
Honestly, I’d be perfectly happy living in a cave, but I lack the skills for a wild, survivalist lifestyle. That's the only reason I don't live like that. Instead, I have to work and be surrounded by people I simply cannot wrap my head around. Take dancing, for example—why do people love "grooving" around looking like unprofessional idiots? I get professional dance and the discipline of learning, but not that mindless swaying. I hate it when people pressure me to "get loose" in social settings; I don't want to, and then I just end up looking weird. Even though I'm like this, people in society actually like me because they think I'm kind, approachable, and someone who offers good advice and attention. Everything except the advice is an act designed to make others happy and maintain my image as a "positive person." The advice part is actually legit, though—I look at problems through a philosophical, logical lens, and I've helped quite a few people out with their issues. I always stay neutral. I'm not religious. I'm not politically aligned with anyone. I just love opera.

Are there any other robots among us?
Sleep paralysis experiences in Health ·
Those experiences sound absolutely brutal—honestly, it’s that feeling that kills you... and just draining yourself completely just to crash out isn't a real solution. Maybe try some lemon balm tea before bed? It actually helps calm things down... might be worth a shot for you guys too 🙂
Sleep paralysis experiences in Health ·
Hey everyone. I’m posting here because I need to talk to people who actually get what this feels like. My issue is sleep paralysis—or something extremely close to it. Why "close"? Because it doesn't fit the typical horror stories you read online. I don't deal with any ghosts, aliens, or shadowy figures lurking in the room like everyone else describes. It's just... nothingness.
It’s been happening since I was a kid. Every 3 or 4 months, it hits me for a week or two—sometimes twice or three times a night, sometimes every other day. I go to bed, start relaxing, and right as I'm drifting off—or even if I'm already asleep—my whole body just locks up. I can't move a finger, my arms, my legs... nothing. And the worst part? I can't breathe. It feels like I'm suffocating. It lasts maybe 10–15 seconds before it lets go... then my sensation comes back and I just panic. Sometimes I can't even process the panic because it's so intense, and my husband hears me making noises in my sleep, which stresses him out too. Every single time, my brain goes straight to: "Oh my god, is this it? Am I dying? Am I going to suffocate?"... It doesn't seem to be triggered by anything specific in my life—no stress spikes or big events—it just follows this weird pattern every few months.
I went to see my doctor and she sent me for heart and lung tests, but everything came back perfect. Lung capacity is great, breathing is fine, heart is fine. She basically admitted she has no clue what's happening and suggested I might want to try Xanax. But I'm not interested in taking Xanax—I don't need psychiatric meds for general life.

Has anyone else dealt with this? And does anyone know of a decent Sleep Disorders Center or something similar? Who should I even be talking to about this?

Thanks!

Dennis Fowler3 said:Okay, maybe I was totally in the wrong place before (I was posting in the thread about Provera, which I'm currently taking), so I figured it might be better to ask here. So, after going three months without my period (my cycle has been irregular for the last few years, mostly due to stress and being overweight), I went to see my OB-GYN. He found a clear cyst on my right ovary about 4 cm long and told me that if I take Provera for the next 10 days, I’ll definitely get my period. Well, today is already day 10, and there is absolutely no sign of my period. To make matters worse, the day before yesterday (day 8), I felt this massive pain right where that right ovary is—it felt like someone took a knife and just stabbed me. It was so intense that I actually ran a fever and started vomiting (plus, I had started sneezing the day before). Since then, the pain has vanished. Last night, I noticed some brownish discharge and a bit of mucus, but it’s nowhere near what my period usually looks like. Should I start worrying and head back to the doctor? Because, honestly, I'm heading into my fourth month without a period. 🤷

That stabbing pain everyone talks about? That’s usually what happens when things just snap. It might even be that discharge you're seeing—it's basically a sign that something's broken. Look, just call your doctor right now, get some actual advice, and tell them exactly what happened.

redpuma26 said:It really depends on what kind of cyst we're talking about. If you’re dealing with something like an endometriotic cyst, for instance—you can't just brush that off—you might actually need urgent surgery. It's definitely not something to take lightly... things can escalate pretty quickly, leading to things like vomiting or even passing out...

copperraven53 said:Did they mention they might suspect an endometriotic cyst? I had one that was like 10 cm—it actually ruptured and the fluid started leaking into my abdominal cavity. I puked six times in a really short window and the pain was just brutal. It happened while I was traveling, so I didn't get surgery until a few days later. At the ER, all they gave me on that first day was a single pain injection.

She didn't tell me if it was pure or what—just that she had it. I'm hoping it’s diluted or something.

Started bleeding on Monday—turns out my period was two and a half weeks late. At first, it was this weird reddish-brown, almost blackish color, then it turned light with some mucus mixed in. There was also this strange smell—kind of like pus. It hurt just like a normal period, and my stomach felt flatter and smaller, plus I wasn't peeing as often. It lasted four days, so I scheduled an ultrasound for day six of my cycle, just like the doctor told me to. During the bleeding, I felt this slight stinging sensation and a few sharp little jabs near my left ovary. Yesterday, I felt bloated again and had that familiar ache—like I’m about to start my period all over again.
I’m counting down the days until Wednesday—hoping they finally tell me it’s either gone or at least shrunk.

