Quick question in Feedback & Suggestions ·
amberangler99 said:If moderators are supposed to be setting the tone and showing us how to actually act and talk on this forum, isn't it a bit much to expect them to watch their language and expand their vocabulary?

Vocabulary? 😁

Man, look, this isn't the PBS newsroom where you have to worry about accidentally dropping an F-bomb or some other American profanity, or where your vocabulary has to sound like it was written by the writers over at John Doe 35.

(feraltrucker5, you're shaking right now. John Doe)

coppermarlin13 said:Some threads from the PDF section political scene get moved over to the sub-forum near politics, and they don't count posts there. You really gotta check how many of your old posts aren't showing up in the count anymore versus what actually got deleted.

Exactly. That thread you've been posting in lately? It got moved to another part of the forum where the post counts don't even register.

Aha, and here I was thinking you actually had something real to say.

My bad.

What are you even talking about?
placidjackal36 said:What a pointless thread. Morbid, this isn't some ego trip for you. This whole thing feels like watching a session of Congress, if you consider our government—or maybe some even more chaotic state—a valid comparison.
I’m not apologizing to anyone because I actually made an effort to weigh my words. There’s a massive difference between pointing out trends and making sweeping generalizations. I don't do generalizations, and I genuinely put more effort into explaining my logic than the average person here. I never said rural folks are just unrefined savages.
Your signature comes off as pure trolling to me; it’s just sensationalist noise. It's like those old headlines where they claim a mouse was born during a thunderstorm. If I were a public figure, this would be a tabloid headline in a heartbeat. Morbidangel, by that standard, you're acting just like the writers for the New York Post.

Look, everyone, I’m fully aware there are people out there (who unfortunately all brand themselves as "animal lovers") who show up just to mock others with their fanatic "eco-friendly" nonsense, pushing absurd theories about plants feeling pain or claiming meat-eating should be a jailable offense 🤦. But I’m also aware that some people find it hilarious to push back against them with an equal level of fanaticism, and some of those folks aren't joking. Among the cynics, there are those who are dead serious. Honestly, I don't care enough to start a full-blown flame war with them, but am I going to stir the pot between both groups? Absolutely. I refuse to play the "us versus them" game or get stuck in some petty clique mentality. I won't conform. If I ever start conforming, then I'm not myself anymore. I know the consequences, which usually means a lot of people talking trash about me. So be it.

I don't know, I don't have anything special to add. I don't owe anyone an apology because I haven't said anything wrong, nothing malicious, and I certainly didn't insult anyone living in the countryside. And if you all find joy in behaving like a flock of chickens that found a "healthy" hen only to panic and want to kick her out once they decide she's "sick," go right ahead. That says way more about your character than it does about mine.
Non, je ne regrette rien.

I guess I can wrap this whole thing up now.

(honestly, I can't believe what some people spend their time on. 🤦 Like, just straight up insulting folks from the Midwest 🤦)
Complaint about thread closure in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Alright, enough with the drama. This topic doesn't belong on NASA, it’s totally off-base for what this sub is about. Nobody is actually using Science-based arguments here, which is why the thread was locked. If you want to talk about weed and hot dogs, go find another sub that isn't dedicated to Science.
The stigma of mental illness and the constant mocking in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Sarah Wilson95 said:It isn’t exactly a rare occurrence, but I just caught a fresh example in a digital edition of the New York Times—where a troll’s blatant provocation was met with a response along the lines of, "Oh, I see they finally brought high-speed internet to San Francisco"

We often see forum users interacting this way, essentially using sarcasm to signal their disagreement or attempting to land what they think is a "killer comeback" against someone they view as an opponent🤷

The underlying implication is that people residing in psychiatric hospitals are simple-minded, unintelligent, or merely looking to cause trouble, which perpetuates the harmful habit of mocking a population that is already heavily stigmatized by both their illness and the reactions of those around them

Because of this, I truly believe that this kind of forum rhetoric is unacceptable and should be strictly moderated, even if the prejudices, ignorance, and arrogance of the "healthy" population will never change unless they actually realize the weight of their own actions

Yeah, stuff like that definitely needs to be penalized. You got a link for that?

Because most of it was posted just today.

Lock.

So, I figured you guys had finally caught on, but clearly, it’s not that simple—the chat’s been moved, and once it hits a certain number of posts, it’ll be shut down and probably wiped altogether later on.

The Scarleticin ban isn't your concern.

