Red Hill (2010) in Movies ·
Since this movie just popped up and everyone's talking about how good it is, it’d be a crime to let it fly under the radar. I figured I'd pull it out of the "film with edge" thread for a moment...

"Red Hill" is a modern American West revenge western by Australian revenge western director Patrick Hughes. It's his debut, and some people are saying visually it looks like the perfect mix of No Country for Old Men and The Proposition. Honestly, judging by that killer trailer, I'm inclined to agree. The cast features actors most of us know from other stuff, like Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Steve Bisley (Mad Max), and Tom E. Lewis (The Proposition). Hughes is currently wrapping things up to get it ready for the Berlin International Film Festival. Hopefully, we see it hit international screens shortly after.

PLOT
Officer Shane Cooper moves to the small mountain town of Red Hill with his pregnant wife, hoping for a fresh start for their growing family. but When News of a prison break in The City sends The local law enforcement officers into a panic, Shane's first shift on the job turns into a total nightmare.
enter Jimmy Conway, a convicted killer serving a life sentence, who heads back to this isolated outpost looking for payback. Caught in the crosshairs of a sudden bloodbath, Shane is forced to play vigilante just to make it out alive. This is a tense action/thriller that plays out over a single, brutal day. Packed with explosive action and chilling violence, it's a modern-day western set in the American high country.

Do we actually need The Godfather Part IV? in Movies ·
It’s just unnecessary... honestly. There aren't even any living characters left from the old movies who could actually drive a new story forward or make us care... The Godfather trilogy wraps up Michael Corleone's life story perfectly, and that's that.

Just saw that trailer... man, what a mess. The CGI looks cheap as hell, and I honestly don't think Reynolds can pull this one off.

Either they didn't finish the job, or the 3D is just gonna hide all the flaws.

You swapped out the Green Hornet for the Green Lantern.😁
Even this movie doesn't look all that great.😁
Your Highness (2011) in Movies ·
Danny McBride blew up a few years back with solid turns in movies like "Hot Rod", "Pineapple Express", and "Tropic Thunder". Next year, he’s dropping a big-budget fantasy comedy called "Your Highness," which he co-wrote with Ben Best. It’s being helmed by David Gordon Green, the guy behind "Pineapple Express." The cast is stacked with heavy hitters like James Franco, Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Portman, and of course, Danny McBride.
The US release is set for April 8, 2011.

PS. You might as well watch it just for the gorgeous Natalie Portman in a bikini. 😁

First local review...

http://www.horrorhr.com/rare-exports...mas-tale-2010/

...With a budget around $2 million, this thing looks amazing visually. The scenery is gorgeous, and the whole vibe only gets slightly tripped up by some minor CGI moments. The cast killed it, too—you really feel for these kids dealing with their messy lives and this weird situation involving a mysterious guy with a beard. It starts off slow, and things don't really pick up speed until you're past the halfway mark, but the script is solid enough that I never felt bored. That last half hour? Absolute perfection.
I've sat through plenty of holiday genre flicks, but HorrorHR : “ Rare Exports is definitely setting a new bar.

ruggedfox28 said:Is this basically like a book club? Because if it is, I'm definitely in. 👋

Like, everyone throws out a movie suggestion, we vote on what to watch next week, then we just sit around and talk about it after.

😬

I'm down. Someone drops five picks on day one, we pick one within 24 hours, watch it over the next three days, and then spend the following three days debating it.

...and maybe someone wins a prize at the end, lol. 😁😂😂🤣
The Eagle of the Ninth (2010) in Movies ·
Looks like Neil Marshall isn't the only director diving into Roman history this year. Kevin Macdonald—the guy behind "The Last King of Scotland" and "State of Play"—is also jumping on the bandwagon. This one is an adaptation of The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff, which kicks off her series of nine novels centered on the Roman Legion.
The cast features Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, and Mark Strong. Word is the budget sits around $20 million, and they shot throughout the US and Canada. We're looking at a US release on February 25, 2011, with the rest of the world catching it in March 2011.

Jack Nicholson Giveaway!!! (Oct 25 - 28) in Movies ·
James Harris34 said:Really? Thanks! I honestly don't think it'll take me more than a week to put that quiz together.

Just get everything prepped... but make sure you drop the thread a few days before we kick things off. That way everyone can check out the rules and the prizes ahead of time and know something is actually happening. Also, definitely give the admin (catatonic beaver) a heads-up so they can help shout it out on the other subforums if they have a free minute.👍

James Harris34 said:I'm not entirely sure what the ground rules are here or who’s allowed to host these kinds of trivia challenges, but I’d be super interested in putting one together. I doubt I could pull off something as massive or complex as what we've seen, but I think it would be a blast, especially if we had some killer prizes lined up for the winners. What do you guys think?

Just do it.🙂👍👍

I actually want to compete for once, haha.😁😁

Anyway, quick heads-up on the winners.

I'll be sending out your prizes on Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Got some updates for you...

First up, a pretty solid positive review...

http://www.beyondhollywood.com/rare-...-movie-review/

“Elf” really is one of the very few films to attain this kind of near perfect balance, being hilarious, thrilling, frightening and awe-inspiring all in the same breath. Sadly, the only thing standing in the way of its yuletide world box office domination may be the fact that it is subtitled – though such is its quality and the sheer amount of crazed, exuberant fun that the talented Tim Burton delivers, that it may well be able to overcome even this notoriously difficult hurdle to deserved mass consumption and adoration.

Next, here’s the USA official page, the US poster, and some new stills...

Elf: A Christmas tradition (2010) in Movies ·
I'm pulling this one out of the "underrated" pile because it's getting a ton of buzz lately. Americans and Brits are already gearing up to show it in Christmas cinema settings... and who knows, maybe we'll see it pop up here too eventually.

Anyway...

If you've ever wondered where Santa Claus actually comes from or if he's even real, this movie might have some answers for you. lol. "Elf: A Christmas tradition" is an action-fantasy comedy from French / Swedish co-production director and writer Jalmari Helander. It’s actually based on his short films Rare Exports Inc. from 2003 and The official Rare Exports Inc. Safety Instructions from 2005. Jalmari Helander directed and wrote both of those as well. Judging by the trailers, though, it feels more like a tense, creepy horror flick. The budget is nearly $2 million, and the US premiere is set for December 3rd, 2010.