Even if I have an endometriotic cyst and it starts leaking, at least I know I can handle the pain—I’ve already dealt with the agony of an inflamed appendix that was so swollen it nearly burst. It ended in emergency surgery.
Kenneth Jones74 said:Hey,

Don't stress too much about whether it's going to pop or not. Just try to get an ultrasound with color Doppler done by a specialist at a hospital as soon as possible so they can see exactly what's going on with the CA 125 levels. In my case, they thought I just had a cyst for six months, but it turned out to be a tumor the size of a hand—so from my experience, a cyst that size almost certainly means surgery.

I recently went through the surgery myself...

Basically, if it does rupture, the pain is excruciating, and you'll definitely need to make an immediate trip to the Emergency Room.

And yeah, I don't think that happens all that frequently. I’d suggest heading to the hospital for an exam right away; they'll tell you what the next steps are.

Try not to worry too much, just focus on getting the ball rolling on getting this sorted out...

Thanks. I might just wait for the markers, or maybe head to a private clinic for a Doppler. We'll see. Thanks. 🙂
Hey everyone.
They diagnosed me with a clear cyst on my left ovary—about the size of my fist. I’m headed in soon to get my tumor markers checked. My OB/GYN warned me that this thing could rupture, which would cause bleeding, and that if it does pop, I’ll pass out immediately. My GP also mentioned that if it ruptures, the pain will be intense and I'll experience some vaginal bleeding; apparently, it’s actually "better" if it happens during my period. I get that the gynecologist had to cover her bases legally, but I want to know—has anyone dealt with something similar? Did you end up in the ER?
Thanks 🙂

So, I’m currently scouting out wedding cake toppers—you know, those little plastic bride and groom figurines—and honestly, it blows my mind how much they charge for cheap plastic. Like, $150-$167?! Give me a break. That whole look is getting pretty stale anyway, and it's way too pricey for what it is. So, I decided to just grab some decorative doves from a craft store for maybe $40 total. Then I'll stick two cute little picks in there with some nice paper that says "Happily Ever After". What kind of decor did you guys end up going with?

Ours is gonna look like this http://www.zaslike.com/files/a8cz87inkmy4lf7or5.jpg

The top layer is standard—exactly what everyone expects—but the bottom? It’s all Malaga Punch cream. I didn't want some over-the-top, tacky mess; I wanted something sophisticated. That's why I went with this design.

Are we at our happiest as children? in Psychology ·
John Mendoza13 said:I was sitting there watching some talk show on CNN earlier today, and this guy starts preaching about how the absolute peak of human happiness is found in living purely in the moment. He goes on to claim that children are basically the only ones who actually pull it off, arguing that they’re the happiest beings on the planet because they don't have a single worry in the world under the sun...
Do you guys actually buy that? Personally, I find myself nodding along with his logic; there’s something to be said for the idea that kids are the most content because they aren't weighed down by the baggage of the past or paralyzed by whatever uncertainty the future might throw at them...

Look, even kids daydream about the future or talk about stuff that happened yesterday. That's just basic biology for any living thing, regardless of age. Honestly, I don't buy into this whole "adult" label—you could be a 12-year-old or a 17-year-old and people will still write you off as just some "brat." A person at any age can make "adult" or rational decisions if life throws them a curveball. The only reason I even brought up being an "adult" is because society expects older folks to be all serious and sensible all the time. That's why everyone says kids are the happiest. But listen—a 35, 45, or even a 65-year-old can still be a kid at heart. They can joke around, act goofy, and find joy in the little things just like they did when they were playing in the dirt as toddlers. Some people will tell you you're too old for that or that it's "unbecoming," but that's nonsense. I think anyone can be a child, an adult, and a rebel all at once—it's just that most people are too scared of being judged by society. So yeah, maybe that's why kids get the title, but anyone can choose to be happy through silliness and play, no matter how many birthdays they've had.
Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
I dealt with this exact thing two days ago. 😢 It was the first day my period was late. The pain just went nuclear—my boyfriend said I actually blacked out for a bit. He told me I was acting crazy, scratching at things, grabbing and hitting him because the pain was so intense. I remember some of it, but the blackout part is a blur. All I know is I felt like I was "floating"—totally numb, couldn't feel my hands or even the pain itself—and then suddenly, I was back. That lasted about an hour and a half. Two pills did absolutely nothing for me. I don't have PCOS or any other issues, but I still get hit with these brutal cramps. Next time, I’m heading straight to the ER to have them pump me full of injections. How do you guys handle this? For me, the only thing that works is strict bed rest—literally, I can't move a muscle and I have to take these tiny, shallow breaths. Only then does it ease up for a second. 😢