Hannah White2 said:It’s not "drama over the chat."
To you, it's trash, sure, but for me, it's the one spot where people who naturally come to read stuff on Apple can actually find something decent to sink their teeth into.
A forum lives or dies by its new blood. Mark my words. If the chat gets as many views as there are posters active there, then they should just hang out over in Offtopic (wherever that is).
Is this site some kind of non-profit charity, or is there an actual goal to growing the user base and increasing engagement? People show up to skim through PDFs; if there's zero life in the community, they'll just go scroll through Facebook instead. Think about the bottom line for once.

Stop hiding behind vague feelings and show me some actual stats to back up that ridiculous claim. I love numbers—everything else you're saying is just abstract nonsense. Does keeping that chat tucked inside the PDF section actually serve any commercial purpose?

Please, remember—I'm an actual user here.

Look, the chat thing is totally out of bounds here. It doesn't fit our editorial guidelines at all. We only have those chat threads so people don't clutter up the actual useful topics. Plus, from a business standpoint, it makes zero sense. I can't give you any data on that.

Anyway, let's wrap this up. The chat has been moved, and it's staying moved.
Writing on the FBI forum? (Tyndall) in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, I’m not gonna keep rehashing this same old story. The chat moved over to OT and that's the end of it. End of story.

Scarletica totally missed the mark here. Her whole thing on the FBI is just pure trolling—honestly, there isn't a single coherent or logical post in the entire mess.

Also, regarding those subforum chats—it's basically up to the moderators to decide if they stay put or get nuked. It's their call.

Is all this drama really about a few chat threads?

Man.

Look, let’s be real—the chat is basically just clutter by default. It’s useless noise that nobody actually cares about reading unless you're one of the people typing in there. If the Apple mods decided to clear those threads out themselves, then the admin team is clearly backing them up.

Jesse Ortiz71 said:Alright then, thanks for the quick heads-up.

I'm not trying to make a scene or anything, I just don't want my name attached to a thread with that kind of title. As for how the mods run things? That's their business, I'm staying out of it.

Alright, thanks for getting where I'm coming from. Next time, maybe just try using a slightly better title so we don't run into these kinds of headaches.
Quick question/Request in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, if your post gets nuked, the whole thread goes down with it. And honestly? The mod was totally justified in changing the title, even if it’s bugging you.
Aztec, any thoughts? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
The post is clean and organized, just how it ought to be.
Just reach out to the Off-topic mods, shoot one of them a PM or whatever, and see what they have to say about it.
Look, don't try to brush this whole thing off as just some "big joke." Even if it was, it was a pretty damn shitty joke.

Seriously though, I'm telling you again—just don't do stuff like that.
Wait, you seriously think we’re all just idiots here?

You start a thread specifically to go after the mods and admins, and then you actually have the nerve to whine about your post getting nuked?

Just stop doing that already so we don't have to step in with actual disciplinary action.

Fine.

If Miller wants a sponsored thread on the forum, they can just reach out to the marketing department directly.

dustypuma5 said:I don't get it. Like, what's the big deal? I'm just sitting here trying to wrap my head around it, but honestly, I'm lost. What's even the point?

So, why can't we just post on the topic? Like, seriously. You’re allowed to write, you’re supposed to argue your point, back it up with actual facts... and then suddenly everything goes sideways. It doesn't make sense. Just let people speak their minds and actually build an argument. Simple as that.

Look, there are way better, more relevant threads out there for what you guys are actually arguing about, so it’d be smarter to just move the conversation over there. If that organization is looking to run a sponsored thread or whatever, they can just hit me up at... Marketing is such a weird beast, man. Like, everyone thinks they know what it is, but half the people out there are just throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks. It’s not just about flashy ads or some big agency in Manhattan trying to sell you a lifestyle you can't afford. Real marketing? It's just... knowing who you're talking to. Simple, right? But nobody actually does it. They just scream into the void and wonder why nobody's buying. I was reading this thread earlier where dustypuma5 was talking about brand loyalty, and honestly, I get it. People stay loyal because they feel like they belong to something, not because they saw a billboard on the I-95. You gotta build that connection. If you don't have that, you're just burning cash. Just my two cents, though. Most people are too busy chasing trends to realize that the fundamentals haven't changed since forever..

dustypuma5 said:You gotta go there, honestly, just because they’ve got some partial funds sitting in the PZ account. If they don't move, they're gonna end up getting banned. Simple as that.

What, you think you're his lawyer or something? Man, he basically slapped himself in the face by turning PZ into his own personal political soapbox. He got banned for being relentless about it, and now he's stuck without any way to appeal or even comment on the mods' decisions. Case closed.
