Professor John Doe's Hat (2012) in Movies ·
The first reviews aren't anything to write home about. Though, I have to say, this YouTube trailer looks pretty promising.
Just keep in mind that lately, Zdravko Šotra has been churning out some pretty terrible soap operas aimed at local audiences.
Professor John Doe's Hat (2012) in Movies ·
This is actually a new adaptation. In the original version from 1971, Pavle Vujisic played Professor John Doe, and you even included an IMDb link for that old one. 🙂

We'll just have to wait and see what Zdravko Šotra makes of it.

I’m not sure, I have it saved on my hard drive somewhere, so you might actually be right.
By the way, regarding that paper we were discussing—the book does explicitly state who killed Annie. It spends a massive amount of time analyzing all those romantic entanglements and treats love itself as the killer, but at the very end, it finally mentions whose hand it was.

Personally, I think that movie is Jordan's weakest work, though it's still decent. If you haven't seen them yet, I highly recommend checking out "Big and Small" and "The man in the photo." They are both solid thrillers, especially that first one—it’s easily one of my favorite classic American films.

Also, with some of those grainy clips floating around the internet where a few scenes are missing, the original versions are definitely longer, but they probably just weren't preserved.

Look, I'm basically an expert when it comes to cloning ☕

It’s a pretty interesting take on farming, especially since farmsteads out here in the States usually have such tiny barns. But for the sake of this movie, the contents of those sheds are definitely looking sketchy. 😁 They’re probably using some heavy-duty chemicals in there. 😳

I’d give it about a 7. I actually wrote a little something about this film last year...

Nikolaj really should have taken him out. The whole motivation behind certain behaviors being tied to physical appearance was executed perfectly, though. Honestly, toward the end, I was just dying for Nikolaj to finish him off. I can't stand it when a total pro fails to deal with some "amateur." If I were in his shoes, I would've just shot him in the head right there in that wreck.

But hey, it is what it is. Not a bad watch...

The movie was alright, but honestly, there were way too many plot holes for my liking.
Also, that American bathroom had to be the size of a swimming pool, so he basically sank straight into a mountain of crap. 🤣

! Heads up: this reply includes spoilers !

Her brother actually killed her. He just couldn't handle his own possessiveness and refused to accept that she might want someone else in her life. It was all about him not wanting to share. Shortly after that, he takes his own life too.
I can't quite recall what the gypsy said...
The Fifth Element in Movies ·
I caught a screening once, but honestly? It didn't really blow me away.
The Mechanic (2010) in Movies ·
Like pro assassins leaving a trail of fingerprints everywhere, or that final explosion scene...
It’s an absolute blast to watch, truly cinematic! But even for a flick like this, they definitely went overboard with the ridiculousness.

There aren't any scenes you can skip, but man, some of them are just plain stupid 😁
Film directors' press statements in Movies ·
It’s just like how Smith explained the whole point of his incredibly dull film "Days"—the only actual reason that movie exists is because its massive box office success gave him the idea to just recycle the exact same concept for "Two."

So, yeah. It's a series.
John Ford in Movies ·
Samuel Scott54 said:I absolutely loved The Grapes of Wrath. I was totally blown away by John Steinbeck's novel first, and then I was just as surprised by how incredible the movie turned out to be..

To be honest, I'm not usually a huge fan of those old Hollywood classics from directors like Ford, Wilder, or Capra... though I have one big exception: I absolutely adore Hitchcock.

Honestly, how can anyone possibly not love someone like Wilder or Ford? 😳🙂
John Ford in Movies ·
Just signing up here 😁

Anyway, I’m genuinely curious to see how many people end up joining this thread...

If my memory serves me right, Dylan once said, "Americans made the greatest films ever, and John Ford is the strongest"...

He was one of the absolute greats, produced so much work... Back then, man, they were just pumping out movies constantly...
While he's most famous for his Westerns, he tackled plenty of other genres too...

What I really want to know is how many people have actually sat down and watched his films. Personally, I can't exactly brag about having a high number.
Foxes (1969) in Movies ·
Mark Wood79 said:It’s honestly a disgrace that this masterpiece hasn't even been released on Blu-ray yet.

That’s just how they look after the cinematic legends of this country...
It's a total travesty that there isn't even a collection of Vladimir Pogacic's films available, especially since he's easily one of the greatest directors in American cinema history...

Pathetic.
Billy Wilder in Movies ·
Mark Wood79 said:I didn't exactly see this surge coming, but come on guys, don't be so stingy! Only four posts about Billy Wilder? That's it?

You've hit the nail on the head. You said it all!
I’d personally pin this thread to the top of the forum. Let's get some more eyes on Wilder—people really need to see his work! 😁 One of the greatest directors out there... For me, he’s right at the peak of American cinema, and honestly, world cinema too. He's easily in my top 20.
Most of what he captured is absolutely fantastic! Beyond the "must-see" classics you all mentioned, I’d definitely add these to the list:
The Apartment. Truly a masterpiece. Billy Wilder just knew how to capture the grind of the American dream with such bittersweet perfection. It’s smart, it’s sharp, and it hits home every single time. Just brilliant.
Sabrina
Witness for the Prosecution
The Private Life of S. H.
Bruce Willis in Movies ·
Rebecca Ramos said:He’s an absolute action icon, though I’d argue he brings about ten times more style to his roles than Schwarzenegger (if one can even call him an actor) ever could.

He isn't just any actor, though he certainly has that style you mentioned... In fact, he doesn't even need to "act" in a movie; it’s enough just for him to show up and deliver a few lines. For me, it was always: Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and then everyone else...
Agora [2009], Alejandro Amenábar in Movies ·
Alejandro Amenábar is a director who just doesn't miss. He hasn't pulled any punches here—not with any of his characters, period.
The cinematography and production design are absolutely stunning, which isn't surprising given that the budget hit about $70 million. Sure, it’s not perfect, but looking at the big picture, it works beautifully. The movie delivers a very clear message, though I honestly think it could have benefited from more runtime. The subject matter is just too complex to pack into only two hours.
Either way, it's a fantastic film.
The Dollars Trilogy in Movies ·
The Dollars Trilogy is legendary, and I absolutely love these movies, but I’m honestly at a loss for words here...

Westerns were my very first cinematic love; I’ve been hooked on them since I was just a kid. Plus, I've always had this deep-seated fascination with the American West.
If I were ever to put together my own personal top 100 Westerns, Sergio Leone would be right there at the absolute peak, fighting tooth and nail for the top spot.

Chabrol is great. I especially love zvijer morati umrijeti and nevjeran zen. The beautiful Serz is also excellent.
