Pretty much. The first time I ever heard about Valentine's Day was in an English class, just mentioned in a textbook. Between that and maybe International Women's Day, that was about it.
Whatever.
Valentine's Day is coming up... in Music ·
Tina Turner - Total Eclipse of the Heart

Do I know this "eclipse of the heart" thing? Seriously?

Here’s my suggestion for a serious Valentine's Day compilation:

The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs vol. 1
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs vol. 2
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs vol. 3

Serious!?
😂
That would make for a painfully awkward Valentine's Day.
Someone would probably have to peel you off the floor. All that mushiness would turn anyone into pure jelly.

Okay, I'll admit, a few Magnetic Fields tracks are decent.

Papa was a Rodeo 😍

And "Washington DC is paradise to me" is a solid choice (what else?), ...

David Bowie - Absolute Beginners (I absolutely love this one)

Me too. It's great. Bam-bam-paaa.

Anyway, Valentine's Day is over. 👍

If I happen to be feeling particularly low, I might just put on ABC: The Lexicon of Love.

Not a chance. I’m passing on all of them. Unless someone can guarantee me free entry and a chauffeur to drop me right at my doorstep after the show, I might consider it. Just kidding—I wouldn't. But if we're talking about old-school legends that actually merit my time, here is the shortlist:

1. U2
2. R.E.M.
3. Bob Mould/HD (just missed one the other day)

What a lineup.

CDs or Vinyl? Who's actually crazy? in Music ·
coastalpanther11 said:I just don't have the time—most people don't. That’s why a setup using streamers is perfect for me: run a network cable from my PC or go wireless straight into the squeezebox, then an optical cable from the squeezebox to the amp. Just load up a massive hard drive with a million albums and let it rip. Invest in your gear, folks... A high-end turntable, a solid amp, and some killer speakers make all the difference...

The reality is, we don't have the time or the money.
With your permission and a few suggestions, I’ll map out a sample daily routine and how to upgrade the gear accordingly. It's about freedom from choice.

I’ve officially lost it. I’m back to my old habit of blowing way too much money on music gear and physical releases.

Vinyl records have become nothing more than an exotic novelty. They’re overpriced, hard to find, and frankly, a headache to track down. I refuse to pay some random guy on the street more than the standard market value for a second-hand record. Honestly, the ship has sailed on that trend. Even shipping from the States is a total rip-off. Look, I’ll admit it—vinyl is vinyl. It’s just like owning a pair of original All-Star sneakers or something similar; it's a specific vibe, but you shouldn't go broke chasing it. Speedo Swim trunks.

I’ve got this pathetic Technics stereo that’s basically on its deathbed—it sounds absolutely terrible—and to make matters worse, my apartment has this awful, hollow echo.

Retro CDs actually have a really solid, remastered sound quality these days. Plus, they often come packed with extra singles that I never even got a chance to hear—like Television's "Little Johnny Jewel," for instance. You usually get an interesting booklet included, too, and they generally cost way less than... $40 (through established channels).
A complete discography or a full anthology? That’s the dream, isn't it? 😍

Vinyl Records vs. CDs? It’s basically a 1 to 3 ratio if you ask me.

I’ve always had a soft spot for hardcore punk that incorporates some moderate metal elements.
The catch is, if it feels too "generic," I'm out.
As for Grind? It’s just not my thing. Most of it sounds like a muddy, chaotic mess that just hurts my ears.
I prefer that raw, gritty, fast crust sound—think along the lines of *Scum*.
Some of the smaller stuff from Discharge works for me.
That Siege record was also pretty solid.

I’m looking for something with the same level of intensity as these classics:
1. The Crosses
2. Void
3. Negative Approach
4. Black Flag of

Looking at more recent acts, his Hero is goniti Jebga seems like a great blend of styles.

Whatever, I guess I'm just more into the hardcore/punk side of things now.

I’m getting back into Slayer and South America again.

Look, I’ve listened to my fair share of death metal.
But seriously, where is the black metal?
What's the deal here—is there actually a meaningful distinction between them?

What about Carcass? You should really give Swansong or Heartwork—or honestly, just both—a listen. 😍

Well, there’s definitely some potential to be found in the post-*Reign in Blood* era of Blood Slayer. I’m constantly flirting with their discography. Honestly, these days, my biggest thrill comes from digging through the forgotten gems or the stuff everyone else spat out. Those two albums mentioned above are the only ones by Carcass I haven't gotten around to yet.

Let's talk about some musical "genres" I tend to rant about despite them being largely ignored:

Metal

It’s just pure chaos. It makes me want to lose my mind from sheer frustration (if that's even possible). What I'm looking for is more riffs and less polish—something raw, like Apocalypse Now or Planet of the Apes. Give me that gritty, unhinged energy. Just let it rip.

Synth-pop

Now, this is closer to a sound I can actually tolerate, but even then... I’d prefer to stay far away from that ultra-fast, frantic stuff where people are just screaming over beats on a disco floor. No offense to the disco fanatics. Hey, Mainstream, Orange, stormyviper11...

Everyone is invited, obviously.

Thanks Jari, something like that. I might just grab one myself. Do I have more than 90 of them left? Not a chance, I'd say.

1. Does anyone know where I can pick up a storage box with the right dimensions—or something similar—for my vinyl collection? Where should I look and what am I looking for?

I want them within arm's reach (and spinning on the turntable more often), not tucked away in a closet. Every single one of my shelves is too shallow. It’s a total pain.

1. dreamless 😍 😍 😍
2. static 😍 😍
3. tongues 😍

Can we please just get on the same page for once and agree on a single list?
Jawbox is at their absolute best when they’re being total wusses.
A total masterpiece of a non-album single: tongues/ones and zeros.

Where on earth did that miserable J. Robbins disappear to?
Goddammit.

Count me in.
I ended up smashing my front tooth at a pool during some late-night swimming out in Appalachia.
The guy who did it was some local idiot with zero coordination.

Honestly, I thought I’d cracked my entire jaw.

I'll check back in once I hear some Depeche Mode! It’s just ridiculous.

It means nothing to me, oh New York City!

Should I actually believe you?
Fine, whatever, you caught me—I'm in a total anti-rock phase anyway.

The only thing worth praising here is the hit itself.
