Why do concerts always have an encore? in Music ·

...as for me, I absolutely HATE opening acts.😁
Special Effects (and stuff like that) in Movies ·
...oh, right, how did I even forget him? 😁
...but my absolute favorite example of "failed authenticity" has to be that "apology" Harmony Korine made regarding "Julien"... since the whole point of a Dogme-film is that the director has to "declare" every single time they break the rules, Harmony basically wrote something along the lines of: Sevigny (yeah, her again...🙂), the lead actress, wasn't actually pregnant—they just used a pillow. Not that I didn't try to 😁 predobro edit 🙂
EDIT: I forgot to mention one crucial detail—Sevigny was actually Harmony's girlfriend at the time... don't want anyone thinking I'm out here spreading weird rumors 🙂
...any recent Hitchcockian film...silence has never sounded quite this good 😉
Special Effects (and stuff like that) in Movies ·
...it depends... mostly it's just an effect—for some reason people (including the film industry and its actors) still seem "appalled" by actual sex in movies... but if you want something real, genuine & non-fake, go watch "9 Songs" by Michael Winterbott—I'm pretty sure that stuff is 100% genuine 👍 😉
...my homemade chocolate cookies, loaded with everything and anything 😍 (I'd drop the recipe right here if I actually had it on me... but I don't)... man...
...and besides that... Stroopwafels... something that delicious is seriously hard to find 😍
A History of Violence in Movies ·
...comparisons? hmmm...I'm coming up empty here—there's really nothing they have in common...
...but look, A History of Violence...it's a solid movie, some gorgeous scenes, and the violence is beautifully stylized...definitely worth checking out 👍
...just like someone already said... marathon runners 😍
The Beach in Movies ·
..Rachel Brooks63, come on now... what about Guillaume Canet? 😍 And Underworld + Leftfield doing a soundtrack together? Plus, The Beach is gorgeous, tilda is adorable, and everyone in America is talking about it... plus... 🙂
(...and personally, I think the book was way better (that heartbreaking story about the red bicycle 😍), but compared to the other collaboration from the dynamic duo Garland-Boyle, "28 Days Later," The Beach is 👍... or at least it's not a totally terrible movie...)
Truman Capote in Movies ·
😘 thanks for the food for thought—I can't help myself, really, whenever we're talking about Dustin Hoffman, I'm all 😍

...A journalist? Lali Puna, are we talking actual professional here, or just some journalism student (if you don't mind me asking)? 🙂

🤣

...anyway, you "patriotic" officer Jose Chase2 🙂—I just got word from a little birdy, so I guess I'm passing the intel along... Wednesday, unknown, 11:25 PM (if my memory serves me right) — The Son — you absolutely have to watch this, and then you'll have to spend a long, long time explaining what you thought of it to me (assuming you've even seen it yet... and if you have, watch it again... because it is stunning... honestly, it’s pure Anthony Bourdain😍 style)
...as for me? Absolutely nothing 😢

Maria Peterson said:Nenad ??!?! You probably mean Zarkec, right?

...Look, Zarkec usually has his fingers in everything, but not this time—our buddy Nenad actually put some work into this. And if you ask me—not that anyone ever does—he’s actually "doing the right thing," despite all his usual screw-ups.🙂

Maria Peterson said:I watched El Paso yesterday. First off, the movie isn't just Mexican; it's equally an American-Mexican production. It isn't trying to peddle any of that nonsense about how Americans are the sole martyrs of El Paso—you know, those self-righteous, drunken types who think they have a monopoly on knowing the truth.

...But wait, isn't the whole film basically an American-Mexican co-production anyway? The director is a Mexican, the writer is an American—maybe someone from the Slavonia Voice—or something along those lines? 😕

casualotter21 said:I saw this movie on opening night in New York City and it was awesome. I watched it once on video and thought it was great. But now, ten years older and "wiser," I realize the movie is actually total garbage... Honestly, though? I don't care. It's still great.

🤣 🤣 🤣
Headache help! in Health ·
...just a bit of a "panic mode" question here...are there any doctors or medical gurus lurking in this thread...or maybe someone who’s dealt with similar symptoms before?

...lately, I've been dealing with some seriously weird headaches: almost every single day, they're sharp, and it's always just one side of my head and face (specifically the area around my eye), lasting for a few hours...sometimes longer...and when the pain gets really intense, I start feeling nauseous too...
...on top of that, I've noticed my right hand has started shaking—the same side as the headache. It's not like a constant, visible tremor, but it's enough that I actually gave up on eating soup because holding a spoon feels impossible, and I have to be careful not to drop my coffee spoon every now and then...
...I've had headaches in the past (I used to deal with anemia for a while, so the assumption was everything was connected), but never anything like this...I mean, I'm sure it's nothing life-threatening, but it's starting to get pretty annoying...

...is it just me, or does this sound familiar to anyone else?

...thanks in advance 🙂

by the way, have you seen Bubble?

...so, was it actually worth it?
😈 😉 It's just 200 pages I haven't even touched yet 😬
...As for our guy Steven, have I watched him? Not really... when did you even pick that up? 🙂 Honestly, lately my life has been one giant chaotic mess of errands and chores, so I've mostly just been scrolling through Shorts and stuff—it's the only thing that fits into my frantic schedule (sadly 😢)... plus, I’ve fallen into this total Hitchcock-mania phase, so I've just been rewatching his films over and over (finally found Das Schloss—it'll be great practice for my German 😍 )
...But man, I've been reading some absolutely insane double-standard comments about Mr. Arrogance's new film (Winterbottom's take on the King—smart, socially conscious, and he just puts it out on all platforms at once without making a huge fuss! 🙂 )... is the movie actually any good?

...Back to the topic: please, let's not start throwing around "ethnic" commentary until we actually hear from someone who has sat down and watched the damn thing... maybe it's brilliant, maybe it's trash... (*sighs—my roommate, a purebred American woman, drove me absolutely insane an hour ago with her total lack of tolerance, which honestly knows no bounds!!!!*)... but I actually agree with Jose Chase2 on one point (who would've thought? 🙂 )—so much depends on the film's core premise...

...on a side note, I’m actually a little jealous of Julian Fellowes—here I am, staring down 400 pages of study material for a public finance exam tomorrow 😢 while he gets to enjoy *F.C. Barcelona Confidential* this Friday. I might just show up in a Real Madrid jersey 🙂

Jose Chase2 said:I honestly don't get why anyone would watch a Mexican film about Vukovar. You have people from the very country that attacked us lecturing us on our biggest wartime tragedy. It’s terrifying—the stupidity in this country truly knows no bounds.

...well, I don't think it's quite like that... people are interested in the experience—seeing things from the opposing side. That might actually be more important right now than our own perspective, and something we really should value, since it lets us feel the "pulse" of our neighbors during a period where we're naturally moving closer together again (which is an inevitable process, let's be real). Our movies, at least in my view, always seem stuck in one of two modes: either they're loaded with intense nationalism and a massive "victim complex"—which isn't informative at all, just pure ideology—or there's this desperate need to make a "film about the truth, but with reconciliation." If you talk to the younger generations, you'll see that's actually our biggest flaw—we want to move forward, but we don't know how, so we shield ourselves with these flimsy arguments about "understanding" that usually leave both the audience and the filmmakers confused. While having different perspectives is useful for staying informed...
...so, if the movie is what you say it is, I actually think it could be useful...🙂

...but who knows, I'd have to see it first before I pass judgment...🙂
